The Light Behind Your Eyes

My Way Home Is Through You

"Nice to meet you, sweetie. But do I know you?" I asked as I looked into her beautiful, innocent eye. She looked at me in amazement as I responded.
"No, you don't know me, but I know you!" She jumped as she squeezed my knees.
"Monroe! Why are hugging..." I looked up to see a young man in glasses and a black fedora. He had strawberry blonde hair like Bob and dark eyes. His jaw dropped when he saw my face.
"Frank?" He said under his breath.
"Yeah? That's me, but who are you?" I asked again, having no idea who these people were and how they knew me.
The man shook his head, clearing his thoughts. "I'm Patrick." He said smiling slightly and shaking my hand.
"Who's this?" Another man came up behind Patrick, snaking his arm around Patrick's. Patrick then leaned into his ear and whispered something. The man's eyes widened as he spoke. "Really?" He asked. Patrick nodded and looked back at me. "I'm Pete." The man said shaking my hand.
"It's really nice to meet you guys, but can someone please tell me how you all know me?" I pleaded in confusion.

The two men brought the girl closer to them, pulling her off me legs. They exchanged hesitated looks and then looked down at the girl. "Heh hem" I said, trying not to be rude but eager for answer.
"Well, It's kind of a long story, Frank. Are you staying somewhere?" Patrick asked.
"Yeah, It's like a block away."
He smiled and nodded. "Lead the way. We'll explain there."

When we go to my room, Bob was thankfully still sleeping. I knew the Halos would knock him out. "Who's that?" Monroe asked as we entered.
"He's a... Friend of mine. He's helping me find someone."
"That's why were here." Pete piped in. I shot him a confused look. He smiled and rubbed his hands nervously. "Frank," he started, "We know Gerard."
"You what?" I asked, in even more confusion.
"We know Gerard. We know he's looking for you. We found him on the side of the road near Reno. He fainted from the sun and we offered to take him to you. Then he was gone in the morning. We left him in the last town from here."
"He left me this feather!" Monroe said happily as she held the black feather up and waved it in my face.
I stared at the feather. He really did have wings. I felt tears in my eyes as I brushed my fingers against the black silk as thoughts of Gerard slipped into my head. I looked up at her as she stared at me. I gave her a weak smile. "You better take good care of that. It will help you when you need it."
Her face gleamed as I spoke. A wide grin grew upon her face and she jumped and squeezed my frail body. She looked up at me, "I will, I promise." She smiled again and winked at me. She then mouthed "I know." to me, pointing to the feather again. I smiled and nodded.
"We should probably go." Patrick chimed. He went to the bedside table and ripped a piece of paper from the notebook. He scribbled on the paper and handed it to me. "Call us in the morning. We'll help you find him." He smiled.
"Thank you." I sighed as a tear escaped from my eye. He nodded and left with Pete and Monroe. She hugged me tightly before she left and stared as she walked out the door. She waved good bye and I did the same. Before I knew it, she was gone. I felt like I needed her with me for some reason. Like something bad was going to happen. Like I needed to protect her from whatever was coming her way.

I was distracted by my feelings when I heard Bob stir. I realized I was on his bed and quickly jumped back onto mine. He rolled over and rubbed his eye. He moaned sleepily as he threw his head into his pillow. He then shot his head up when he realized we weren't at Better Livings anymore.
"Frank. Where-"
I shook my head with a smirk on my face. "I'm not telling."
"How did we-"
"Bob. I'm not telling you anything until you eat something I got from the store." He looked at me with angered eyes. I pulled out an apple. He licked his lips in temptation but was hesitant about taking it. I gestured from him to take it and after a min of contemplating, he took it. As he slowly bit into it, his face was relaxed as the natural juices, seeped from the apple and into his mouth. He moaned happily as he chewed.
"Is it good?" I asked.
He nodded as he chewed. Showing off a small smile.
"Good." I laid back on my bed with both hands on the back of my neck. "Well, I'm really tired from walking so I think I'm gonna-"
"No no no no no no no, Frank" He said, swallowing the last bit of apple that was left. "You've got explaining to do." He said as he glared. I sighed and sat up.

And that's what I did. I explained how I broke up the two Halos, Helena gave me, and mixed them in with the water that I gave him from before we fell asleep. I knew he was weak enough to not fight it until it wore off. He wouldn't have any nightmares because Helena wouldn't bother him. I told him about how we escaped and how light he was. I told him how I walked the whole time. How I walked miles without stopping.
"Why did you bring me here?" He asked me as he rubbed his face, pulling the skin around his eyes, making them look droopy and showing the inside of his lids. He was angry. "I told you not to bring me."
"But I-"
"I told you to leave me there."
"If you-"
"I told you not to leave and wait for him, Frank" He sighed in a deep tone. He was definitely angry. "Frank." He glared.
I sighed as I looked at him. "I needed you to come with me. I needed you to help me find Gerard. You are my only hope, Bob. You were my last resort. I wasn't going to survive without you." I looked up and saw his fell was more sympathetic. It made me emotional when the thought of not finding him popped into my mind.
He closed his eyes as he spoke. "Give me some more food and go to sleep. We're leaving tomorrow."

I nodded as I gave a weak, tired smile. I didn't know if it was convincing, not that I was lying, but it seemed like it worked. Bob was my last resort. Yeah I knew Gerard could sense every feeling in my body, but Bob was the only one who could sense him. I needed to know how to find him. I needed to find him period. I knew he was coming for me too. The thought of it brought tears to my eyes again. The beads of happiness trailed from my eyes and sliced through my skin as I closed my eyes.
"I'm coming for you, Gerard" I thought as I laid.
"I know, Iero. I know."
