The Light Behind Your Eyes
In A Place Where We Don't Have A Prayer prt. 1
After sleeping for several hours, I was awaken by Bob who was shaking my body. "Frank! Wake up, it's time to go!"
I brought my head up from my pillow. My cheeks were a little swollen from crying the night before. My hair was probably sticking up in every direction possible and I felt my eyes shut after a second of opening them. I gave Bob a weak smile and threw my head back into my pillow. "I don't wanna get up." I muttered into my pillow.
"What?" Bob asked. He probably couldn't hear me.
I lifted my head up again and spoke. "I don't wanna get up!"
"Too bad. You dragged me here. Now there's no stoping me." He said firmly. "Now get up."
I sighed into the pillow and slowly emerged from my hotel bed. I got dressed and packed my things. I saw Patrick's number on the note pad on the bedside table. "We have to call him." I said aloud.
Bob snapped his head in my direction. "Who?"
I realized I forgot to tell Bob about Patrick and Pete. "Patrick Stump. He says he knows about Gerard. They met him a couple days ago."
"They?"
I looked up at him, annoyed even though it wasn't his fault. "Patrick, his partner Pete and their daughter Monroe."
I didn't say anything more and neither than Bob. After about five minuets, he piped up again. "How do you know they're good?"
I looked at him shocked. "Why would they lie?"
"Helena's got her ways, Frank. She can mess with your head until-"
"Bob, Monroe had a feather. She said Gerard gave it to her. They're trustworthy." I tried really hard to not let the disappointment show. I failed. His face fell in a sympathetic way.
"I'm sorry I doubted you. You can't trust a lot of people in-"
"I know. Can we just call him?" I said, annoyed and emotionally drained. Bob nodded and we proceeded to call. After five minuets of listening to the phone ring, he picked up.
"Hello?" He said in a sleepy tone.
"Patrick, it's Frank. Did I wake you?"
"No no, I guess I fell back asleep with Monroe. Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, Bob and I where about to leave when I thought I should call. Are you up for helping us?"
"Yeah, of course. Like I said. We would love to help."
"Great. So where should we meet up?"
"Um, how about the mini mart parking lot. Where we first met you?"
"Okay. Great."
"I'll just get Monroe and Pete up and we'll be there."
"Okay. Thank you Patrick." I said softly.
"Don't worry about it." I could tell he was smiling as he spoke. After I was done, Bob and I left the hotel. We went to the diner to grab a quick breakfast and then went to the mini mart. Patrick was in the car waiting and Pete was walking back to the car with a bag in his hand. I introduced them all to Bob who was too shy to even say hi. All he did was wave.
"So, where do we go?" Asked Patrick. I looked at Bob who nodded his head north.
"North. If he was headed south when you left him, then he must be north." I said firmly. Patrick nodded and started the car. I looked down to see Monroe, laying her little head on my arm. It was pretty early in the morning as I let her sleep a little longer, thinking if we were in each others places, she would do the same.
