You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison

They All Cheat At Cards, And The Checkers Are Lost (1)

Kellin POV

It was just another day in the life, you know?

I was driving my black Chevy down the interstate, Katelynne in the passenger seat with a bag of McDonalds in her lap. She was engorging herself with the french fries, saying how much she loved them, then complaining how they weren’t crispy enough for her liking, then back to loving them all in the same thirty seconds. She rolled down the window, enjoying the wind smashing her face at seventy miles an hour. She grabbed a fistful of fries and threw them through the window, and then begged me to turn around so she could retrieve them. She was a crazy one, under the influence. She loved car rides while she was on her shit, and I was more than happy to comply. If I didn’t, she would go on her own. I almost lost her the last time that happened.

I drove around the neighborhood for a while, wasting gas as she gawked at the boring scenery around her. There wasn’t much- a bunch of bland houses lined up single-file in two rows, a few trees, bushes, the stereotypical shit. What I wouldn’t give to see what she saw. I never used what she did, if she didn’t have someone to look after her who knows what would happen. I’ve heard the rumors; all the swirly colors, the bright neon hallucinations- it all seemed to be true, at least with Katelynne. As much as I knew how much she was destroying her body- she looked so happy, so upbeat while she was doing it. She never failed to surprise me every time she took another trip, or another hit.

“Mm- babe!” She spoke with a mouthful of chicken nuggets. “Lindsay’s coming over with her boo, you got their food too, right?” She questioned innocently, looking at me with her big puppy-dog eyes.

“I didn’t know they were coming over, we didn’t get them anything.” I chuckled at her tone of voice.

“But baaaaaaaaabe, now we gotta turn around and go get them some!” She whined.

“We’ve got some chicken in the freezer, I’ll make some when we get home, okay?”

“Okay!” She chirped up, giggling relentlessly and stuffing her face with another handful of fries. Of course I wasn’t going to make them chicken nuggets- it was just to keep her happy. She’ll forget about it in a few seconds, anyways.

I turned the car into an empty lot, turning around to get back to our street. It didn’t take long to turn into our driveway. A beat-up red Corvette was parked atrociously in out driveway, but there was just enough room to sneak my Chevy through. Our beige house stared back at us as we exited the car, Katelynne grabbing her food and racing to the white front door. She flawlessly opened it and barged right in. I could’ve sworn I locked the door on the way out. Maybe Katelynne gave Lindsay a key or something. I’ll have to ask her about it tomorrow.

I locked the car doors with a click of my keys and made my way through the door. I turned into the kitchen, tossing my keys into a red woven basket next to the toaster oven. I heard laughter coming from the living room and decided to join the group.

Lindsay and Katelynne were laid back on the red leather couch, staring at the ceiling and into oblivion. Gerard sat in the black recliner, a can of Miller Lite in his right hand and a picture of Copeland in his left. He twisted his head and spotted me.

“Hey, Kellin! Come on and join the party! Hope you don’t mind, I snagged a beer from your fridge.” His voice wasn’t slurred, for once. At least not now.

“Not at all-“

“God, you’re so lucky. Copeland is such a cute little fuck- she looks exactly like you, you know. Where is the little shit, I wanna say hi.” He slowly started to shift from the recliner, tucking his shaggy black hair behind his ear.

“Oh! Um. She-She’s at the sitters. I dropped her off this morning.” I quickly stated, stumbling on my words a bit.

“Hmph, damn shame.” The girls had begun to giggle nonstop at God knows what. I walked over and began to pick up the remnants of the McDonald’s that had made its way from the coffee table to the floor.

Through all the giggles and the TV blasting South Park, I heard a calm rapping at our door. My head perked up as I turned the TV to mute.

“Gerard.” I tossed a can sleeve in his direction. “Hide the beer. Lindsay, Katelynne- can you two TRY to act sober? If it’s ACS again.. We can’t fuck this up.”

“Aye Aye, Captain!” Katelynne giggled, trying to collect herself.

I quickly shoved the rest of the fast food in the garbage and took a few deep breaths. I can do this.

I made my way calmly towards the door, rising to my toes to look through the peep-hole. I watched as nothing stared back at me; I only saw black. That only meant one thing. Fuck my life.

I raced back to the living room, shaking Katelynne in a state of panic and fear.

“Did you pay?!”

“Hmm…?” She slurred, her eyes fluttered almost majestically, without a care in the world. More knocking commenced from the other room.

“I said did you fucking.. Damn it Katelynne!” I let go of her, making my way back to the door. I clicked back the lock, opening the door slightly. Two buff, white men stared back at me, one with tattoos all up and down his arms, the other with none that I could find. They both wore jeans and wife beaters, all the more terrifying.

“H-Hey guys.” I gulped, staring at the men. They pushed the door open farther, making me stumble backwards and into the window behind the door. They both marched to the living room, scoping the place out. I followed them around the corner.

“Katelynne Quinn?” The tatted one questioned harshly.

“Mmhm.” She smiled sweetly at them, unaware of the situation.

“Boss wants to see you. Let’s go.” Fuck.

“Wait no please!” I pleaded as he threw her limp body over his shoulder, her long black hair cascading over his shoulders.

“Kellin? Kellin where are they taking me?” She thrashed in his arms. “Let me go! Baby!” She screeched as they walked out the door, ignoring Lindsay’s questions and my begging.

“Fuck!” I growled, punching a hole in the wall. My hand pulsated, yet I felt no pain. “You two need to go. Now.”

WAKE UP.

“But what about-“ Gerard interjected.

“Now!” I stared into his own eyes, challenging him to utter another word. His gaze softened. Grabbing Lindsay’s hand, they made their way out the back door.

Fuck fuck fuck. My world was spinning. I couldn’t concentrate on anything. Everything was crumbling around me.

I raced upstairs to our room, quickly rotating the dial of our rusted safe, 04-28-13. I jerked the damn thing open and quickly started throwing stacks of bills into my bag.

KELLIN

Throwing the bag over my shoulder, I quietly stepped into Copeland’s room. My beautiful baby girl was standing in her crib, staring aimlessly at her blue and pink butterfly mobile. She noticed my in the doorway, her face lighting up the entire room. She lifted her tiny arms up, begging to be held.

“Hey, buddy.” I picked her up and kissed her forehead. “Mommy and Daddy have to go on a little trip, so you’re gonna go have fun with Uncle Justin for a while, okay? And if you ask nicely, maybe he’ll play that guitar for you that you love so much, hm?” She giggled as I raised her above my head multiple times, clapping her hands together in joy.

“Yeah, that’s right baby girl.” I gave her one last kiss and carried her with me down the stairs, bursting through the door and rushing towards my Chevy. I buckled her into her car seat- double checking to see every was fastened and ruffled her hair playfully. I put her little pink bunny in her lap and shut the door. I hopped into the driver seat and revved the engine.

KELLIN STOP

I forced my eyes open, finally relieving myself from my awful nightmare, the same one that haunts my dreams night after night. Wiping droplets of cold sweat from my face, I made myself relax back into my mattress.

Copeland… Oh my baby girl, what I wouldn’t do to see you again.

Notes

Heres some Kellin/Gerard background. I'll probably do another Kellin next, I'd put it here now but it'd make the chapter too long, so here's another two-parter I guess.

So I wanna thank you guys so fucking much for your idea's, really. I couldn't have done this one without you. It's been so hard lately, so much shit is going on and I just hate dealing with it all.
You guys mean more to me than you will ever know, and I just wanna say how grateful I am to have you by my side. Shit, this whole story is for you guys.
Keep running, my lovely Killjoys.
