In The Mourning
Part Three
I did not ask Rebecca to elaborate further about Frank because I was already too tired last night. I just drifted until I fell asleep.
I woke up pretty early for a Sunday. Usually, before Rebecca got sick, no one would be home. Daddy will be out playing golf with his friends and mummy will go to charity events with her events but today, everyone was in the kitchen, except mummy.
"Where's mummy?", I asked daddy."
"Just finished doing yoga or pilates or whatever thing that costs a lot of money. She will be in soon"
Rebecca looked extra tired today but I guess all that partying last night made her skin looked pale.
Mummy joined us not long after that and she kept teasing Rebecca about drooling over Gerard Way. Ever since Rebecca got sick, our family's bond became strong. Mummy and daddy talked more and I was home more. I guess Rebecca got us closer.
While we were eating and teasing, my phone rang.
"No business calls", daddy said while looking at me.
"No, I have no idea who's calling", it's true, it was unknown number. So I ignored the call.
"It could be Frank", Rebecca said.
"Why would he- DID YOU GIVE HIM MY NUMBER?", I could feel my cheeks were turning pink.
"Who is Frank?", mummy finally asked.
"The heavy tattooed guy from my party last night, mummy. He had her eyes on Blair last night but Blair being Blair, always have to play hard to get", Rebecca teased.
"Tattoos? Absolutely not but when was the last time you have a boyfriend?", mummy turned her attention to me.
"I don't know, a year..", I shrugged.
"You are twenty one now, Blair. You should take relationship seriously"
I groaned before letting out a heavy sigh. Daddy and Rebecca knew I hated this conversation, especially if I had to have it with mummy. She was always pushing me to date Duke, her bestfriend's son.
"Just leave her relationship business to herself. She is still young and besides, she in her first year as a medical student. You should try and relax a bit, Martha", daddy replied cooly.
Mummy knew daddy would take my side so she brushed his words off and continued eating. Then my phone vibrated, a message came in.
'Hey, this is Frank. I called you just now. I think I left my powerbank in the changing room? Let me know if you find it xo.'
"Well whddya know, Frank called just now but he asked me to check the changing room for his powerbank", I told Rebecca
"You sound upset", Rebecca teased.
I let out another groaned and dragged Rebecca to the venue to find the powerbank myself. After half an hour, we found the powerbank and I texted Frank, telling him that I found it. He replied it straight away saying that he will see me in 10 minutes.
"Mummy would freak if she finds out that you are seeing him", Rebecca joked.
"She wouldn't because I am only here to give him back his stuff and speaking of mummy... I don't think she approved any of my ex-boyfriends, except for Jerry Baldwin's son."
"Oh, I remember. The Starbucks' founder son. Well, he was wealthy alright"
"You know mummy. Her perfect life, her perfect husband. The only thing that did not come out perfect was me but she loves you!"
Rebecca laughed and we were interrupted by a hello. It was Frank.
He wore a red t-shirt and faded gray jeans to match his gray sneakers. He gave us a warm smile before coming to us.
"I found your charger. It must be precious until you had to come back to get it", I laughed.
Frank nodded, "You guys slept well last night?"
"Yes, we did. So are you guys leaving New York soon?", I asked. Rebecca wandered elsewhere, I guess she wanted to give us some privacy.
"Not so soon. Gerard wanted to visit his friends before leaving but we only have three days here. Will be leaving on Tuesday morning"
"Have you had your breakfast, Blair?", he asked while fiddling with his fingers.
"Yes, before I came here. Have you?"
He shook his head and there was a long pause. It was beginning to feel awkward. I did not know what Frank wants. I was feeling uneasy with this long pause and then I invited him for brunch with Rebecca at her favorite cafe.
Rebecca was grinning the whole time during brunch. It helped to release mine and Frank's awkward tension and it was nice of him to include Rebecca in our conversation so that she wouldn't feel left out.
"So, will I be seeing you again?", Frank shyly asked.
I was taken back by his question and before I could answer, Rebecca happily said yes.
"I will see you for dinner tonight, if you don't mind?", Frank asked again.
I looked at Rebecca and said, "I don't know.. I promised Rebecca that I would be bringing her to the movi-"
Rebecca cut me off and said, "Nonsense, I said you could send me and my friends to the movies".
"So, 8 sounds good?", Frank gave me a smirk and I just nodded.
I am sure mummy would love this.
