Frank and I walked out of class and down to the front office, hand in hand. People were still staring, but I paid very little attention. We reached the office where Mikey and Ray were waiting for us.
“Where were you guys?” Ray said. He had a look of confusion on his face.
“In the classroom still,” Frank said. I was curious what the assembly was about. Even more so why we were told to stay in our classroom.
Ray furrowed his brow. “Really?” We both nodded. “Hmm. That’s weird. You were the only ones not in there.”
“What was it about, anyway?” I said.
“Mr. Mabbitt was talking about homophobia and the lack of acceptance for gay kids in this school was upsetting,” Mikey said, “just stuff like that. It was kind of weird. And really random too.”
Frank and I looked at each other, blushing a little. “That is weird,” he said.
“Gerard!” I heard someone shout from behind me. I turned around and saw Mr. Mabbitt approaching us. “Gerard, Frank, I want to see both of you in my room first thing tomorrow morning.” Frank I nodded and he left.
“That was odd,” Ray said. I nodded in agreement.
“Come on guys, we have rehearsal,” Mikey said. We left the school and crossed the street over to Ray’s house. We entered the garage and began setting up.
“What song are we playing Gee?” Frank said. I pulled out my phone and scrolled through the list.
“How does ‘I’m Not Okay’ sound?” They all nodded and after a count down from Ray, we started.
Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say.
I never want to let you down or have you go, it's better off this way.
For all the dirty looks, the photographs your boyfriend took,
Remember when you broke your foot from jumping out the second floor?
I couldn’t help but smile when Frank played. He was really good. And for once, we really sounded like a band.
But you really need to listen to me
Because I'm telling you the truth
I mean this, I'm okay!
We practiced for about an hour, stopped to eat the pizza Ray’s mom had ordered, then practiced for about an hour more.
Life is but a dream for the dead,
And well I, I won't go down by myself,
But I'll go down with my friends.
Now now now now...
Now now now...
Now now, yeah!
We piled into the car, Ray and His mom in the front as always, me crushed happily up against Frank.
“Gee,” Frank said tugging on the sleeve of my hoodie. I turned to look at him. “Can I stay at your house tonight?” I smiled.
“Sure,” I said. He nuzzled me a little and smiled.
“Good.”

Yeah, you go, Mr Mabbit! Tell those bitches how the real world is.
And don't worry 'bout it, man. The real world is more important than fanfiction. Feel better, work your stuff out. Don't worry about us.
