Life on the murder scene
Life on the murder scene
We were surrounded. And needless to say probably screwed. Not that I was trying to be morbid or anything its just that under the circumstances, well it happens. I was trying to calm myself as I looked from left to right. Ten no, twenty men were surrounding us and quite frankly, we were far from being prepared to fight off all of them and yet even in these circumstances the four sets of eyes that still looked familiar, still human if you will all looked at me. Waiting. Just, waiting. The sun was blazing in my face and skies were blue. If circumstances were different it would be a beautiful day. Was it weird that I was thinking about weather now? Shouldn't it be earlier to focus. It wasn’t always they looked at me like that. With some sort of hope, like I had a plan or something. But then again things weren't always like they are now either. But now standing here in the blazing hot and forgotten desert, which was once known as Nevada there was no time for nostalgia. No only a plan of action, a plan that could save all of our asses and I needed one now. But even with that being said little slivers of regret kept finding there way inside of me. Maybe it was because I knew I’d be cold and pale soon, maybe it was because I wouldn’t get to say these things. They were waiting for the call now, the call that might just be the end. The head “Peace Keeper” lifted his walkie talkie to his ear and nodded to his men. At that moment I knew it was probably too late for any last minute tricks. I let out a sigh and turned to them. I cast a look of regret at Mikey, the fire in his eyes had all but gone out at this point, he smiled feebly at me as if trying to lighten the mood but he knew as well as I did, that I was saying goodbye. I then turned to Frank, but his eyes didn’t meet mine. They were focused on Ray. I could tell from the frown that tugged on the usual plaster lips of Ray he was doing the same thing as me. I began to turn to say my final goodbye but I just couldn’t make myself meet her stare. I could feel her eyes almost burning into my head but I just couldn’t say goodbye. Not to her. Because I knew if I looked at her I would break and I couldn’t do that right now. I needed to stay calm for the rest of them, especially her. So I continued to look away and turned to the Head Peace Maker instead and smiled brilliantly. Because life used to be so much happier than this, so much brighter. And when they broadcast how the Kill Joys have finally been brought to justice I hope they remember that smile because I will be remembered for my last words. B “Lady, Gentlemen. It’s been an honor.” And thats when I heard the first shot. - May fourth, 2017 We were in. Holy fucking shit we did it. After three months of tracking, and little slips of information we got in and from the grin on Frank’s face he was as excited as I was. Now all that stood in between the weapons and us were a steel grey door with the three yellow dots made into the shape of a triangle. It was almost to easy actually. All we had to do was get rid of a few guards here and there and watch our asses for the cameras. Other than that it’s been a pretty safe ride getting in. Frank looked at me then nodded as he began to tap in the code Death Defy had mentioned. I think it went 2934 but I always got them confused. I would have to ask Frank later, not that it would matter though. They change it twice a day. I held my breath in as he moved his hand away, expecting some flashing red light to go off at any second. This was alot different than just taking out a few guards hear and there on the streets. But then again they usually don’t steal my brothers prototypes so you know things change. Despite my thoughts the door opened slowly. I sighed gratefully. We slipped into the room. It was surprisingly not as menacing as I thought it be. Infact I was a little disappointed. The walls were a plain off white that screamed boring. I expected that if they were going to have a secret lair it’d at least be, ya know... Cool? But the room seemed to be empty so maybe there’d be at least some type of secret button to push or somethin- “W.Who are you..?” Whispered a small voice behind us. Frank met my eyes as we slowly turned around. Shit. We were supposed to be watching our backs! The door was still open by the time I saw her but she still came that close to us without being noticed. She was a bit shorter than I was and looked well.. Normal. Well not normal. She didn’t have the menacing look most of the other guards had set into there eyes she actually looked, afraid. I heard a small snicker from beside me, a snicker that quickly turned into a full blown laugh. I turned to Frank and glared. Was he trying to get us killed??? “Dude..” He said between giggles. “They set a chick to get us?” The skinny girl began to blush a bit and I couldn’t help but agree. Her shoulder length snow white blonde hair and lacy white dress didn’t exactly scream “Threat!” But more so “I’m going to pick flowers after attending sunday mass.” Which didn’t exactly happen anymore either but whatever. But even if she wasn’t exactly public enemy number one she did see our faces. And after about a minute or so Frank had realized this as well. I could tell because his face went pale. I looked back at the confused girl and smiled my most convincingly friendly smile I could muster up. “I’m Ian. And this is William. Now who are you? You don’t really seem like the others who work here.” She just looked at me for a moment then answered. The look in her eyes seemed familiar, child like almost. I could tell from that that she had believed me. “Ella. But you're not supposed to be in here... Daddy says no ones supposed to be in here right now actually. Are you lost or something?” “Um... Yes actually. Were both new. And not really familiar with this building yet, or really anyone so would you mind explaining who ‘Daddy’ is?” I said calmly. Frank hadn’t said anything else so far and that was good. He wasn’t the best liar and apparently he was beginning to understand that now. The far off daze in her eyes seemed to immediately come to focus but I didnt take much notice. “He’s just some secretary I think. But it’s kinda a big rule though so everyone knows it. Well, except for the newbies apparently. So you should really get out of here. Maybe I can show you too where you need to be?” She said meekly looking from us to outside of the door. As if to see if anyone was coming. “Oh. Um that’d be great. Right.. Will?” She smiled not seeming to notice the worried look on frank’s face Frank forced his lips to curl into a slight smile. “Ge- I mean Incase you haven’t noticed this chick has seen us.” He whispered softly . “And when the higher ups find out that theres no one named Ian and Will they will hunt us down.... I nodded slowly and murmured out of the side of my mouth. “So what do we do then?” He didn’t answer before taking the gun out of his belt loop, pointing it directly at Ella, his finger gently grazing the trigger. “Now.. Ella, was it?” She nodded. “I’m assuming you know what this is right. Ella’s eyes widened slightly as she realized assumingly what was going on. “Y.Yes... you're not really lost... And you're going to kill me. Correct?” Before Frank could answer I cut him off. “No. We need to keep her. Think about it. She’s obviously just a kid and she’s hear so that outa mean she’s someones right?” Frank smiled a bit then nodded, moving closer to Ella. His smile had a hint of danger that I couldn’t usually pull off. One that said don’t fuck with me. “He’s right. Now you're going to be completely silent while we get out. If you don’t then we will kill you. Understand?” Ella looked from Frank to myself, giving me a pleading look almost then gulped. She was tugging at her pale pink lips with her teeth in what I assumed was a habit. A very familiar one at that. “Yes.”
