The Light Behind Your Eyes
The Angels come Screaming Down
Gerard left me breathing heavy and drowning in sweat. His lips lingered on mine and goosebumps covered my body. He made me feel good for once in last few weeks and he definitely made his mark. I shot up from my bed when I heard rustling next to me. I took another look around my room and I saw a curtain that dissected the room. I hadn't noticed it before, probably because it was dark when I saw Gerard last night.
The rustling continued for awhile. A hoarse groan appeared out of nowhere and it startled me. "Hello?" I asked softly. The rustling stopped and a sigh escaped from the beings lips. "Hello? Are you okay?" I moved slowly to the curtain, brushing against the fabric. They let out a deadly cough and shuffled in their bed.
In all the fear and contemplation I had about opening the curtain, I did it anyway. I must have scared them because when I did, they were in fetal position, blankets covering their whole body. I looked up and envy grew as I saw that they had the windows. I walked to the window, ignoring the person, and could feel the warm rays, hit my face. I smiled and thought of my mom. I embraced every second of the warm kisses against my skin, accepting her death, a little bit at time.
I heard a murmur sneak into my thoughts and quickly turned my head and scanned the room. "What?"
"I said I'm sorry.." I looked down at the bed again. The person had sat up and removed the blankets from its face. His face was sunken in and he had purple circles around his eyes. Not the kind from getting punched, but from being an insomniac. He looked older than he sounded and his body was skinny and fragile looking. It looked like he hadn't eaten in days. His strawberry blonde hair, hung slightly over his face, making him look even paler than I bet he actually was. He looked like death.
His eyes met mine and he quickly shot his head back down. "I'm sorry.." he whispered.
"Why?" I asked.
He looked at me again and brought his head back down, rubbing and gripping the blankets around him tightly. "I took your spot.."
I shook my head. "It's okay. I just didn't expect anyone would be sharing with me." I said rubbing the back of my neck, feeling guilty for being angry.
"No one ever does..." He said softly, looking at me.
I sat on the couch that was next to the window. Nothing was said for about five minuets. I was trying to process what was going on. Did Helena do this to him? Does he have his own angel? His own demon?
"No..." He said, shaking his head. I shot my head up as he spoke. "I'm an Angel."
"Are you a Fallen Angel?" I asked. He nodded as he coughed. Little spews of blood came as he coughed. I rushed to him but was stopped when he put his hand up.
"I'm okay... I just..." He coughed again. "I'm Bob.."
"I'm Frank.." I said, sitting back down on the couch, feeling the sun hit my back again. "Why are you here?"
"A demon caught me...Obviously." He said, rolling his eyes at himself. "They brainwashed me before I got here and told me that something was wrong with me." He sighed. "They made me forget who I was and what I was."
"I'm sorry Bob.. I-"
"It's fine Frank.." He coughed again and laid back in his bed. He turned his head towards me. He gave a slight chuckle and faced forward again.
"What?" I asked.
"He's coming, Frank.." He said giving a sheepish smile.
"Who?"
"Gerard." He said simply. The way he said it made him actually sound normal and not as weak.
"How do you know-"
"Gerard was my best friend in the Middle, before I had to leave."
I was really confused on what was going on. Yes. I knew Gerard was Angel. Yes. I knew about the Middle. I knew about Helena and how it works up there, but what I couldn't comprehend, was how much Bob already knew about me. That he knew Gerard was my Angel.
"Once he was sent down, we actually lived together. When an Angel is sent down, they have to find another angle to live with. Basically like a buddy system. Damn, we had some good times." He smiled as he reminisced over memories.
He coughed again. More blood came out this time. "You're dying.." I sighed as I was denied of helping him again. "You need hel-"
"No I don't!" He snapped, whipping the blood from his pale lips, making them look more normal. "I don't need anyone's help. I got myself in this mess, and I can clean it, by myself."
My facial expression must had made him change his mode. "I'm sorry, Frank. I didn't mean to-"
"Bob, I get it."
He coughed again. Blood seeped from his mouth as he heaved in and out. "I'm getting help." I panicked.
"No, please don't, Frank!" He wheezed. "They'll just kill me.."
My heat sank as he looked at me, eyes blurred and cheeks redden. I walked over and sat on his bed. "I won't let them kill you, Bob."
"I'm going to die either way..." He sighed.
I shook my head. "No, we're getting out of here."
His head shot up. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, you and I are escaping from here, tonight."
