The Ghost From Our Past

"Hi, welcome to Android Girl's Comix and Evenstar Cafe! I'm Emily and if you need any help just let me know." I greeted the the new customers before heading back to my work. Right now I was putting up the new comics on the shelf. My eyes caught the new hardcover of Umbrella Academy Hotel Oblivion.

A quick smile came across my face, I picked one up and set it aside for myself. Once the shelves were full I got up and placed the comic behind the counter. I was a huge fan of Gerard Way, not just his comics but of course his music too. Before their split a few years ago, I was a fan of My Chemical Romance too.

The sun went down, customers left and it was time to close up. My boss, Heather, came out from the office. "Emily, go home already."

"I have to buy this first, plus I was making sure the place was cleaned up." She came around and looked at what I wanted to buy. Heather chuckled, it was normal for me to find something I wanted and buy as soon as I could.

"Umbrella Academy? Don't you already own the separate issues?"

"Your point being? Just take my money already."

Heather handed me the comic, "just take it and go home." I hugged her and left the shop.

I arrived at the apartment, stopping to get the mail like I usually do. At the moment I lived with my boyfriend Syn, he treated me like a queen. Using my keys I unlocked the door, to be greeted by little squees.

Right away I looked down to see my tiny pink kitty, James. Syn and I found him at a shelter, he was rescued from a bad home. The poor thing never learned how to meow, now he just makes these tiny squee sounds.

"Babe, I'm home! I got the new hardcover of Hotel Oblivion." Syn came running out and kissed me deeply. I giggled and he backed away, "what was that for?" He had a big grin on his face, either he did something wrong or something amazing happened. "What did you do?" I picked James up and started to pet him, Syn joined in.

"I didn't do anything Em, I swear it." All I had to do was glare at him and he told me. "Okay, the surprise is on Saturday night we have a date."

"Syn, you planned a date for us? What's the occasion?"

"It's a surprise but I'm taking you to this very nice restaurant." He kissed me again, everything was just about perfect in my life. Now I was really excited about Saturday night, it had been awhile since we went out together.

After what seemed to take forever, Saturday night finally arrived and I was ecstatic. I was in the bathroom finishing getting ready. Right now I was putting on my makeup, which really wasn't a lot. Syn told me I had natural beauty and didn't need to cake on anything.

So I decided on a light pink lip gloss, a little blush and just a hint of light pink eyeshadow. My dress was black that sparkled and I was wearing my black and white converse. I looked at my hair one more time in the mirror, the long blonde locks were pinned up and curled. A few strands escaping, I looked pretty elegant.

When I walked into the bedroom, Syn was waiting for me. "Wow, you look breathtaking. Do a little spin." I did even though I was embarrassed. He was wearing a button up red shirt with a black tie. Just recently he got his long black hair cut, now it was spiked and short.

"Ready to go?" He walked behind me, running his hand across the back of my neck.

"Just one more thing." Syn placed a beautiful silver diamond encrusted heart necklace around my neck. On the backside of the heart read "My beautiful sweet, I give you my heart now and forever."

"Syn, it's beautiful but it's too much." He turned me around so we were face to face.

"Nothing is ever going to be too much for you because you deserve the world. Besides it matches the bracelet with the heart on it you always wear."

We started kissing and things were getting heated. He pushed me towards the bed, I fell onto it and him on top of me. "Syn, we're going to be late."

He leaned in and seductively whispered in my ear, "then I guess we should make this quick." Next thing I knew he was unzipping my dress as I unbuttoned his shirt.

We were holding hands in the car as he drove to the restaurant. He had a bag with him, when I asked what was inside he told me not to worry about it. "You are so amazing, I hope you know that Em." Syn would always say the most amazing things to me.

Once we arrived at the restaurant he grabbed the bag from the backseat and then opened my door. I recognized the restaurant, I'm pretty sure I've eaten here before. The inside was filled with people's chatter and the clinks and clanks of dishes. A tall man wearing a suit, who had a small mustache, greeted us.

"Hello Sir and Madam, how can I help you?" As Syn told him our reservations I drifted off into my own world. There was a giant fish tank with such colorful fish, I got distracted just watching them swim around.

A hand came on my shoulder, "come on sweetie, table's ready." I turned and smiled at him, the tall man showed us to our table. It took me a few minutes to realize who was sitting at our table. Syn came from behind me, a big grin on his face and whispered, "surprise."

I was sitting at the table, they were running a bit late. Hopefully they could find the place alright. As I sat there all I could do was just sip at my coffee, which was now getting cold. Finally I saw them standing at the front, talking to Pierre. My hands started to get sweaty and my heart raced as they were walking to the table.

Emily stared at me in shock, Syn whispered something in her ear that I couldn't quite make out. "Oh my God, you're Gerard Way." She was excited and was trying to stay quiet and not make a scene. "Syn, you knew about this? Why didn't you tell me?"

"Gerard said to keep it a surprise for you." I stood up, shook Syn's hand and hugged Emily. Then we all sat down at the table. We waited for our server, once we ordered our meals I decided to ask questions.

"So how long have you been together?"

"Nine months, I delivered food to her place and I just fell in love. One day I finally asked her out on a date, she said yes and here we are."

"Emily, where do you work?"

"Android Girl's Comix, I absolutely love it too." The conversations continued with me trying to get anything from the questions. Soon our meals arrived and we ate, at one point Syn made a joke and we all started laughing. I did notice Emily would bite her bottom lip from time to time, Shy did that a lot too.

"Wow that was really good, how was your meals?"

"Mine was very delicious, cooked to perfection."

"Same here, that's why I like coming here. I haven't had a bad meal here ever." Syn got up and kissed Emily's cheek.

"Babe, can you order me like a chocolate cake? I gotta hit the bathroom, too much to drink." She nodded, he kissed her again and left. This was the perfect time to really get to know Emily.

Before I could ask her a question, she asked me one. "Gerard, why have you been string at me?" She noticed I had been watching her and now I had to explain myself.

"I apologize Emily, you just remind me a lot of my friend."

"Who was she?"

"Actually she was my personal assistant, her name is Shiloh. She became more then an assistant though, I started to have feelings for her."

"You had feelings for your assistant? That sounds like the plot of a really bad porno, the lonely artist and his assistant." We both started to laugh, was hers similar to Shy's? "So what happened to her?"

"Thanks to me, she got in a really bad relationship. He's know in prison and she's in witness protection. I asked her to try and stay in contact but I haven't heard from her in almost two years."

"Maybe she's not able to contact you, there's several factors."

"Like what?"

"Well the FBI could have told her not to for safety or something as simple. Have you changed your number since your last encounter with her?" I smacked myself in the head, she had just figured it out.

"About a month after, my family and I all got new phones and numbers. Shiloh could have tried to call but got a disconnection notice."

"There ya go, see I'm sure your friend is fine. Can I ask a question?" I nodded, "what about me reminds you of her?"

"Little things like your smile, laugh, the way you bite your bottom lip and you even ordered the same meal she got when I brought her here. Your eyes are a different color then hers but there's something similar to them."

Syn arrived back at the table just as the waiter came to take dessert orders. "Made it back in time I see." We ordered our treats and continued to talk. Emily and Syn really were pretty cool fans. I gave up that Emily was Shiloh, it was for the best if I didn't hold on to that.

After desserts I noticed Syn had a bag with him. "Alright, what do you have for me to sign?" He lifted up the bag to his knees and took out all of the items he had in it. I actually gasped at how much he brought and so did Emily.

"Syn, he's one man. Were you seriously thinking of making him sign all of this?"

He got nervous, "well...uhhh no. I-I just wasn't sure what you wanted signed." She giggled at him and shook her head. Then she started looking and picked out three items. My Helena action figure, my solo album and the hardcover of Hotel Oblivion.

"Do either of you have a piece if paper, I need to write something down." I took out my sketch pad that I always had on me because you never know when inspiration will strike. Then I ripped off a sheet and handed it to her. "Thanks."

As Emily started to write, I started to sign. Just because of the situation I ended up signing everything for them, it gave Emily enough time to finish whatever she was writing. After Syn put all of the now signed items back in the bag, we just sat and talked. Syn and I both had some coffee and Emily, who didn't like coffee, had water.

After awhile we decided to say our goodbyes. I walked them to their car, hugged both of them and told them to have a goodnight. My back was turned to them as I headed for my car. "Gerard, wait!" I quickly turned back around to see Emily coming towards me.

"What's wrong?"

She handed me a folded piece of paper, "you dropped this. Have a goodnight."

As she walked away from me I looked at the paper. It said "do not open until back home". I didn't drop this, I looked up and saw their car driving away. What was this? I wanted to read it right there but decided to do as the paper said. So I quickly got to my car and headed home. What was on this piece of paper?
