Don't Tell Me Who I Am

Sick

"Hey Mikes, how was your day?" I asked my best friend while we walked to our usual spot for lunch.

"Eh, the usual. You?" He said, kicking the dead grass below our feet.

"Fine, fine. New seats in Botkin though." I admitted.

"Aw man, who'd you get stuck with?" Mikey questioned.

"Mikayla, you know 'er? I kinda wondered what he knows about her. She seemed alright. Not like we could be friends, but if I have to sit by her for the rest of the year mind as well try to figure her out.

“Oh, her? Dude I am so sorry.” He said.

“Why are you sorry? She seems pretty cool.”

“Dude, she’s fucking crazy. Cuts herself and everything.”

“What?”

“Yeah dude, didn’t you see her arms? That shit’s sick.”

“Oh, well…. other than that, what do you know?”

“Why do you care?”

“Just curious, geez.” I scoffed

“Oh, well not much, other than I swear her and that chick she hangs out with are gay lovers. They’re always hanging on each other and hugging. It’s like her friend’s the only one she talks to.”

“Oh,” My words trailed off as we peered around the corner of the small building and saw two chicks sitting on the sidewalk against the wall. The one had short, choppy, reddish purple hair had her back against the brick and her arms around a shaking brown-eyed girl who had her head against the girl’s chest.

It took a few moments before I realized the shaking girl was Mikki. But it was too late to stop the fuming Mikey from making a scene.

“Why the hell are you in our spot!?” Mikey spat at the two girls huddled into a ball on the ground.

“Mikes-” I was cut off by Mikki when she whipped her head up and shakily standing up.

“It’s not your fucking spot.” She seethed, wiping her eyes and wrapping her arms around her torso.

“Yeah? Well whatcha gonna do about it?” Mikey challenged.

“Mikey- Mikes. Stop. I’ll handle it.. Go hang out with Bob or something.” I interjected.

He glared at Mikki for a few moments before I shoved him back in the direction of the bleachers where Bob, Ray and his brother usually hang out.

“I’m really sorry, Mikki, it wasn’t his place.” I apologised

“It’s fine.” She assured before sliding to the floor and hugging her knees to her chest.

KiAnna finally intervened by whispering unknown words in Mikki”s ear before getting up and walking towards me.

“What do you want from her?” She stood with her hip cocked and eyes narrowed.

“Nothing, really, I jus-”

“Then go.” She made a shooing motion with her hands.

I turned around and started to walk back to Mikey before I heard Mikki call my name.

“Wait! Frank, hold on.” She mumbled a few words to her friend before running up to me, grabbing my wrist and pulling me towards the track.
