From The Coffee Shop To...

Off To Work

Riley’s POV*

Fridays are one of my craziest days of the week. Not sure why, I guess it’s cause it’s the end of the week for the workforce or because people try starting their weekends full of life on super speed until it slowly trickles down when Sunday arrives. Being a barista/bartender of a local coffee/bar, weekends are crazy, like whoa.I love where I work though; it’s a local and organic coffee shop.In the morning and afternoon, it’s a coffee/pastry joint and at night it turns into a hip bar place. Weird, I know. It’s the strangest thing but that’s what makes it super unique and I just love it. I also get to meet a lot of different people depending on what shift you have. My shift starts at 6 a.m. so I decide to wake up 5 a.m. to give myself time to wake up and get motivated. I quickly start my coffee machine and turn my television onto vh1, the only time I ever play this channel is this early in the morning. They play all the good old music videos and it gets me in such a good ass mood! The Smiths come on. Score. My day is officially going to be great.“I WOULD GO OUT TONIGHT, BUT I HAVEN’T GOT A STITCH TO WEAR!”I screamed into my hairbrush as I combed my hair. I quickly calmed myself down, realizing that is 5 fucking a.m and normal people are still asleep. Der. I rushed out of my house with my camera and coffee in hand.Probably my two favorite things. I am a coffee addict, hence why I work at a coffee shop. As I pull up to work I notice that I am 15 minutes early. I decided to go ahead and open up shop and get everything going before the day begins and people start arriving. My supervisor, Nick is out of town for the weekend so I’m in charge for basically the entire weekend, which is really great. The Drip has been trying out live music the past few weeks and they’ll play Friday or Saturday, sometimes even both nights.I am freaking loving it; we have a nice stage area that’s elevated so it actually feels like a real stage. I actually like to take pictures of the bands that play.It gives me good practice and a lot of the time the bands pay me for the pictures. But honestly, I’d do it for free, it’s so much fun. Watching shows and taking pictures of them at the same time? Doesn’t get any better than that.
“Hello, could I please have a cappuccino with no whipped cream please?” I quickly snapped back into reality and looked at the man that stood in front of me. He smiled mysteriously and I giggled nervously knowing that he has seen me deep into thought.I rubbed the back of my neck with one hand as he handed me money for his drink.
