And We Will Wear Our Masks Again Out After Dark
Chapter 1
As I burn another page,
As I look the other way.
I still try to find my place in the diary of....
They told me I was here for a reason, and that reason would come easy enough. They told me if I spoke to the right people, chose the right paths, I would find a way out. I would find my silver lining. They told me to make friends, live my life to the fullest, and I could escape. And never return. They did tell me that, yes.
They lied.
I ease my mind off the subject, taking a seat at the dining table. As I try to focus on other things, the thought comes back to me. A girl, the girl I know distracts me from my current thoughts. I didn't know her real name, and she didn't know mine. I simply called her Scout, and Scout called to me lazily, short brown hair tussled and messy. "Ghoul, how's you doing?"
"I'm good, how are you?" I questioned politely. She replied with a grin, and said, "I'se doing alright. Bored, but alright." I guess you could say she was my only friend, she was the only person I knew I could trust. She messed with her mask a bit, but not enough for it to fall off. No one took their masks off anyways. No one. Scout placed a hand under her chin, and sighed. "I'se got some news if you're willin' to hear," she whispered. I neared her face, big brown eyes staring into my hazel ones. "Tell me."
"Heard there's a newcomer down here, and he's quite the character," she explained. "He could end this, and he could open our doors. He could be our silver lining, Ghoul."
"Do whatever it takes, and say anything to get him on our side," I told her. Scout wasn't good with love or flirting, but she had to try. She had to.
"He likes gentlemen like you, Ghoul," Scout laughed. "Not a lady's man."
"Heaven help us," I muttered. "He won't like me. No one does."
"Keep a bright smile, enchant him."
I frowned. "Fine. What's his name; I'll be his waiter today."
"His name's Poison, he's famous for being called the Patient," she pointed to a young man with white hair. "Go. Heaven help us all."
"Indeed," I replied, making my way to this attractive man.
