The Light Behind Your Eyes
So Sick and Tired
~Gerard’s POV~
Mikey hopped into my car and started telling us that he saw Kalum and Bob there, and that they were with other people this time too.
“Way, Iero!” I heard a voice call from outside the car.
I turned to see who it was, and so did Frank. No surprise there, it was Kalum and Bob standing with more people beside them. They were all looking at us and Frank was looking completely terrified.
“Gerard!” Frank yelled. “Drive!”
That was the night I drove home as fast as I could, not caring about speed limits or stop signs, I just felt like those two guys were chasing us. When we got home there wasn’t much sign of life except for the light coming from underneath my parent’s bedroom door. Mikey walked to his own room and Frank and I went to mine, changing into pyjamas and sitting on my bed. Almost exactly after that I heard a knock on my door.
“Come in” I yelled.
“Hey, Gerard, Frank” My mom said as she stepped in. “Frank, we all love having you here but are you planning on going home anytime?”
“Um, Mrs. Way, I’m sorry but I really don’t think so.” Frank replied, looking at the floor.
“We could find you a foster home?” My mom asked
“No. No no no no no” Frank replied. “I have done that before for like two days, it’s not a good idea. Plus I’m eighteen now, remember?”
“Alright” my mom said as she stepped out of my room.
I couldn’t fall asleep that night, instead I kept myself occupied by staring at my ceiling for what seemed like forever. I was trying to process everything that happened. Why do Bob and Kalum hate Frank and I? Why don’t my parents want Frank here? Why can’t my parents accept me and Frank? I was going to move around but I didn’t want to disturb Frank, who was fast asleep, cuddling next to me, with his head rested on my chest. I shifted just a little bit.
“Gee?” He whispered.
“Hey, I’m here” I replied.
“Does your mom not like me?” he asked.
“No, it’s not that its just-“ I started.
“I knew your parents don’t like me. Nobody likes me!” Frankie said.
Frank rolled over onto his side and tried to ignore me. I tried to get him to reply to me but he refused to say a word.
“Frankie, c’mon. You know people out there like you, Ray likes you, Mikey likes you, my parents even like you.” I said.
Now Frank rolled over to look at me.
“You didn’t include yourself in that list…” Frank said, disappointed sounding.
“Frankie, thats because I love you” I said.
Frank started blushing like crazy and smiling really big. I pecked his lips for a quick second or two. “Now c’mon, lets try and sleep” I said. Frankie once again moved close to me and fell asleep. I was up for most of the night though. Nothing seemed to work for me falling asleep, even if I closed my eyes they would stay closed and sleep wouldn’t come. But eventually it did, and those where the two best hours of my day.
~
It was already December 19th and it was our last day of school before winter break officially started up. The texts from Frank’s dad have stopped. My mom and dad have already suggested four new homes for Frank, but he has refused every single one. My mom has learned to accept Frank and love him too. My dad and I have grown distant, he is always pestering me still how he doesn’t think it’s a very good idea for me to date Frankie. Well, Frank and I have been together for a little over four months, I don’t think he’s going anywhere anytime soon. Mikey hasn’t changed much, still the antisocial dork who likes to play video games, but he’s my brother and I love him. But with Bob, Kalum and all their football playing friends is a whole different story and I have to start somewhere.
In November they decided to be nice to Frank again for one week. Frank thought he had his old friends back, so he was happy and eventually more and more secrets poured out into our bullies heads. They surprisingly still don’t know that Frank and I are a thing. The only people that know are Mikey, Ray, Lyn-z and I’m very much sure my music teacher. Long story short, Frank had planted a short kiss on my lips one day and the teacher had seen.
The next week was Bob and Kalum spilling secrets. Normally I’m the last one out of the change room for gym, so this was an easy place for them to beat me up. It just started with the occasional kick to the shin but then they figured out it was easy enough for them to knock me down and kick my stomach and even my head.
So far in the time from Frank’s birthday to now, December 19th Bob, Kalum and a couple of their friends Carter and Jake have gotten suspended once. If the staff knew half the things they did, I’m guessing they’d be expelled and held back.
My beatings weren’t nearly as bad as the ones Frank has taken. Not from his dad, but from the students. Our two major problems have now joined forces with the football team, and even some volleyball players. I have only witnessed two of the beatings in which I was lying on the floor, and couldn’t move and I had to watch Frankie get punched in the face multiple times, by his ex-best friends. Frank is doing better though…I’m currently visiting him at the hospital.
