Forever Insane
Prologe
Small eight year old Gerard bounced in glee as they had arrived at the new house. Not bothering to unpack his belongings, Gerard bounced into the woods, careless of what his mom might think. He smiled his peppy smile and ran farther into the woods, until his foot had caught on something, causing little Gerard to fall forward. Gerard yelped in pain as the knob of his knee had doven straight into the point of a branch. Only letting out a few tears, Gerard finally got up and decided it was time to head back. That is, until he heard a small voice behind him.
"Hey," the voice greeted. It was small, much like his own. Gerard stood in shock for a second. His mom had always told him not to talk to strangers, but this one sounded rather nice.
"My mom always told me not to talk to strangers." Gerards voice was rather weak; fearful even. He stayed frozen to his spot, debating whether he should run or talk to the kid behind him.
"It's okay," the stranger said. "I'm not strange... I mean, I'm a little weird, but I'm not a stranger." Gerard thought for a moment. The voice sounded small and childlike, much like his, but he could also be a creep with a tiny voice. Gerard finally went with his senses and turned around to face the stranger, which looked to be about the same size as him.
"I'm Geeward," Gerard greeted with a smile.
"Fwank," the fellow boy replied. Gerard lurked his gaze around in attempt to find the piece he had tripped on previously. He finally noticed a small cross looking figure that stod slanted sticking out of the ground. His mom had always told him that the cross stood for Jesus.
"What are you looking at Geeward?" Frank asked, looking around for what Gerard had been looking at. "Ohhh," Frank willowed out when he finally noticed the cross that Gerard's gaze had been glued to. "My cross...," Frank faultered.
"Your what?"
"Nothing. Its nothing."
After a long moment of silence, Gerard suggested they go back to his house and play. Frank blindly agreed and followed Gerard out of the woods and to his house. By the time they had returned, Gerard's mom had been standing at the door with an unaproving gaze.
"Where have you been young man?" She shot, impatiently tapping her foot.
Gerard gave a scared, innocent look. "I'm sowwy mommy. But I found a new fwend!" He took a step aside, revealing Frank standing there and waving.
"W-where is he?" Gerards mom stuttered.
Gerard plastered a questioning look before answering. "Mom he's right there!"
After several more attempts, Gerards mom waa clueless, but figured it was an imaginary friend. She went along with it and let them in the back yard to play as she finished up cleaning the house up. After she had put the dishes in the dish washer, she realized she was all done and walked slowly over to the window to watch Gerard and 'Frank' play. She watched how Gerard would giggle and talk as if getting an answer each time. Ahe didn't quite know the power and affect that imaginary friends had on kids. She's never had one.
Her thoughts had been broken when she felt a hand gently grasp her shoulder.
"Aww look honey," her husband bellowed at the playing Gerard in the back yard. He set baby Mikey on the table and hugged her one handedly around her shoulders.
"Some day baby Mikes will get that big, you know!" Her husband laughed, she returned a fake one. "You okay honey?" He asked sympatheticly.
"Yeah, it's just... Gerard. He has this imaginary friend, but he seems to be more... social with him than most kids would be with an imaginary friend." Gerards dad gave a reassuring glance. "Its okay honey," he reassured. "Every kid has one, some may be a little more into it than others." Gerard's mom gave a quick sideways smile before hugging her husband and returning to her work.
"Frank that was fun!" Gerard giggled.
"Thanks for showing me how to play tag, Geeward! I loved it!"
"Frank, we're going to be best friends forever!"
Forever is a long time.
