Kill This Venom From My Heart

I watched her from outside, she was even more breathtaking then I remember. After school I followed Phoenix home, I saw her mom. She looked the same as the last time I saw her just older. It has been almost eighteen years since our last encounter, the night I helped them escape from Damian. Now, here she was back in my life and yet I still couldn't be with her. "You have no idea how much you mean to me."

Going back to the day I first met Phoenix, as soon as my eyes met hers I knew. She was my mate but not only did Damian want her dead but her father didn't approve. After I held her that day I knew I needed to protect her and love her. Phoenix was a special and unique creature, I've only heard of such a creature once before. Her mother, Barbara, is a human and her father, Marcus, is a vampire.

My precious Phoenix is a half breed and she doesn't even know. She has a great power inside her, hidden away for her protection and this is why Damian wants her dead. I continue to watch her, Damian could not find out she was here. It was a mistake taking her to the garden, he must have sensed her there.

Now she was walking around in her bedroom, night was coming fast. I was about to head home, assuming she was safe and asleep but I was wrong. What was she doing? She left the house and started walking towards the forest. Dammit Nix, why can't you behave? I followed close behind, but ended up losing her until I heard noises to my left.

Someone had her pinned to a tree and was about to bite her. Using my speed I slammed into him, knocking him away from her. We fought and I saw who it was, Jepha, one of Bert's men. He ran off into the night, leaving me with a dazed Nix. She tried to walk but nearly fell so I picked her up and carried her home. Her eyes slowly closed with her head against my chest, she was so beautiful. A low growl escaped my lips, it was extreme pain not being able to be with your mate.

We reached her house, "Phoenix? Wake up." Her eyes slowly opened and she smiled. "You're home, you should get some rest." I gently placed her on her feet, she steady herself before opening the door.

Phoenix turned back towards me, "thanks Gerard and I'm sorry. I just heard his voice, it was different then the one at the garden though."

"Again, unless it's me or one of the guys don't trust it."

"He said he knew things about me, things no one will tell me."

"I wouldn't worry about it Nix, just don't go anywhere without one of us. You need to be safe, it was a good thing I was watching you and......"

"You were watching me? That's kind of creepy Gerard. Maybe you're the bad vampires and I should be scared of you." She gave me a small smirk, and kissed my cheek. "Goodnight Gerard, thanks for a crazy first day here." I watched the door shut softly and decided it was now safe to walk home.

The next day at school I told the guys what happened. Frank wanted to rip his head off right there but luckily Ray talked him down. We decided to have a little chat with Bert, Jepha, Quinn and Dan about keeping a distance from Phoenix. Both groups met behind the school before classes began, Bert smiled with an evil grin.

"What's this about? You boys want a lesson outside of school?"

"Bert, I want you and your men to stay away from the new girl."

"Who?" Bert and I never broke eye contact with each other, even when the others spoke.
"You remember Bert, that pretty little thing who didn't move out I our way yesterday."

"Oh that's right Dan, I wonder if she needs to learn a lesson about manners."

I could sense Frank's anger growing. "Don't you dare touch her you pathetic excuse of a vampire!"

"Shut your mouth short stack or I'll rip your head off right here." Jepha threatened Frank and with that Frank lunged at him tackling him to the ground. The others followed in suit, Ray hitting Quinn repeatedly. Even my usually quiet brother Mikey took action and attacked Dan. While they fought Bert and I just stared, waiting to see who took the first move.

It was me, Phoenix was mine and I wouldn't let him touch her. Quickly I grabbed his head and smashed it with my knee, then against the school building. He lunged at me and knocked me on my back, his fists came fast and hit all over my entire body. With a shove I pushed him off, he came running towards me again. This time I was ready, I jumped against the wall landing behind him.

I grabbed both his arms and twisted them behind him, kicking his back, making him land on his face. "ENOUGH!!" We all stopped in place and looked up, the principle was glaring at us. "GET TO YOUR CLASSES NOW!!" Principle Gates was a vampire, a cruel one and none of us wanted to deal with him.

"This isn't over Way, I'll have that girl screaming and begging in no time."

"You or your boys come near her again I won't hesitate to kill you. I don't care of you're Damian's son or not, I'll rip you limb from limb." We went our separate ways, I looked at my guys and we all had our battle wounds. They would heal though, a nice perk of being a vampire. As we entered the school both vampires and humans stared at us. I went to find Nix, she was at her locker with another girl.

She saw me, "what happened? Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'll heal."

"Holy crap Nix, you're friends with a vamp?" The girl asked her excitedly.

"Oh sorry, Gerard this is Rose and Rose this is...."

"Gerard Freaking Way! You're one of the head vampires at this school and you're not trying to eat me." I reached to shake her hand and she roughly shook it. "Oh I have to get to class bye Phoenix and bye Gerard." She ran off leaving Nix and I alone.

"She's a different one."

"So are you. Rose is a friend of mine, really my only one." I leaned against the lockers next to hers.

"I'm not you're friend?" I asked her giving her a sad puppy dog look.

"She's my only human friend. Oh my mom and dad want to meet my friends, it's kind of a big thing. I don't make them easily, will you and the others come to my house after school!"

"I can't." The look on her face was complete sadness, "I-I just can't, they wouldn't like that we are vampires."

"No, they are very open minded, please Gerard." I couldn't say no to her, I wanted to do everything I could to please her.

"Alright, the guys and I will meet your parents." She leaped at me, wrapping her arms tightly around me. Her scent was intoxicating but not quite hers, hers was hidden in with this other smell. However, since I was able to smell her when she was a baby I learned what her true scent was.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" The bell rang signaling classes were about to begin.

"Shall we get through today?" Phoenix smiled and we walked into class together.

School ended without any signs of Bert or the others. I thanked the stars for the peaceful day. Frank, Mikey, Ray, Rose, Phoenix and I all met at the front doors of the school. "Everyone ready to meet my parents?" Everyone nodded but I knew there was a nervous feeling between us.

Phoenix and I rode my motorcycle to her house while Frank drove the others in his Impala. As we rode she tightly wrapped her arms around my waist and laid her head on my back. Once in the driveway she let go and I felt empty without her touch. The others arrived and we stood behind Nix as she opened the front door.

Rose pushed forward and entered right behind her but we stayed in place. "You guys coming in?"

Mikey was the one to answer her, "vampire rules, you have to invite us in or we can't enter."

"Oh right, sorry about that. Frank, Mikey, Ray and Gerard I invite you inside my house." We entered, I was the last and closed the door behind me. "Mom? Dad? Where are you?"

"In the kitchen Nix."

"I brought my new friends over so you could meet them." Her mother entered with Marcus right behind, he of course hasn't aged in the last fifteen years. "Guys this is my mom Barbara and my dad Marcus. Mom and Dad this is Rose."

"Oh hello dear!" Barbara hugged her tight. I could tell Marcus was not happy, he knew what we were. He hasn't seen my face though, when that happens I expect a fight.

"This is Frank, Mikey, Ray and Gerard." Her father leaned in and whispered to Barb.

"Oh I see, sweetie they are uhh..."

"Look I know they're vampires but they're okay. I promise they have been nothing but kind to me, there's no need to be scared of them."

"Well I'm happy to see my daughter gain friends, no matter what they are." She hugged all four of us, but stopped at me. "Oh my..." Barbara recognized me and smiled, she never had a problem with me. She leaned in and whispered, "it's good to see you again dear. I knew you two would find each other." Barbara kissed my cheek and smiled once more.

I made eye contact with Marcus and his eyes showed pure hatred. He never explained why he didn't want me with his daughter but it was fate that decided who I love. "Phoenix, take Rose and show her your bedroom."

"Dad but what about..."

"Now!" Nix took Rose's hand and they hurried upstairs. Marcus waited until the door closed to start talking. "I want you out of this house, don't ever talk to my daughter again especially you Gerard."

"Honey, they are her friends and you know Gerard is her mate."

"Wait a minute, how can Gerard be her mate? She's human." Mikey looked at me looking for answers.

Frank then asked, "what's going on here?"

Before Marcus could say anything it was Ray who of course had the answers. "She's a half breed, isn't she? Barbara you're a human but Marcus, you're a vamp like us."

"It's true, our little Nix is a half breed. She's special and we've been protecting her from Damian for nearly eighteen years. Gerard was the one that helped us escape fifteen years ago." Barbara was still the sweetest woman I've ever met.

"Gerard is not to come near her ever again. Now get out of my house."

"Marcus, you can't keep us apart forever. She's my mate and you know the pain a vampire goes through if they aren't connected with their love. I finally have her back in my life after fifteen years being separated. She is mine to protect and I will do everything in my power to keep her safe."

He came up to me, we were face to face both glaring and growling. "If anything happens to her, you'll be the one I blame. Now leave."

We started to exit the house but I turned around before closing the door. "Oh and Damian has spoken to her, keep an eye on her here. Bert's met her but he doesn't know who she is, he thinks she's just a human. Have a safe night, goodnight Barbara." I closed the door and got on my bike. Before I rode off I looked up to see Phoenix staring down at me. I waved goodbye and she waved back and smiled.

When I got home I knew I would have to do a little more explaining to the guys. With them knowing I could now have them help protect her without them wondering why. If Bert ever found out who she was, he would tell Damian and then the real trouble would begin.
