Fake Your Death
Chapter 12 - I Choose Defeat
“Hi Jade”
I saw everyone’s mouths open as though they were talking but I didn’t hear any noise. There was silence. I stared into his deep hazel eyes which were as beautiful as I remembered. This can’t be true. I snapped out of my intoxicating daydream to reality. I slowly leant down, grabbing my bag and running as fast as I could. Gerard is dead. He is not alive. You saw him in his coffin. The way his hair was the last time I touched it. His pale lifeless face.
I pulled my now ruined shoes off my feet as I ran towards the main road. Everywhere was overcrowded with people going every direction. I put my hands on my head in panic, not knowing where to go. I decided to go down an alley way across the death road of many taxis and buses. By now, rain had started to pour down. Each step I took, it managed to be in a puddle which only made things worse.I slowed down my pace as I made it to the end of the dark alleyway. I was now on a small lane in the middle of London lost. My head snapped to the end of the lane to where some drunk men were laughing their big heads off. If there’s drunk men, then there should be a pub. And sure enough, around the corner stood a Queen Anne pub.
Straight away, I was greeted with loud music and lots of drunk people. Too many drunk people. I pushed my tiny self to the bar and order a large glass of red wine. Instantly I downed the glass down and order the whole bottle. You would as well if you just saw you supposed to be dead husband. While I waited to drink my life away, I glanced around to room to see the many different faces. My eyes suddenly reached a ragged man at the other end of the bar. His hidden eyes were fixed on me which only made me uneasy. I jumped at the sound of the bartender handing me the bottle of wine. This made the mysterious man chuckle as he went in for a sip of his beer. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the tattoo printed on his neck. A scorpion. Within a second, I was off my seat and hugging him. He turned to hug me back.
“It took you that long to realise who I was” he sarcastically said when we pulled away.
“You’ve grown your hair Frank. It looks nice, but the beard, really?” I questioned sitting down next to him.
“What? I thought it looked nice” Frank replied.
“Why are you here Frank?” I asked, “The last I heard of you, you were apparently in New Jersey again.” He sighed and took a big gulp of his beer before answering.
“I was. But I kept getting drunk and she kicked me out. I haven’t seen my kids in 2 months. I now know how you felt when you lost Bandit.” I looked down at the floor at her mention, “So I came looking for you. But when I got to LA, Mikey had told me you had stormed of back to the UK. Now here I am. You’re not the only one Kerrang have been trying to get hold off.”
“Frank, you can’t be here. Something really bad has happened and if this is how you’ve been the last months, then you can’t be here.” He looked at me in a confused way. His eyes darted around the room before he looked back at me.
“Do you want to get out of here then if it’s that bad? I want to know” Frank replied standing up.
“I don’t know.”
“Please Jade. If it’s about him, then I want to know. He’s my best friend.” After a few minutes of him trying to persuade me, I finally gave in and we made it out onto the dark streets of Central London.
“No. This can’t be true!” Frank screamed in panic after I told him what happened in Covent Garden. I walked a few steps before I realised Frank wasn’t following. I turned around to find him collapsed on the floor, rocking himself viciously. Shit, he’s having a panic attack. I ran straight to his side and did my best to calm him down
“It’s all my fault; It’s all my fault; It’s all my fault” he muttered in between rocks.
“It’s not your fault Frank” I replied, trying not to sound confused. I looked down at his face to find tears. I rubbed his back before whispering in his ear about getting somewhere warmer. It took me and hour to convince him to get off the dirty London road and into his hotel room. We slowly made our way towards to haunted looking building at the end of the street which Frank had pointed our earlier as his hotel. I reluctantly made my way in, holding Frank. By now, the sun was being to peek over the first few trees, while the birds began to sing innocent songs. God birds are luckily they don’t have to deal with shit like we do.
“Jade” Frank called from his bed 2 hours later. I had decided to stay with him, just to make sure he was okay.
“What is it sweetie?” I called out, turning off the TV and making my way over. Despite the hotel looking like a murder house on the outside, inside it was beautiful and the rooms look spacious.
“Thank you for looking after me. You can go if you want to” he said, hiding under the covers.
“I can stay. I’m not going anywhere today” I replied, plumping myself next to him. He slowly slid up and smiled at me. Then out of nowhere, he kissed me. Our lips collided and stayed together for a few minute until I remember what had happened only a few hours ago. I pulled off and looked away.
“I can’t Frank. What if what I saw earlier was real and that was him?”
