Crime Of Passion

Staring Contests

Elly was pleasantly surprised by my venue choice. She got lost in her own world, staring at each painting thoughtfully before going on to the next. I could tell she was enjoying herself, she had this mousy smile pasted on her face the whole time. While she was getting lost in the art, I was getting lost in, well, her. I started to notice the little things she would do, her tiny habits. I saw that if she did something embarrassing she would giggle at herself, and when she was uncomfortable she would pick at her fingernails. Everything she did was so effortless, she didn't give a shit about other peoples opinions.. And I loved that about her.

We settled down and sat on one of the benches in the biggest part of the museum, we were surrounded by tons of paintings and sculptures. It was quite beautiful. "Why do you keep staring at me like that?" I never seemed to notice that I was staring, every time I looked at her I couldn't seem to look away. "Like what?" I played dumb. She raised her eyebrows as she smirked. "Like I'm a piece of meat," she giggled. I searched for words to say, but sure enough I couldn't find any. She shot me that kind smile of hers, her eyes understanding. "Instead of the hardcore staring," her eyes never left mine, "Try taking glances. That's what I do."

"Do people ever notice?"

I questioned curiously. "You haven't noticed yet," her eyes held this playful glimmer that I've never seen before. There were so many things to learn about her, and I wanted to know each and everything by heart. Every scar, every bump and crevice on her body I wanted to be familiar with. She was so captivating and radiant.. It was so easy to get wrapped up in her. But the fact that she stares at me blows my mind. How can someone that bright be interested in a bum like me? I couldn't hide the smile that crept up onto my lips. "You must be a professional," I teased, "I should take notes."

For some reason I got lost in her eyes. They were the palest shade of blue you could think of. The color of ice, you expect them to be cold but they are the complete opposite.. Warm and inviting. She was staring right back into mine, pretty much burning an imaginary whole through me with those icy blues. She tilted her head before half smiling. I felt my cheeks tingle under the blush that was forming on my cheeks, making me look away. I heard her giggle before she nudged me. "I won," she gloated.

"Whatever," I waved it off. That's when I heard her phone vibrate. She pulled it out of her pocket and studied the screen with furrowed brows. She groaned as she shoved it back in her pocket. "Shit," she mumbled before standing up. For some reason I grabbed her hand, not wanting her to leave. "What's wrong?" I said, noticing that her cheeks are now a light shade of pink. "We've been here for two and a half hours," she sighed, "And my brother was supposed to pick me up from school. He's currently flipping out." I huffed at the news. "I could always take you home," I offered.

"You're offering me a ride?"

I simply nodded. "Well," she sighed, "I couldn't refuse." She smiled a small smile before looking down at our hands. I nervously let go and let her grab her bag. "Sorry," she just shook her head at me, that same smile still lingering on her lips. We headed outside to the car, walking silently through the museum. "Do you live with your brother?" I changed the subject, asking curiously. She nodded her head. "He's letting me stay with him until I get my degree," she sounded peeved. I wonder why.. "At least you don't live with your parents," I spoke sarcastically. We approached the car finally, setting our stuff inside before climbing in and buckling up. "I'd much rather live with my parents," she took a cigarette out of her bag, "Trust me." I started the car.

"Is he really that bad?" I asked, watching her smoke hungrily. "He's a jackass," she laughed, "Probably the most judgmental human being on the planet." I didn't understand, but I took her word for it. If she says he's a dick, then he probably is one. I shook my head, not moving my eyes from the road. "Where am I taking you?" She blew smoke all around the car. You don't know what hot is until you meet a girl like her who smokes. "The Dunes apartment complex," she spoke in a monotone voice. My old friend Frank was living there last time I saw him, I wonder if he's still staying there.

The rest of the car ride was pretty quiet. There wasn't much to talk about, we covered everything in the museum. I know that she loves to sculpt, she says she enjoys transforming something to bland into something extraordinary. I know that she doesn't watch much television, that she prefers a good book over a movie. I also know that she writes poetry on her free time. I enjoyed getting to know her today, but it also scared me. I was getting close to someone I honestly didn't know, she was a stranger in a sense. I didn't know what she was capable of.. Emotionally. She could turn out to be my undoing, and that frightened me.

I pulled up in front of the apartment complex. It was a small one, only two floors. But the rooms were nice size. It's the perfect place to live while you study and take college courses. She unbuckled and grabbed her bag, opening the door before stepping out. "Do you need me to walk you in?" I was hoping she would say yes. "You don't need to," she waved the idea off, "I'm a big girl." I rolled my eyes. "I insist," I said as I got out of the car. I walked around the car and stopped when I was right beside her. "You're so nice it's nauseating," she shoved me playfully.

She turned swiftly on her heal and strutted into the building. We went up one flight of stairs and down a narrow hallway before stopping in front of one of the many grey apartment doors. She messed with her keys until she found her house one, sticking it into the knob and unlocking it. She cracked the door and looked in silently. She glanced back at me before cracking her cunning little grin. "I would invite you inside but captain douche pants is asleep on the couch," she snorted. I just chuckled, trying to keep what was left of my cool. I was dying to pull her close to me, to whisper sweet things in her ear. But I couldn't, she probably wasn't up for a stupid collage romance.

I stood there awkwardly with my hands in my jacket pockets. I didn't know what to say, what to do. I was back in my uncomfortable groove. "That's okay," I mumbled as I scratched the back of my head. "I'll see you soon, Gerard." She fought off another smile. God, the way she said my name. I wanted her to say it again. Over and over. "See you," I managed to say before she slipped inside and closed the door. I rubbed my face with my hands, trying to grasp what just happened. I had just spent the day with the girl of my dreams.

When I got home I settled down in the living room and watched movies with Mikey. He was starting to act like his normal self again, talking to me about school and comics. I would be ecstatic, but I was distracted by something. Someone. "Gerard," Mikey waved his hand in front of my face, "Now you're acting weird." I shook my head. "I'm fine, dude." He rolled his eyes then continued on with his story about how him and his friend Bob almost got suspended today. I pretended to be interested, nodding my head whenever he shot me a glance. I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I excitedly dug it out, turning it on eagerly.

I had fun today.

I grinned. She was texting me.. Elly, texting me. Mikey furrowed his brow at me. "Why are you smiling?" I wiped the smile off my face before he got too weirded out. "Nothing," he rolled his eyes. "Who's texting you?" I gave him a confused look. "A friend," I spoke in an annoyed tone. "Yeah right," Mikey punched my shoulder. I pushed him and then returned to tending to my messages.

I do understand how it is, being busy and all or just lost the willpower to continue. But this story is so good and Gerard's obsession with Elly is cuuuute.
