Be The Flame In The House Of Cards
Can I Play With Madness
I remember the look in Gerard's eyes when he asked me to hang out with him after my shift, and how excited he seemed. It must be hard, living in an asylum with people who just discuss their problems and take medications for the rest of their lives. He didn't seem that insane, he just looked like he needed a friend. I mean, isn't that why he had "Tony"? Because, he didn't have a friend?
Untying my apron, I made my way out the door and onto the open sidewalk, where my cold face met the even colder city air. The Rosewater Academy, the crazy house of Jersey, had met my eyes as a factory. It was built from dark red and burgundy bricks, and had five large chimneys that looked more like exhaust holes in an engine. It had no...make that one tiny window in the center of the structure. But it was closed shut, and very tight. No curtains resided, and the window itself was painted black to conceal what horror was inside.
I crossed my fingers, to hope that wasn't Gerard's room.
Stepping inside, warmth gently rushed to me, and I smiled in delight. A lady welcomed me sweetly, while holding a girl by the wrist.
"Hello sir. What brings you here?" She asked, and the girl she held unto frowned. The girl seemed to be my age, with shoulder length orange hair and beautiful brownish green eyes.
"Oh I'm here to see Gerard Way?"
The girl hissed lowly. "I need another book, get me another fucking book!"
"I'm sorry, she has bibliomania," the lady excused, and spoke to the girl. "Hayley, you read twenty one yesterday." Hayley cursed under her breath.
The lady turned to me. "Let me get this girl a book, then we'll talk." She gave Hayley The Watchmen, to which the girl hopped in glee.
After Hayley was settled, the woman and I walked the bleak tile halls, sparking a conversation. "Do you know anything about Gerard?" I asked.
"He's got a history, dark secrets. Ones that not even the strongest 'keys' can open," she explained vividly. "He's fifty shades of shit, or so he calls himself."
I gulped. "So, what is his mental illness?"
"Look kiddo," she almost laughed, when saying this. It offended me. "That kid's name is real famous around here. He has so much wrong with him, I would die of old age naming them." She handed me a small buzzer. "Press this if he's unstable."
The door stared down at me. Oh shit. Room 217 (A/N it's the room # for 'the shining')
Doesn't that sound like a walk in the park.
