Cemetery Drive

Frank woke up with an awful pain in his arm. He groaned as he remembered the evening before and rubbed his arm gently. He pulled himself out of bed and looked out his bedroom window. His mum had already left for work, which, thankfully, meant Frank could skip school that day. He didn't really feel like putting up with people that day. He suddenly remembered that Gerard was going to take him to see his dad after school. He sighed and rested his head against the cold window. He thought about what would happen, how Gerard would react. How he would react himself. He suddenly felt nerves rise in his stomach. He didn't feel ready for this but he knew he had to do it.
Gerard looked around his classroom, desperately searching for Frank. He looked at Mikey and shot him a look, Mikey shrugged and carried on with his work. Gerard stared at the blank piece of paper in front of him. He couldn't think of anything but Frank. He was seriously worried about him, although he knew Frank wouldn't do anything silly, he just hated the thought of Frank all alone. He was nervous about meeting Frank's father, mostly because Frank hadn't seen him in ten years. Ten years is a long time, Gerard thought, Frank was only seven. Gerard sighed and pushed his head in hands, he just wanted to be with Frank now.

~Time lapse to the end of school~

Frank was sitting in Gerard's car, directing him on where to go. They had been driving for a few hours now, they were out of Belleville and now heading towards Frank's hometown. Frank couldn't stop shaking and even noticed Gerard shaking a bit.
"J-Just down there," Frank pointed at a road. Gerard squinted at the road name.
"Are you sure? This is the road leading to the cemetery-"
"Yeah, yeah i'm sure," Frank interrupted. Gerard shot Frank a concerned look but followed his instructions. He parked the car and turned to Frank, who just pushed the door open and climbed out. The teacher followed his student through the yard.
"F-Frank?" Gerard tried to stop him, but Frank simply ignored him. He was searching desperately for his dad. His teacher walked close behind him, listening to his student mumble to himself. Frank suddenly stopped, causing Gerard to almost walk into him.
"Dad," Frank whispered to himself as he stepped closer to a grave. Gerard stared at the wording but didn't take any of it in. He watched Frank fall onto his knees in front of it. He knelt next to his student and watched him carefully trace his fingers over the letters.
"Loving father, husband and brother..." Frank choked the words out and felt the rough stone on his fingertips. He gulped, trying desperately not to cry. He gave up and allowed tears to fall freely down his cheeks.
"Frank," Gerard pulled his student into his chest and wrapped his arms tightly around Frank's small body.
"I'm sorry, Frankie, i'm so so sorry," the teacher gently whispered to his student. Frank started to get tired from all the crying and he rested his head onto Gerard's chest, his teacher's heart beat calming him down. He soon fell into a peaceful sleep. Gerard smiled as he realised his student had fallen asleep in his arms. He kissed the top of Frank's head and held him as close to his body as he could. He just wanted to protect Frank from everything bad in the world. He hadn't had it easy, and knowing that his dad was gone made Gerard feel even more for the student. He wished he could make everything ok but he knew he couldn't, but he would try. He would try as hard as he could to make Frank happy.
