Keep Me Safe from Myself

Gerard's POV

“Don’t fucking touch me.” The acidity in her words made me physically flinch. All I could do was hold back tears as I withdrew my hands. I watched her flinch at her own statement, guilt washing over her face like a tidal wave. She’s never been a violent person; she has too big of a conscious.

I nodded softly and stood back up as she ripped away from me and bolted for the front door, with Frank at her heels calling her back. All I wanted was for it all to end, for everything to go back to normal. I want to spend the rest of my life convincing her she doesn’t have to pick up her broken pieces alone. I want her to know that she has my heart and my soul.

But I also need to give her time to process another betrayal.

I sat on the floor for a few minutes, my ears perked up as I heard Hannah start screaming emotionally at Frank.

“I can’t fucking do this Frank! Why did you bring me here?!” I heard Frank utter a few calm and encouraging words, but he was too quiet for me to make sense of it.

Moments later, Frank walked back in with a red face, puffy eyed Hannah. Her eyes turned a cold color as she pushed past me and went straight for the fridge in the other room. I followed her as she practically ripped the door off its hinges, revealing a mostly empty fridge with a freshly bought six-pack of Sam Adam’s I’d picked up yesterday. She grabbed the handle of the cardboard holding it together and slammed it on the counter, ripping it open with ease. I watched in amusement as she screamed at the top of her lungs and launched the first bottle at the wall, relieving her anger as the copper glass shattered into oblivion against the black paint. She panted angrily as she grabbed the second bottle and smashed it against the kitchen tiles, shrieking again as it cracked into larger pieces this time, the bottle oozing alcohol as it splattered everywhere and seeped into the floor.

She repeated this process until all six bottles were completely obliterated around my kitchen. She turned to me with sad eyes, her hair dripping with the back spray of beer that had bounced off of the surface that’d been her target at the time. That’s my girl.

“Are you done?” I whispered, a smirk curling against my lips.

“Only if you are.” She ran up to me and jumped in my arms loving me, hugging me tightly in the warm embrace only she can provide.

"Promise me again, that you will never, ever drink. If you break it this time, then... I don’t know what were gonna do. Got it?"

I nodded my head rapidly with a giant grin on my face.

"Fine, then I forgive you Gee."

I felt like jumping up and down with excitement. I was so ecstatic that she forgave me. All I could do at the moment was hug her even tighter.

“Everything we do is bittersweet.” She mumbled into my shoulder. I grinned and chuckled softly.

“You can tell me secrets that I’ll probably repeat.”

“I’m not trying to hurt you, I just love to speak.”

“It feels like we’re pulling teeth-“

“So bittersweet.” We both finished, our words toppling each other. The only thing that broke our mantra was the fading sound of sirens at our door. I heard Frank start to freak out a little bit.

“God Damnit Hannah, fucking- the neighbors called the cops on us!” We both giggled incessantly as I brought he in for a long, passionate embrace. I only broke off the kiss when I heard a knock at the door.

“Care to do the honors of explaining your temper-tantrum?”

“It would be my pleasure.” She smiled against my lips, kissing my quickly one last time as we made out way to the door.
