An Urgent Need for Ruin (Full-length Novel Version)

Summary

Toni is a self-proclaimed mute living a contentedly mediocre life in small-town Louisiana. But Fate has now thrown unremembered childhood days into the mix and screwed with everything. Frank Gautier has a lot to teach Toni and an unexpectedly short time to do so. She soon learns that not every story expires when its subject does.
(This is the novel-length version of my short story. And though unlike it, I suggest you read that first. An Urgent Need for Ruin (Short Story))

Characters

'Liz'bet' "Betty" Devereaux

'Liz'bet' "Betty" Devereaux

Strong-willed no nonsense Cajun woman with a mouth like a hurricane. Toni's mother and the catalyst of Frank and Toni's shaky acquaintanceship. (And yes, for those of you who watch it, this IS Liz from Swamp People, who Betty is based off of.)

Arnold Devereaux

Arnold Devereaux

Painfully incapable of conversation beyond small talk. But that's okay, because his wife usually makes up for it with her constant word-storm. Toni's father, and thankfully not the embarrassing kind. (And yes, I used Ray Liotta. Because 1, it's Ray freakin' Liotta. And 2, he looks a lot like my Uncle Randy in this picture, which is who Arnold is based off of.)

Francis "Frank" Gauthier

Francis "Frank" Gauthier

Mysterious, but not in the sexy way. In fact in the uninteresting and, honestly, creepy way. He has a lot to hide, it seems, and no intent to share. But Toni doesn't have to worry, because his remarkable story collides with hers when least expected possible.

Jordan Devereaux

Jordan Devereaux

Near-hermit. Always bored when not shut up in his room reading comics or playing video games. Rarely ever emerges from his room except to go to the bathroom or ask for another soda. (And yes, the picture is Corey Feldman in Lost Boys talking about comics. XD )

Toni Devereaux

Toni Devereaux

Self-proclaimed mute with no particular reason to be. She's content to live her life story out in the least exhausting way possible. This includes no social contact as no one understands her need to never open her lips without emergency reason.

Chapters

  1. Prologue: The End Is the Beginning

"The book doesn't end after the surprise twist: that is when the book truly begins."

  2. The One When Toni Rambles

"Most kids had some traumatic and sympathy-inducing reason they swore themselves to silence, but my only reason was the opinion that it wasn’t worth wasting my oxygen on."

  3. The One with Kamikaze Garbage

"The shower still hammered on indifferently and the shampoo I had just lathered up ran down my forehead to sit in my eye, which I'd probably regret for the next few minutes. I was frozen in place, fingers still tangled in my blonde mane as the world kept moving."

  4. The One with Effective Time Lapse.

"This went on for the next three years. I kid you not, years. Freshman, sophomore, and junior years."

  5. The One When Crap Hits the Fan.

"I feel it beneficial to tell you I'm currently in my late twenties while writing this. I look back on these adolescent years and realize what a snob I was and a poor judge of character (even though, in my defense, Frank continued to have that creepy aura the whole rest of his life.) "

  6. The One with Ultra-deep Thoughts.

"We all like to think in some life-or-death situation we'd be the noble main character, but maybe we're all just the extras that are picked off one by one. Maybe we're all just cowards."

  7. Chapter Six, Part One

The one that took far too long to write and is far too long to post.

  8. If you want to know what a Cajun accent sounds like...

The one where I show you a video of awesome Cajun cooking.

  9. Chapter Six, Part Two

The one that took far too long to write and is far too long to post.

Yes, lack of eye candy! This Ray Toro clone is like totally gay so like im kind of stuck with hoping a frank or gerard spawn comes to my school. It's kinda ironic how I don't know one kid named frank but, I know like 4 people named frankie. Yes, that is their name..not a nickname.
but, Toro taxes?? Wtf what town is this in?! Who even..I'm dead. Oh well, their is a 'Mikey and shays' restaurant in our town...and my dads name is Michael and my sisters is shaylah...
oh, and hell yes! Every time I hear a freaking piano note I am instantly waiting for black parade to play. It's such a miracle it came on the radio last night though cause all that channel I have to listen to plays is pop-shit.

@tatethecake
Lack of eye candy? You have a Ray-freakin'-Toro clone. Lucky. The closest we have to Ray over here is a place called Toro Taxes. My lil bro constantly makes jokes about an accountant fro.
My head shoots up every time I hear a single piano note. They have us conditioned.

I'm listening to the radio and the black parade is on...
am I allowed to cry? This is a miracle.

Ha! Gee-across-the-street! I wanna know what who this 'creep' is. Oh! There is this kid Wyatt in my drama class who looks exactly like Ray Toro and I call him my ray-of-sunshine. The thing is he knows exactly who I am comparing him to and he just laughs every Time. Why can't there be any frank and Gerard spawns at my school? *cries from lack of eyecandy*

@tatethecake
PFFFT! I know, right?
Their interactions are partially based off everything that's happened between me and "Gee-across-the-street," who is gorgeous but creepy.
