The Light Behind Your Eyes

Kill What Tomorrow Brings

I was going to do it. We were going to do it. Bob and I were going to escape from Better Livings. Bob could go back to the middle, and I would be with Gerard. I was excited to actually go threw with it. Thoughts and plans seeped into my mind, but eventually discarded whenever I thought of him.

As Bob and I talked more, I had more knowledge about the Angels than I had before, and Bob. "How long did it take you to realize you were brainwashed?" I asked.
"About a month? I didn't take me long."
"So have you been acting like you have?"
He shook his head. "They know.."
"Why didn't they kill you?" I said, trying not sound too mean.
He sighed. "They like torching me. I mean, obviously. When I finally realized I was brainwashed, it was too late. I was too weak and couldn't fight back. They've been keeping me like this for almost four months."
I felt my eyes water in sympathy. "I'm sorry Bob." I looked at him again. You could see how painful it was for him. "We're getting out of here. I promise."
He sighed in, what sounded like, disbelieve and nodded slowly.

Hours later, Helena came into my room. "Frank, it's time for your Halo." She handed me two pills and a cup of water.
"Two? Why Two?" I asked
She looked at me, her grey eyes piercing my soul and slightly chocking it. "Because I said so. Now take them." She turned around to get something. I put the pills under my body and threw back the water quickly. When she turned around, I flashed her a smile and made her give me a quick, small smile, that looked extremely uncomfortable. She took the cup and patted my head.
"Good boy, now sleep. I'll be back in the morning to check on you." She turned and walked to the door. "And Frank," She paused as she grabbed the handle, "if I find that you're gone, I'll find you. And Gerard." She chuckled and left.

I waited a couple minuets before sitting back up and turning to Bob, who's face was still frozen in the direction Helena stood. He started shaking his head. "We can't do this, Frank. She's gunna kill you and Gerard."
"You need help, Bob. We are doing this." I said sternly.
"No." He started. "I don't care about my need. You are not taking me out of here, just to get yourself killed. You're not leaving and that's that."
"You're going to die Bo-"
"I don't care. Besides, its going to happen either way.."
I began to feel rage, course through my body. I wasn't going to let him die here. Anywhere but here. Then I came up with a plan.

Bob started to cough again. I cleaned up the blood from his face. I got him a cup of water and gave it to him. A few minutes later, we both fell asleep. I made sure I blocked everything out, even Gerard. I would explain later when I found him.

I woke up an hour or so later. Thankfully Bob was still sleeping. I knew he would be but that's besides the point. I got up and checked to see if anyone was in the halls. Bob shuffled and mumbled in his sleep. I went over to the window. I disconnected the censor next to it, just in case and open it, feeling fresh breezes, sweep across my body. I took it in for a minuet and then turned around at Bob. I went to his bedside and hesitated. I moved past the hesitation and picked him up. He was just as light as I thought he would be. I walked back to the window and stood on the ledge. With my luck, we weren't too far from the ground, ten feet at the most. Then, as I inhaled, sweet fresh air, I jumped with Bob in my arms.

I landed on my back, Bob laying in my lap. I smiled as I saw the window flung open, and the pinkish purple pastel sky. I started to laugh. I laughed so hard it stung. I knew escaping would be easy. Finding Gerard and surviving would be the harder part. I sat up and picked up Bob again. I took a deep breath and started walking.

After a few hours of walking, I started to become dizzy and tired. Bob wasn't even close to waking up. As I walked, cars flew by. Some gave stares, mostly children. Wouldn't you stare if you saw a 16 year old, 4'9" boy carrying a twenty something year old man with a full on beard, walking across the highway?

When we finally came to a town, I was in search of a motel. I eventually found one and dragged myself to the room. I laid Bob on the second bed and left to get food.

I walked until I found a small super market. I grabbed frozen meals and paid. I was walking out of the super market when I heard a gasp behind me. "Frank?"
I turned around to find a little girl with dirty blonde hair and bluish greenish eyes. Her face was innocent and sweet looking. Her face was blank as a black feather appeared in her hand. "My name is Monroe."
