Out There

Chapter Seven.

"I'm going to go find Mikey." I muttered, pulling myself away from Gerard who had holding me and making sweet conversation for the passed 10 minutes.

"I'll come with you." Gerard spoke, taking my hand as we walked out the door together. A car zoomed past and I tore my hand away from his. We couldn't risk being seen my anyone from school. "Where do you think he'd go?" Gerard asked me, not acknowledging my action.

"I'm not sure, he doesn't have many other friends…" I trailed off. An idea sprung into my head, and seeing as it was the only one I head I went with it. I began walking towards the school.

"Where are we going?" Gerard said, holding himself tightly with his arms in the crisp night air which loomed around us. It had gotten considerably dark.

"When Mikey and I had really bad days, and didn't want to go home we used to hang out at McFerson Park." I explained. "He told me that whenever he was sad he went there." my strides towards like park got more confident. I saw a figure slowly swinging on the set and smiled when I saw it was Mikey. "Wait here." I spoke to Gerard, knowing that Mikey probably didn't want to see him. Gerard nodded and stopped walking.

I quickly jogged over to Mikey, who had his back to me. He had his earphones in so I knew he wouldn't hear me coming. I crashed into him forcing the swing to lunge forward. I had jumped on the back of the swing so we were swaying in the breeze together, when Mikey let out a shriek. "What the fuck?!" he yelled, twisting his head around. His wide eyes eased when he took in my face and gave me a lazy smile. "Oh, hey." he said, dragging his feet on the park dirt to slow the swing down.

"Hey, I found you." I smiled at him from my standing position. "I figured you would." he replied. Stepping off the swing throwing my balance off and causing me to fall off as well. Luckily I had reflexes quick as a fox thanks to Brett and the jocks always attempting to flick me.

"So what's a pretty lady like yourself doing out at this time of night?" I winked, teasingly.
"You tell me, nerd." he shot back with a goofy grin. I smiled at our nicknames, indicating we were alright. "Shut up, loser." I grinned. "Are you gonna come back home or are we sleeping here tonight." I sat down on the swing he was on before.

"I don't want to see Gerard." he sighed, taking the other swing. "He came with me. He wanted to know you're alright." I told him softly.

"Where is he now?" Mikey asked, looking around and spotting him on the other side of the street.
"He's a good guy, Mikey. He's just got problems that he needs help with." I sighed, staring intently at Mikey.
"I tried helping him, for two years. He was wasting his life away, he didn't even want help." Mikey scowled at me. "You don't know him. I can't believe he's been doing this behind my back. I was being a dick though, wasn't I?"
"Maybe he was scared. I mean, you weren't giving him much chance to open up recently. I think he's been stressed lately." I reasoned, smiling at Mikey.

"I know I wasn't. I'm just so mad that he moved out when he knew our mum needed help… and then everything with the drugs, he made me keep it from mum. She found out eventually though, and it really broke her." Mikey frowned, staring at the dirt. "He was so disgusting, Aeida. You can't even imagine, he was sleeping with random girls, he'd try any fucking drug. It was honestly a shock when he came back to take care of me." he muttered, and I let him speak, he probably hadn't even told anyone but a therapist these things. "I really tried reaching out to him, and it all became too much, you know? My dad… when he left us. And then with Gerard leaving, I had nobody. Except mum, who was with her boyfriend all the time. Nobody but you." he looked up to me. "I feel so stupid, after all these years I finally get to call you my girlfriend and it lasts a day." he chuckled, seemingly unbothered by that now.

"I'll always be there for you Mikes." I said, trying to convey what I felt.
"Yeah, you're right. I really want us to be friends. But what should I do about Gerard?" he sighed, glancing over the street to Gerard, who's face was illuminated by the glow of his phone.
'I'm thinking the exact same thing' I thought to myself.

"You two should really talk it out. It's painful seeing how dysfunctional your relationship is." I chuckled, Mikey nodded and we walked over to Gerard who was now on his phone.
"I'll have to check if I'm busy…sure. I'll give you a call later on… yeah. You too, have a good night." Gerard spoke softly into the phone. "Hey Mikes." he smiled, slipping the phone into his back pocket.

"Mikey." he corrected with a weak smile.. I glared at him and shook my head and he sighed. "Sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you or brought that shit up." he apologised quietly.

"You were right though, I shouldn't have shut you and mum out. I'm going to stop, I promise. I'll even to go to those stupid addict meetings." Gerard assured Mikey, awkwardly glancing at me.
I nodded at him and began walking back to the house, leaving them to sort their problems out themselves. I felt achieved knowing I'd be apart of the beginning their reconciliation. It had gotten dark and chilly and I wrapped my arms around myself and shivered. The road was completely covered with darkness aside from the orange-yellow gleaming light of the lampposts. My breath was visible in in front of me and I tried to not feel paranoid. I hurried my steps and got closer to the Way's house. I could see the glare of headlights approaching me, and I stalked off to the side of the walkway, hoping to be hidden by the dark. The car slowed down as it neared me and I held my breath. The driver rolled down the passenger's window seat and I could barely make out a face. I knew there was only one person in the car and that made me even more nervous.

"You lost?" A voice called through the window. I shook my head and realised the driver probably couldn't see me that well either. "No, thank you." my voice was shaky both from nerves and the cold. "Aren't you uh… Aeida. You're friends with that Mikey kid, right?" the voice asked, which poked at my curiosity. I stepped more onto the sidewalk and neared the curb. "Yeah, sorry I can't see your face. Who're you?" I asked, tightening my grip around myself.

"Frank Iero, I'm in your year, none of your classes." I heard the smile through his voice. "Do you need a ride anywhere?" he asked politely, leaning closer to the window. I tried to take in his appearance, but I couldn't take my eyes away from his own eyes. They were hazel and shining- entrancing. "No, I'm going to Mikey's, it's just a bit down the road." I explained.

"It's pretty late… what you doing going over there?" Frank asked with an amused expression.
"I'm staying there for a while actually." I smiled, feeling a faint breeze brush past and making me shiver. I glanced further down the street and saw Gerard and Mikey begin to walk towards me. They both noticed me talking to a 'stranger' and they looked at each other and began running. "Speaking of…" I gestured down towards the two.

"So Mr. Way's his brother…" Frank noted, looking at them. "They live together?" he asked looking back to me, I nodded. "So basically you're living with Mr. Way." he smirked and I tensed up.

"Uh, yeah I guess. You won't tell anyone right?" I asked, stepping closer to the car. "No, none of my friends would give a shit anyway." he chuckled. "They probably think I'm a stranger harassing you right?"

"I don't know, are you a stranger harassing me?" I giggled. "But yeah, probably."

He let out a lighthearted laugh and looked at the two who were jogging towards us. "Why are you staying with them then?" he nodded at them. "It's kind of complicated. I needed a place to stay." I sighed. He turned and smiled at me. "If you ever need a place to stay, my mum is the type to take basically anyone in. It'd be cool to have you around, and stuff. No offence or anything, but I think it'd be better than staying with your English teacher." he chuckled. I grinned at him and made some half-hearted laugh noise and nodded back. "Yeah I'll keep that in mind."

He pulled out his phone and passed it to me. I looked at him slightly befuddled for a moment. "Could I get your number?" he asked, his eyes lighting up. He was one of the most adorable people I'd ever seen in all honesty.

I didn't know if he was asking for my number so he could invite me to stay with him or for other reasons, but at that moment I didn't really care. I took his phone and lightly tapped in my number. I handed it back to him. He grinned at me then his gaze fixed on something behind me and I felt a hand touch my shoulder, making me jump out of my skin.

I saw Gerard standing behind Mikey, who was slightly out of breath. "Hello to you too." I mumbled at them. "Everything alright?" Mikey asked me, his eyes shifting towards the car. "I could ask you two the same thing." I mumbled. "Yeah, this is Frank. From school." I introduced, gesturing to the face which was now observing the three of us.

"Good evening Sir, Mikey." Frank smiled at the brothers. "Good evening Frank." Gerard replied politely, not taking his eyes away from me. "Is there a reason you pulled over to talk to someone on the side of the street?" Mikey addressed Frank, squeezing my shoulder protectively.

"I thought she might have been lost or something, I don't know." Frank mumbled. "Yeah well she's fine now." Mikey snapped. Frank rolled his eyes then gave me a sly wink and slid back over to the drivers seat and drove away.

"That was a bit unusual." Gerard noted as we started walking back to the house. "This whole day has been unusual." I sighed.

The way back to the house was silent and uncomfortable. Gerard told us that the person he was on the phone to was a fellow teacher inviting him out to dinner, other than that it was completely silent. I could tell Mikey and Gerard hadn't completely sorted things out. In all honesty I was surprised at Mikey's irrationality, what he brought up was so random. When we reached the house, I went straight to sleep in Mikey's bed- not bothered with goodnights. I just wanted to wake up to a new day. Before I fell asleep though I felt my phone go off and I received a text from an unknown number.
