Love and Bullets
So Band?
I walked into the back room, which was rather toasty for a bus in the winter. The room itself was also rather nice. The carpet felt soft under my toes, the walls were clean and posters hung neatly, and there was some chairs and couches surrounding a coffe table and TV. There were also a few guitars, some acoustic, some electric and by an amp, and then there was a bass. Gerard saw me admiring the instruments, and chuckled softly at my gaze.
"We like to save all our old instruments, that one right there is Rays first guitar." He said, his hand motioning toward an acoustic wooden guitar.
I smiled at him and nodded, I still had my old guitar on its stand in my room. I always grew very attached to my instruments, they were like my siblings.
"So, do you play?" Gerard asked, flashing a crooked grin. "Your teacher said you were gifted in the music department."
I blushed and looked away for a moment.
"Uh, yeah." I said a little quietly. "Mostly guitars and piano. But my friend and I are percussionists in band..."
"That's wonderful! You and Bob will have something to chat about."
"Yeah." I said, my face still a little red.
There was an awkward silence drifting between us, I could feel it. It made me feel rather uncomfortable and I was desperately searching my scattered mind for something to say. Luckily, Gerard is quicker than me.
"Take a seat." He said, pouting out the numerous chairs.
I sat in a comfy arm chair, Gerard took the end of the couch that was closest to me.
"So what's it like to be touring? In a band, I mean." My voice was uncertain and nervous. At least it was a question I was meaning to ask.
His face brightened up. "Oh, I love it! It's a lot of fun and I really like singing with the guys. It's like an outlet for my feelings, writing the songs. Like I can pour myself out, but since it's in a song, nobody can really know what I'm talking about. Since songs do tend to be a bit hazy."
I cocked my head slightly to the side, and listened with interest. I always thought the songwriters had a special talent. They could make any plain word mean something with their ranging vocals and their facial expressions. I smiled and nodded. I wish I could write lyrics. We talked back and forth about lyrics for a little bit until he began asking my questions. One of them really got me to start talking.
"What about you, Ally?" He asked, leaning forward slightly. "Ever thought of trying to start a band?"
I let the question roll around in my head and shrugged. Sure, I'd thought about it. But I felt like it would be a lot of hard work and suffering to get 'up there'' and maybe all that work wouldn't really be worth it.
"Well, yeah it's crossed a few times." I admitted, running a hand through my brown hair. "But I don't think the band would make it to the top, I don't really know anyone who would want to devote so much of their time practicing."
"Really?" He asked, cocking an eyebrow.
Suddenly, Mike popped up in my mind. How could I have forgotten? "Well Mike's always talking about him and I being in a band together. He'd want to play either base or drums." I chuckled and thought about our long talks about what it would be like. Touring the country, living in a tour bus 70% of our lives, meeting new people....I shook my head. "It would be so much work...." I murmured, my eyes glanced down to the floor.
"Yeah, you're right it would." Gerard nodded, his hand were folded together. "But it's worth a shot."
I shrugged. "I don't think he's serious about it...Maybe it's just wishful thinking." My voice was solemn, but still positive.
He drugged and ran a hand through his black hair. He looked so hot when he did that.
"You never know.." He gave me a crooked grin.
