How the misery begins
when I smile tell, me some bad news
Yep. I was right. It was awkward as fuck. The whole time gerard and mikey were glaring daggers at each other through the rear view mirror, and I just sat there uncomfortably not knowing what to do. We drove for about ten minutes until a large, modern looking school came into view. Gerard stopped the car in the parking lot and turned to face us. "I'll see you both at lunch yeah?" He looked at mikey, only glancing at me a few times. "Sure, remember what I said?" Mikey glared, raising an eyebrow. "Of course, see you later" he held up his hand as a goodbye as we got out of the car, then he drove off. "Where's he going?" I asked mikes. "Counselling" he replied bluntly, still looking slightly pissed off. "Oh, okay" I didn't ask what for, I didn't like to pry, and it was none of my business anyway. Mikey led me up the stairs past the main gate, and then into the hallway. He told me where the office was and that they would give me my time table and other information there, then he ran of to his English class. I kind of wished he would go with me to the office, but he had to get to class, and I didn't want to get him in trouble. I walked through the halls, despite the modern looking exterior, the inside of the school looked battered and poorly looked after. I was surprised mikey and gerard didn't go to private schools or something, after all they had enough money for it. Hard as it is to believe, they were far from the spoiled little rich kids you would expect. They were always polite to Jamia and the other maids and butlers, they helped when ever they could, and they never asked for much either. I did all of those things too, but it was partly because I'd lived there for just over a month and I couldn't just treat them as my slaves. Don and Donna were also incredibly respectful, helping clean up even though they had maids, cooking even though they had butlers, they were just wonderful people all together, and I admired them for that. I got to the office and stood at the desk, waiting for a receptionist of some sort to help me out. After waiting for over five minutes, a tall blond woman with way to much makeup on came over and sat in the desk chair. "How can I help you sweetie?" Her smile was incredibly fake, almost as fake as her appearance. "Uh, I'm Frank Iero, I'm new" "Oh, so your the newbie huh? Don't worry, you'll get on just fine here at Belleville. Come round the back and we'll get your schedule." I followed her to the back as she sauntered about on her school inappropriate stilettos, and went to the printer. "Your first class is advanced physics with Mr Murphy in B8, there's a map of the schools classrooms on the back so you don't get lost." She continued to point out the various information on the paper as if I didn't know how to read, but I just smiled politely and went along with it. "Hey, you got advanced physics first?" I turned to see the body that the voice belonged to, and I was greeted by an extremely tall boy with the coolest Afro I'd ever seen. He was standing right in front of me, and was uncomfortably close.
"Uh...I uh...Yeah, yeah I do" I stuttered out nervously. "Me too, I'll walk with you" he shook my hand "I'm Ray, by the way" "Hey, I'm Frank" "Well Frank, I just need to get my behaviour report signed then we'll be on our way" he smiled warmly then went to talk to the blond lady. He came back a few minutes later and we started walking to class. "So, where are you from?" Ray asked. "I've been moving around for most of my life, I can't even remember where I'm from originally" "Wow, really?" "Yeah, it kinda sucked. What about you, where are you from?" "Belleville New Jersey, born and raised baby" he said with this huge cheesy grin. The rest of the way was pretty much him asking me questions, and it felt good to talk to someone other than mikey. Don't get me wrong, he's amazing, it's just that I hadn't spoken to anyone else in so long. The only friend I had in Newark was a boy called Billie-Joe, but he moved out of town after we'd only been friends for a couple of months. I felt kinda sad about it, he was the only person I could be myself around, but he left, and I was stuck on my own again. We got to physics, and I was seated next to Ray at the back of the class. I paid attention for the most part, but eventually got bored and resorted to tapping my pen on the desk and staring blankly out of the window.
"Mr Iero, I asked you a question" I was awoken from my daydream by a pair of fingers snapping frantically in front of my face. Mr Murphy loomed over my desk, staring at me sternly. "I-I'm sorry sir, what was the question?" There were a few snickers from around the room, as usual, people found humour in my discomfort. "I asked you what the difference is between geocentrism and heliocentrism" he replied in his thick English accent. I felt the eyes of my peers boring into me intently, waiting for me to fuck up, little did they know I was one of the best physics students in my previous school. Time to show off just how much of a science nerd I was. "Geocentrism is the theory that the earth is the centre of the universe, a theory created by Ptolemy, whereas heliocentrism is the theory that the Sun is the centre of the universe, a theory created by Aristarchus. Neither of them are fully correct, although heliocentrism is a closer interpretation as to how the solar system works." I immediately relaxed, feeling proud of myself for not fucking up on my first day in front of everyone. Although I did get a few odd looks from the other students. "You are correct, however, if I find you day dreaming or not paying attention in my class again, you will be given an Immediate detention." He leaned in closer so no one else would hear his next words. "You're new here, so I'll give you some advice. Do not to get on my bad side, because believe you me, you will live to regret it. I am to be treated with respect, you hear, and I refuse to tolerate insufferable slackers, such as yourself, in my classroom." I sat there completely frozen with shock as he walked back to the front of the class and continued teaching, until Ray leaned over to me. "Don't worry, he does that to all the new kids. He likes to intimidate us." Rays attempts to reassure me weren't that helpful.
"I'm pretty sure he's snape's long lost brother or something, he scares the living shit out of me" I whispered violently. Ray didn't reply, he only shook his head and let out a small chuckle, then returned to his work. The snape comparison was quite uncanny though, he had longish greasy black hair, he wore black slacks with a long black coat, and his voice had the same deep, slow quality Alan Rickman possessed. Not to mention his vocabulary, Mr Murphy's word choice wasn't something you'd expect from your physics teacher, and it was honesty quite nerve wrecking.I spent the remainder of the lesson paying close attention and feverishly scribbling down notes into my book, even though I knew it all already. The next few lessons flew by, and the ones I had without Ray were spent sat at the back of the class quietly with my head down. Soon it was time for lunch, so I headed to the cafeteria, looking around for mikey.
Notes
I met Jonathan Ross in my comic book store and that put me in a good mood so I decided to write some more!
Also, I'd like to know what you guys think of this so far. I'm don't know if I should bother to continue it or not?
Thanks x
I was really enjoying this, it was a good read
