things are better if I stay

Frank’s POV

Everything Gerard said about himself is nowhere near true. He honestly is amazing, we like similar stuff, we’ve gone through similar stuff, he’s hilarious, very good looking, and an amazing drawer. Those people making him feel shitty about himself are just plain jealous of him.
Ten minutes later we decided to have a bit of fun, by playing hide-and-seek. Well it was kind of my idea but I never really got to play it much at school, seeing as I had like no friends. It was my turn to hide, but as I literally don’t have the strength to climb a tree, I decided to hide behind one, making as little noise as possible. Surprising enough for me, Gerard only took, like, five minutes to find me. It was harder for me to find him though because he can climb really high, so I took around ten minutes just trying to find the right tree, then I had to crane my neck right up so I could glimpse a sight of his messy black mop of hair. Thankfully I did find him, even if it did take about half an hour.

“I’m craving a coffee right now, care to come round mine?” He asked me.

“Sure!” I said back, I’m really craving a Starbucks, but coffee at Gerard’s should be alright.
We walked the short journey to Gerard’s house, and once we were inside I introduced myself to Gerard’s parents. They said it’s a, and I quote directly, ‘pleasure to have me here’. They seem really great parents, I wish mine were like them.

“Well we’re going out for the night, don’t get into trouble, snacks in the kitchen, help yourself,” Gerard’s mum, Donna I think her name is, smiled warmly. Yup, I’d really love parents like these. I texted my own mum to tell her where I was and what time I’m probably going to be back. She texted back saying she wants me home by ten. I then texted back, agreeing. It was only about five, so I had plenty of time.

We entered the kitchen once his parents left and made ourselves coffee.

“Woah, this is damn good coffee,” I thought aloud.

“Indeed it is, my friend.”

“What coffee is this?” I asked, curious.

“David Lynch, I take it you didn’t have it back in England?” David Lynch… I should probably remember that name.

“Nope, coffee in England was really bad, not nearly as good as this. We did have Starbucks though, which I was highly thankful for,” I admitted. I hated English coffee.

Once we finished our coffee we were already in Gerard’s bedroom, and I was admiring the artwork scattered around his room. Amazing.

“I see you like my drawings then,” He must’ve seen me staring at the one with the vampire.
“They’re amazing! How do you do it?”

“Practice, I guess, I grew up on comic books so I tried copying the artworks in those, then as I got older I started making my own, I have a few over here,” He said as he reached over to the little table next to his bed, and grabbed multiple pieces of paper with drawings and words on them. He handed them over to me, letting me have a look at them. They’re so original it amazing.

“Where do you get the ideas from? I’ve never seen anything like them,” I seem to be asking too many questions at the moment, he’s going to get annoyed.

“I don’t know, I guess it’s because I’m alone a lot of the time, so I have more time to think things up,” Maybe he was happy enough before… Shut up Frank, stop doubting things! You’re not going to keep any friends if you keep this up.

It was now about half past six, and I was starving.

“You not hungry?” I asked Gerard, who was too engrossed in a drawing of his.

“Nope, you?” Why does he never eat? I’ve never seen him consume anything today besides coffee and air.

“Yeah, I’m starving,”

“Oh, right, well, I could make you a, um, sandwich if you like?” He asked, sounding really awkward.

“No, it’s okay, I can do it myself,” I said, then went downstairs to the kitchen to make my sandwich. I opened the cupboards to see it near empty. Either this kid eats too much one day so he doesn’t eat the next, or he just never eats anything what so ever, so his parents only buy food for themselves. Or I’m looking in the wrong cupboard.

I eventually found the things to make a simple sandwich – ham, cheese, butter, and bread. It took me less than a minute to make and eat it, so soon enough I was in Gerard’s room again to see him put a DVD into his TV, which I actually never noticed.

“What’re we watching?” I asked, hoping it’d be something good.

“The Powerpuff Girls: The movie. Nah I’m joking, is The nightmare before Christmas good enough?” I love that movie! The nightmare before Christmas, I mean, but I’m sure the powerpuff girls is also great. We sat next to each other on the little couch thing as the movie started.

45 minutes into the movie, I found Gerard had fallen asleep with his head on my lap. He looked so adorable and vulnerable, I couldn’t help but play with him hair, softly, so I don’t wake him up.
Later on, I looked up at the clock on the wall, and I could just make out the time through the dark. 9:45. I must’ve fallen asleep, as the movie was now at an end, and looked like it had been like that for a while. It then hit me that I had to be at home in fifteen minutes, so I gently pushed Gerard off my lap, but unfortunately that woke him up.

“I have to go home now, Gee,” I whispered to him. Don’t know why I whispered, I think It’s because I’d just woken up.

“Ohh,” I could just make out his face doing a puppy dog expression, fake pouting and all. Much adorable, such cute (A/N sorry I had to xD please don’t kill me).

“Mum said I have to be home by ten,”

“Oh okay, would you like me to lead you out?” He asked, light the true gentlemen he is.

“Yes please” I replied with a smile. He escorted me through the house to the front door, then stopped and hugged me. I hugged back.

“Thank you,” He whispered.

“What for?” I asked, confused.

“Being a friend. That’s all I’ve ever asked for but I’ve just never got it, so thank you,” I smiled into his chest and simply said, “no problem.” I felt him kiss the top of my head, causing me to blush, thanking God for this moment. We let go, and I left to the nearest bus stop. I checked I had enough money for the journey, in which I do, thank God.

I hopped on the bus, sitting near the front. The journey only took about ten minutes, so I wasn’t too late home, only a couple minutes.

“Frank Anthony Iero, you’re late,” I heard my mum call from the living room.

“Geez mum, calm down! Only by a couple minutes, don’t worry, I’m not dead, haha,” I joked.

“Okay hun, just as long as you’re safe. Have fun?”

“Yup,” and with that I went upstairs, stripped off my clothes so I was only in my boxers, turned out my light, and went straight to sleep.
