The Light Behind Your Eyes

This Never Meant Nothing To Ya

~Frank's POV~

"What the hell was that all about?" I asked, extremely confused as I followed Gerard back to his bedroom.
"Uhh..I don't know. My parents wanted to talk to me about my sexuality and it kinda went to that. Wow." Gerard replied, throwing the small package into a corner of his bedroom.

I sat on his bed and picked up some comic books Gerard had let me read throughout the past week and a half. He had a really large collection of them and I’m sure I had like two. A Batman one and one Archie comic from awhile ago. I layed back on the pillow, reading and I could see Gerard pacing back and forth in the corner of my eye. Occasionally he would tug on his black hair.

"Gee, you alright?" I asked out of concern.
“I don’t know, my parents say we can’t show our affection for each other, its like they’re ashamed. Are they really ashamed of me!?” Gerard replied.
“Well they aren’t with us every second.” I said back
“W-what are you saying?” Gerard asked.
“They aren’t monitoring us, so we can do whatever we want. We can kiss in public or whatever, it’s not their call” I replied, smirking.

For the next couple of hours Gerard and I read and discussed comic books. After what seemed like the 200th book, Gerard received a text and checking his phone it was from Mikey. Mikey kept complaining about how tired he was and how he refused to walk home so Gerard got to go pick him up, leaving me in his room and leaving me bored as fuck. “Hey I gotta pick up Mikey he’s been pestering me for the past ten minutes” Gerard said.
“Mikey would have been home by now if he walked home ten minutes ago!” I called out.
“I know right, gotta love that kid, anyways bye Frankie" I finished one of the books Gerard had given me but instead of moving to the next one in the series I picked up the small package that Gerard and I had received and opened one of the booklets.

I think I read about one and a half pages and then I felt as if I shouldn’t be reading it and I tossed it across the room, towards the door. I picked up the next comic book and started to read it instead, hoping to get my mind off of what I had just read. The book wasn’t afraid to be graphic, REALLY graphic. I heard Gerard’s car pull up so I decided to go downstairs and greet him, since I really didn’t have much else to do except continue to sit on his bed and be the little awkward kid I was.

Gerard was carrying Mikey’s bag and Mikey was slouching down, probably ready to fall asleep. Mikey walked to his room and Gerard dragged his bag into his room, tossing it on the floor beside Mikey’s bed. I ran to Gerard’s room and launched myself onto his bed. I looked over by the door and realized I forgot to pick up the small folded paper booklet Gerard’s parents had given us. I was also too lazy to get up those few steps to pick it up so I left it there.

Gerard stepped into his room and looked on the floor beside the book. “Why is this here?” He asked.
“I got bored, wanted to see what it was about, got about one page in and tossed it onto the floor and vowed I would never read it ever again.” I simply replied.

Gerard laughed a little and seeing as it was only about four in the after noon, we probably would be having dinner soon. Around ten minutes later, I heard Donna calling for Gerard, Mikey and I to come downstairs for dinner. I went and sat down in between Gerard and Mikey and their parents sitting across from all of us.

“So Gerard, did you get the stuff from mom and dad?” Mikey said in the middle of dinner, causing me to almost spit out my dinner and Gerard to start choke on his.
“Wait you knew?” I asked, turning to him as I patted on Gerard’s back attempting to stop him from choking.
“Yeah…I’m the one who told ‘em what you were doing” Mikey replied.
“Mikes, I’m going to kill you” Gerard managed to say after he was done coughing.
“Okay, I think that’s enough” Gerard’s mom said.

The rest of dinner included Mikey receiving awkward glares from Gerard and I. After I finished I cleared my plate, thanked Gerard’s parents for dinner and Gerard and I ran back to his room, hiding out in there for the rest of the night. I’m one hundred percent sure that Mikey went back over to Ray’s because I heard the front door open and close and unless that’s Gerard’s parents going to buy us more condoms ‘just to be safe’ then its for sure Mikey.

“I was thinking about what my parents had said earlier.” Gerard said to me. out of nowhere.
“Huh?” I said as I cocked my head.
“Like how we shouldn’t show affection in public” Gerard said. “I think we sho-“
“So, you’re ashamed of me.” I said. I’m sure he was.
“No Frankie it’s not that! It’s that people aren’t always accepting!” Gerard said back grabbing my hand.
“Just give me some space please.” I called back, walking out of his room and putting my vans on at the front door.

Sure I was moody but one minute Gerard is fine and the next he doesn’t want to be seen with me in public as a boyfriend. I grabbed my jacket as I opened the door and stepped into the cool air, walking down the street until I got to a playground. It wasn’t far, I could still see Gerard’s house from it, I just needed some time to think, think if Gerard was right or if I was right. I sat down on a swing and started to swing back and forth. Pretty soon a little kid came and sat on the swing next to me.

“Hi!” She said, smiling really big.
“Hello” I replied, trying to be as friendly as possible. I remember when I was little and I was friendly, when my mom used to take me to the playground and I would talk to all the people there, feeling as friendly as I ever could.
“I’m Kaitlyn! What’s your name?” She said.
“Frank” I replied. She seemed nice, and in need of a friend, it was later in the evening like 6 maybe but there were a couple kids playing off on the other side of the playground and she was by herself.
“Where’s your friends? Are you alone?” She asked.
“I’m not alone!” I replied, grumpily.
“Then where are your friends?”

I looked around at the ground. Some of it was covered in snow and in other parts you could see the rocks that filled the playground space. I really didn’t want to answer that question but I guess I had to or else she may keep asking and asking.

“My b-bo” Oh shit am I really going to say that? “B-boyfriend and I got into a disagreement. So I needed to get away” I replied. Yep I just told a five year old I was gay.
“Boyfriend?” She asked me curiously. “But you’re a boy"
“Y-yeah” I said as I jumped off the swing and started to make my way home. Maybe for now Gerard’s opinion was right.
