The Only Kingdom You'll See Is Two Feet Wide And Six Feet Deep
Watch Me Burn
Gerard's POV
Flames burn like a thousand suns, but words burn like hell. They can burn you, pierce through the thickest parts of you, and change you. One day, you could be the man with a plan or the light behind someone's eyes. But the next day, everything could change. Or, better said, everything will change. There is nothing I could do to change that, and if there was, the same couldn't be said for everyone else. There will always be someone, demons, hurting you, whether you choose to fight back or not. They will find you, and drown you. I was once asked to defeat my demons, and all my nonbelievers and the plans that they have made. But I failed.
I'm sorry dad. I failed you.
Everything I do is to survive, to find my way alive. Because, there is always a silver lining, and there is always more steps to the staircase. A wise man once said that life wasn't a crystal staircase. It was ripped of its carpet, its shine, and completely horrid. But, you don't stop or go back, you never look back. You go where the light has never shone, and you turn tables and you find memories, and you survive. Through it all, you survive.
Math was starting, and as a freshman, I didn't talk much and began my work immediately. Behind me, he was there. He was with that girl, and with those guys, just like the old times in middle school. This was exactly like middle school. I hated middle school.
"There are other seats, you know," I reminded them, even with a fake smile and everything.
The boy pulled a chair and positioned it backwards, crossing his arms over the back rest and laying his chin above it all. With a smirk, he replied. "Yeah, I'd just love to sit with an old friend of mine." The way he pronounced friend sent chills up my spine, and I happened to bite my tongue to keep from responding too quickly.
" I don't believe I've seen you before," I lied, almost swallowing my soul whole.
" It's old Cameron, remember?" he laughed maliciously. "We used to hang out all the time together."
"Hence the words used to," I replied.
"Come on, Way. Remember the times where we hung out while your dad was talking with my mom? They were the best of times."
I want to hurt you so badly, I think to myself. " I didn't see it that way, Cam."
"Gerard, you've been in school for about three months, and you haven't got a friend. Come on, I want to be that person."
His friends sighed, and the blond girl had her teeth chomping on that gum like it was her job. She rolled her eyes to me. "D'you lose weight, Way?"
I let out a breath of air and twirled my black hair between my fingertips. "Nice to see you too, Jenny." Her twin, Johnny looked back at me when he felt the immense sarcasm in my voice. "Gee, we haven't spoken to you in ages! What's on your mind, man?"
Johnny was so nice. And so was Jenny, most of the time. Why they hung out with a demon like Cameron, was beyond me.
Cameron's fake smile spread across his face fast. "See, we're all getting along again, aren't we?"
Johnny smiled and tugged at my zipped up black hoodie. "Hey Gee, unleash the bats!"
I opened my hoodie and smiled, where the insides were filled with little silhouettes of bats. I hissed playfully like a bat, and enjoyed how Johnny was laughing and Jenny was giggling.
Cameron's eyes stared deeply into mine. " I'll never forget, Gerard." I held my breath.
"What?" Jenny asked.
"I was just welcoming our little friend back," he replied.
Jenny and Johnny began debating something in the corner of the room.
"Welcome back, you little fuck," he whispered. "Welcome back."
