Be The Flame In The House Of Cards
At Heart
The night passed and before I knew it, I was back in the academy, right beside Gerard. His beautiful eyes examined me before he smiled a wide smile. "You came again?"
I nodded. "I should have been driving to school but people make fun of me in school, I'd rather be with people who enjoy my company." Gerard frowned at my comment, and moved his hand towards mine. Gripping it tightly, he said not to worry. I nodded, changing the subject. "Um, so do you want to invite your friends?"
"Let's have some time alone first," he replied nervously. "Yes?"
"Um okay." Today wasn't my day, really. I had just been told my parents would be on business trips for a while, getting as much extra cash as they could. And I'd be almost alone. For the time being, I only had Gerard. He would make me laugh, and smile, and maybe one day he'll make me cry. He didn't judge me or gossip about me or anything. Even Tony was beginning to feel like a cousin or something.
Gerard's friends came knocking at his door, and I got up to answer it. Hayley had her books tightly held in her arms, basically cradling them. "Hey Frank."
Mitch came following afterwards, a huge grin on his face. "Guess you like us crazy folk, huh?" I laughed. "Hey, you guys aren't crazy." He rolled his eyes. "Whatever you say, Frank"
Austin and Billie had brought two other boys with them. One of them introduced themselves as Kellin Quinn, and the other one said his name was Oliver Sykes, but he preferred to be called Oli. Oli had an acoustic guitar in his hand.
"Guess the alone time's over..." Gerard sighed.
"Don't worry about it, we can be alone later."
Kellin kept is arms crossed, sitting in the corner of the room. I asked Austin about it.
"I-I f-f-forg-got what i-it's c-c-called, b-but h-h-he t-think-ks h-he's s-sick w-w-with a-a-a v-virus."
Oli and Mitch started to talk to each other, and Mitch had told him about me.
"You made him speak?" he asked, astonished with a British accent.
"Well, I guess so."
Oliver smiled. "Can't wait to hear him sing. Do you sing or play instruments?"
"Yeah, and I play guitar." He laughed, handing me the guitar. "Sweet!"
I sat down to play. I started to play Metallica, but Gerard stopped me.
"Um, I wrote a song yesterday. Can you play it for me, i'll sing."
Gerard had written legit notes and scales on the paper he handed me. It was easy, and I started to play as he sang.
"You don’t know a thing about this life
And we are up for everything it takes to prove we’re not the same as them
And we will wear our masks again out after dark
‘Cause we are up for everything it takes and we are not the same
‘Cause we are not afraid
And we are not ashamed
And if you save my life
I’ll be the one who drives you home tonight
And if I ever let you down
I’ll be the one who drives you home tonight
Remember, once you walked this kind of life
Quietly I’ll sleep behind the wheel
And passing every face you see the first time
Singing every piece as you walk by Proving that with all of my mistakes
That we are not the same
‘Cause we are not the same
And we are all to blame
And if you save my life
I’ll be the one who drives you home tonight
And if they ever let you down
I’ll be the one who drives you home tonight
You home tonight
They’re tryin’ to bring you down
they're trying to bring you down
they're trying to bring you down
they're trying to bring you down
they're trying to bring you down
it's trying to bring you, trying to bring you down
You don’t know a thing about this life
And you don’t know a thing about this life
And you don’t know a thing about this life
‘Cause you don’t know a thing about me
You don’t know a thing
And if you save my life
I’ll be the one who drives you home tonight
If they ever let you down
I’ll be the one who drives you home tonight
You home tonight
Well you home tonight."
The room was silent. And then all the friends started clapping and roaring in happiness, Hayley repeating some of the lyrics out loud with a pretty voice. Over all the commotion, I could see Gerard's lips moving. Like he was saying something quietly.
It was 'thank you'.
