Who Are You?

Chapter 6

I’d been home from the hospital for two weeks and I was bored. I couldn’t do anything except watch TV. I couldn’t even hold a freaking book. Let me tell you, there is nothing on TV ever. It was Monday afternoon and I heard the slam of the door from Gerard and Frank coming home from school. I was going to ask and I wouldn’t stop until they say yes.
“Gee Bee.” Gerard dumped his bag and walked in taking a seat on the armrest next to my head.
“What’s up MikeyWay?”
“Can I go to school tomorrow?”
“Do you think you’re ready? This isn’t a case of just showing up and catching up on a couple of weeks worth of work. You have no memory of anything you’ve done in high school. But it’s your decision. You know what’s best for you.”
“I want to at least try Gee Bee. I might remember stuff.”
“Fine, but before school you’re going to have to talk to Principle Kleine. I’m also going to have to go back to the house to get your uniform.” I looked down and only just noticed the navy blue and red tie and blazer with the grey slack and white button down my brother was wearing.
“How come I never noticed you wearing a uniform before right this second?” He laughed.
“I usually get changed straight when I get home from school. You should see Franks. It’s way too big on him.” I giggled slightly. “How are you feeling today?”
“Sore and incredibly bored. There’s never anything good on TV.”
“Trust me, in a few days, you’ll miss this.” I smiled and Gerard went to get changed.

Next day.

Beep beep beep
I woke up to the alarm screeching in my ear. I groaned and rolled over, momentarily forgetting about my still quite painful torso and screaming in pain before jerking onto my back again. I sat up lightly, put on my glasses and took the pain killers I had set on the table before I went to sleep. I waited for the pain to die down before throwing a teddy bear at my brother to wake him up.
“Iuhrm uhrp.” He mumbled from under his pillow. I got up and went to the ensuite bathroom, doing my business and washing my face and hands, having had a shower last night. I hobbled back out into the bedroom and collapsed into Gerard’s bed.
“What?”
“Get up Gee Bee. I need help getting ready. Please.” I said giving him my best puppy dog look. He sighed before getting up and heading to the bathroom. It took half an hour but we were both dressed and looking reasonable. We slowly made our way into the kitchen and grabbed a bowl of cereal (letting mine turn to a yucky mush so I could eat it) and a cup of coffee each and making one for Frank who practically threw himself into the kitchen. I held in a laugh at his blazer which was huge on him and made him look like a little kid. No words were said but in no time at all we were in the car on the way to school.
“How do Ray and Bob get to school?”
“Bob has a car and will usually pick up Ray.” Frank told me. Gerard was concentrating way too much. He was tense and it made me feel uneasy.
“Gee Bee, relax. You’re worrying me.” He sighed and relaxed slightly.
“I’m sorry Mikey. I’m just nervous. You were in a car accident remember.”
“No I don’t remember. That’s the fucking problem isn’t it?” I shouted and he flinched at the raised volume. “I’m sorry Gee. It just sucks. I hate not being able to remember anything. What are the teachers going to say? What are the student’s going to say?”
“Nothing. They’re not going to say anything. Principle Kleine held an assembly last week and told people what happened. He said to just treat you normally, just slightly more delicately.”
“Kay. Love you Gee Bee.”
“Love you too baby brother.”
“I love you both.” Frank said from the back seat and we smiled at him. I was suddenly less nervous. It felt like, everything was going to be ok.

MY EXAMS ARE OVER... but I have to go back and start next year on Monday :(
