Fake Your Death

Chapter 18 - But Even Good Guys Still Get Paid

I touched two of my short fingers onto my cheek. It felt warm and soft.

Do I still love him or am I just naive to the truth?

I miss his warm body against mine as we sheltered from the bittering cold. I miss his sweet lips that pressed softly against my neck at night. Yet, I still hate him. I still hate the pain he has given me and the amounts of times I have been scared out of my mind. He’s here though. Not dead.

“Not dead” I muttered to myself. Gerard Way is the most complicated, indescribable man who makes you re-think your whole life. Stay away from him or he’ll pull you in and never let you go. For me, it too late. I have to follow him now if I am ever going to get an answer. Even if it means being trapped in a car in the middle of the night with a gun strapped to my side. He will make you do things you never wanted to do. I felt a hand latch around my thigh. Slowly I turned my head away from the window to the dimness surrounding the cars inside. Mikey smiled at me as he moved his hand to mine to show he was there. I’ve only just realised how much I was shaking.

We were now somewhere between New York and New Jersey. The emptiness of the roads haunted the back of my mind. I have never been to their childhood house. I have never met their parents. The thought of going into a house that once held a happy family but is now a pile of half broken wood frightened me. Once again my thoughts were interrupted as Gerard coughed from the front seat. His icy eyes glared through the front mirror to us.

“I need to stop somewhere. When I do, neither of you move a bloody inch nor speak a word. If you do, we are all dead. Understand?” he said, raising his voice. The rough crackle of his voice terrified me enough to almost start crying. I looked at Mikey and sunk deep into the rough leather seat. The obscure windowed car stopped suddenly on the side of the street. A large man, hidden by an enormous cloak entered the front seat. He stayed looking forward as Gerard handed him some papers. I watched through the front mirror, trying to catch any signs of what was going on. The strangers piercing eyes suddenly caught my small, helpless eyes through the mirror. Gerard suddenly stopped ruffling through the thick papers as he realised what was happening. He looked petrified as he whispered something as the man kept looking me straight in the eye. The bizarre visitor nodded before turning his eyes back to the front. Gerard put the papers down by the side of him and sped off down the endless road, watching me every now and again.

My eyes sluggishly closed as we turned into, what looked like, an abandoned factory. My whole body woke up to the sound of slamming doors. I stared out the blacken window, trying to figure out what the build looked like. For all I know, it towered over us as though we were ants and it was a young child. Its grand towers stuck out, reaching for hell above Earth. I latched my hand over the cool door handle and attempted to open it. Damn! He locked it.

Mikey sighed as he pulled out one of his many guns. He fiddled with the thick, goldern bullets and followed his fingers around its smooth surface. I pushed my hand down on the gun to his lap. I didn’t want to be the person being shot tonight. I guided my attention to the two figures standing in front of the car. One stood grandly, hiding any signs of emotion. While the other stood slanted, nibbling at their nails. This one was nervous. I looked back at Mikey and guided my finger up to my chapped lips signalling him to be quiet.

“I thought you didn’t tell her” the upright figured said.
“She found me.” The hidden figure laughed to the others response.
“This changes everything you know.”
“I know. What about the other girl?” This voice defiantly belonged to Gerard.
“Forget about her now.”
“She’s only here because she is looking for her. Never mind. What about the money?”
“You’ll still get it. He promised. But it you’ll get less because of this. He won’t be happy” The stranger said, pointing at the car. They both looked our way before hushing their voices.
“I know.”
“If I was you, I would run,” the figured said before walking off. Gerard slammed his fist on the rusty black car. I turned to Mikey. He looked as scared as I was.
What have we gotten ourselves into?
