Change Days
Chapter III
The following day, Frank took a break at six in the afternoon. He got a can of Coke from the minibar and opened his laptop. “Okay”, he thought, “should I do it then?”.
He knew calling Gerard first was not an option. He had to contact Ray. Ray was touring Eastern Europe with his solo project. It was one o’clock in the morning in Bulgaria when Frank called him on skype.
- Dude! How are things in New York City? Got your album finished?
- Nah, still working on it. What about wherever-in-the-world- you-are-now?
- Bulgaria is pretty rad, man. Got to play at a great venue here in Sofia with some band from Belgium. We sold out, dude.
- Impressive!
- Yeah, feels great, almost like the old times.
- Uhm, yeah, now you mention that...
- Hmmm?
- I’ve seen Grace yesterday, d’you remember her?
- Of course! Gosh, how old is she now? Fifteen?
- Nineteen! Can you believe that? She was almost a baby when we recorded those videos...
- Man! Time flies!
- And well, I was... She... I...
- Oh please, don’t stammer. Shoot it, Frank!
- Can we get the band back?
- Oh dear.
- I know, it was a stupid idea...
- No, no. It wasn’t. It’s just that. Well, I thought of getting the band back so many times, but I’ve never had the balls to... you know... actually trying to do it.
- Man, don’t say that.
- I mean it... Like, I always pictured Gerard eye-rolling at me and telling me to get over it.
- Oh, yes. Gerard...
- He’s stubborn as a mule.
- Sassy diva.
Frank and Ray laughed non-stop for a minute or two. They both knew the hardest part of this was getting Gerard to say yes. Ray told Frank to wait until he got back to the States before making another move. They had to draw up their “master plan” together.
