Vampires Will Never Hurt You

The Only Hope for Me is You

It was New Year's eve as well as Bob's twenty fifth birthday, and I was in the passenger seat of Tina's car on our way to the liquor store to pick up some booze for tonight's party at Gerard's. I was skipping song after song on my iPod which was plugged into the lighter of Tina's car, trying to find the perfect song. Finally the single guitar underneath Jeremy McKinnon's voice of A Day To Remember's, 'I'm Made of Wax, Larry, What are You Made of?' filled the car as Tina and I started banging our heads to the beat. Both laughing, we continued to listen to the song and I looked out the window with a huge smile on my face. I felt a cold hand on my right shoulder and shuddered, looking over my left shoulder towards Frank and Ray sitting in the back seat.

Ray's afro was bobbing to the beat of the music as he concentrated on his phone, occasionally tapping the side of the screen with his right index finger impatiently. He was obsessed with the new scrabble app he had downloaded. He looked up at me thoughtfully and smiled before showing his screen to Frank. Frank analysed the screen then pointed and shouted "SCORED, 20 points," over the music. Ray smiled and nodded, bringing his phone back in front of him. I turned my gaze to Frank who looked as handsome and pale as ever. He had his big white sunglasses resting on his head as his almost black eyes glistened in the bright winter sun while he smiled his infamous cheesy grin.

It had been a little less than a month since Frank had revealed his secret to the group. Everyone was weirdly okay with it- well, for the most part. Mikey, being the huge supernatural buff he is, embraced it with a simple shrug, basically acting like nothing had ever happened. Ray and Tina were a little freaked out and sceptical at first- lots of weird glances, but accepted it fairly quickly. Bob on the other hand still shudders and jumps every time Frank shows up, but moves on rather quickly. I like to think of it as a child who always forgets the ending of a movie every single time they watch it, but then suddenly remembers how it ends.

We pulled into the liquor store parking lot and all got out of the car. Once we were inside, we split up, going our own directions. Frank walked up behind me, wrapping his cold right arm around my waist as I walked towards the ciders. I shivered a little as he chuckled, resting his chin on my shoulder. I reached towards the shelf in front of me, grabbing six cans of Somersby apple cider. He let go of my waist and held the little red basket out in front of him so I could put my cans inside. I linked my left index finger inside one of his belt loops and followed as he led the way towards the beer.

"Can vampires even get drunk?" I asked. Frank chuckled as he reached for a six pack of Rickard's Red.
"Nope," he replied, placing it in the basket next to the Somersby. "Just helps me fit in with you guys," he laughed, his cheesy grin on his face.
"Can you taste beer?" He chuckled again as he grabbed my hand and began leading the way towards the vodka where Ray and Tina were standing.
"Yup. Tastes as good as I remember," he smiled.

Ray was holding a bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum in his hands, talking to someone on the phone while Tina was still analysing the shelf of Vodka. She kind of reminded me of a kid in a candy store, unable to decide what she wanted. As we got closer, we heard Ray say 'see yeah in a bit, Gee,' as he hung up his phone and nodded at us.

"Not being able to get drunk doesn't sound like fun," I laughed, turning back to Frank.
"Sure it is, especially when I get to see everyone's faces when I trump all of you guys in a drinking contest," he grinned.
"Unfair advantage," Ray snorted.

The four of us walked up to the cash register and paid for our liquor and got back into the car to head to Gee's.

Later that night. We were all in the living room of Gerard's bungalow, playing Rock Band. Bob was banging away on the drums, missing almost every single note (the birthday boy had a couple too many birthday shots), Mikey was on the bass, Gerard screaming into the plastic mic and Frank strumming away on the plastic guitar, hitting every note the game threw at him with ease. I always loved when Frank played the guitar- whether it was one of the plastic ones from Rock Band or Guitar Hero or his beautiful Epiphone Elitist Les Paul with an Alpine White finish and 'PANSY' spelled out in sparkly stickers. He always looked so concentrated, so involved with the music.

"GREEN! YELLOW-RED! GREEN! GREEN! BLUE! ORANGE!" Frank shouted random colours to screw up Mikey and Bob.
"Damn it, Frank!" Bob laughed.
"And to think Bob, you want to be the drummer of our future band," Ray scoffed, watching Frank's fingers.
"I'm great at the drums! Just not when I'm plastered and Shit Head over there is calling random colors to throw me off!" Bob shouted and slurred, pointing his drum stick towards Frank and missing all the oncoming notes.
"PAY ATTENTION, BOB!" Tina, Gerard, Ray and myself all shouted in unison.
"OKAY!" He laughed, turning back to the TV screen.

After another two hours of taking turns on Rock Band, Bob has passed out on the couch, snoring. We all said our good night's and went to our rooms or sleeping bags. Frank grabbed me by the hand as he led me down the hallway towards the room I slept in on Halloween. Closing the door behind us, I slid off my sweater and tossed it onto the floor next to the bed. Frank pulled the covers back allowing me to crawl into bed, pulling them up to my neck. His lips met mine, leaving a cold and tingling sensation when he pulled away. He walked around the bed, crawling into the empty spot next to me, placing his hands underneath my shirt against my back. I gasped and squirmed, pushing myself away from him as he snorted.

"Okay, okay I'm sorry sugar," he apologized in a cool, seductive voice. The voice he used only in the privacy of the two of us; the voice that turned me on.
"You do that everytime!" I pouted.

He chuckled and pulled me close. I closed my eyes as his cold finger swept against my left cheek as he brushed my hair behind my ear. I had gotten used to his cold skin from sleeping next to him every night and waking up to his perfect face every morning.

"Goodnight Sugar," he whispered into the darkness. "Goodnight Frank," I whispered back.

I closed my eyes and soon enough, I found myself standing in a familiar room with stone walls and blood red curtains.
