What Happens Underground, Stays Underground
Chapter 6
The figure nodded accordingly. "Of course."
He uncovered his sleeves, revealing ghostly white forearms and calloused hands. Afterwards, the man turned his back to me, only to demonstrate a small wooden box. He held it out and pushed it to my chest. "Hold this." As directed, I kept the item in my possession.
Narrowing my eyes, few prominent details could be seen. It was a small box, but far from anything mediocre. The box, a leathery brown color and tar scented, had striking symbols and pictures carved from every angle. In one image, there seemed to be a hasty dragon wearing a somewhat realistic and extremely noticeable talisman of some sort, and a knight in shining armor, to no avail, slays the confident beast. Another one had demonstrated a well dressed common man, comfortably seated in a bench most find at a neighborhood park. Strangely, the man had a shadow that was not of his own. The shadow was a creature of poor posture, thick, and horrid; demonstrating his malicious personality. It was surprisingly intriguing.
For moments, I couldn't keep my eyes off the magnificent little thing. Until the quite anonymous man interrupted my time of admiration.
" I see you've gained a liking for it," he mentioned, smirking.
" It is stunning," I admit.
The man began lecturing me, but the sounds were not audible to my ears. Five minutes passed, and my attention now faced the figure.
" Now that you know why you're here, you may open the box to reveal your own."
I decided not to question him on what he had lectured about. As long as I get what I want, then I'll do absolutely anything.
My throat becomes slightly dry. "Will I get my answers?"
