Let Me Teach You A Thing Or Two
Finally Chapter Five
I run out of Mr. Iero's room and towards my locker. I slam my back against my locker and hug my note book. Holy shit. I just sang in front of people. Whoa. Like I JUST SANG IN FRONT OF PEOPLE. I liked it too. The thrill of my heart pounding and the applause after it all. Wowie. A smile forms on my face, I comb my hand threw my hand then head down the hall and up the stairs to my next class. I need lunch to come sooner rather than later.
Seventh period finally rolls around, I jog over to my locker and I feel a tap on my back. I turn around to see Jada.
"Oh hey," I greet her with a smile.
"Hey," she replies shyly.
"What do you have this period?" I ask her as I turn to open my locker, she walks over to my side so she can see me.
"Lunch. What about you?"
"Weird. I also have it now."
"Oh ca-"
"WAY!" someone shouts, I turn my head to look down the hall to see Ray with Mikey.
"Sup Toro," I laugh and lift up my hand to give a slight wave. Jada turns her head to see Ray, her hair gets in my face and I start to swat at it in a way she wouldn't notice. Ray and Mikey start bursting out laughing.
"What's so funny?" Jada asks confused. She looks back at me and I go back to the way I was before she turned around to make it look like nothing.
"I have no clue," I grab my lunch and a notebook. I slam my locker, Ray opens his to grab his lunch when Bob sneaks up behind him. He slowly walks closer when he finally gets to the place he wants to be at he whispers, "Boo."
"Nice try Bob. Not going to work this time," Ray states in a monotone voice.
"Fuck, you are no fun," Bob says as he unlocks his locker, grabs what he needs then starts walking down the hall in the direction to our hang out area. I jog to catch up to him, when I do I begin to walk backwards.
"You coming Jada?"
"Uh… Yeah!" She shouts from down the hall and begins to run to catch up.
"Did you bring the cigs?" I ask Bob nonchalantly.
"Course," Bob response.
"So where is it we're going?" Jada asks.
"The dug out, we have been going to this place since freshman year, no one has caught us yet." I explain. We get to the door and act like nothing is going on as we sneak out then slip under the fence to the baseball dug out. Behind it is a hole but it's big enough to hide people and just chill. It's all grass so our clothes don't get dirty. I sit down and slowly slide into the back, thats my spot. Bob leans against the backboard of the dug out and crosses his legs, bob likes being in the sun when its out.
"C'mon, no need to be shy," I joke with Jada.
"Uh… I don't know where to sit," Jada replies shyly and stands there awkwardly.
"Well, if you want you can sit on my lap. We don't care where you sit but just don't stand, people will see you."
"Oh, shit sorry." She sits on the edge of the whole letting her legs dangle and the right side of her body leans again the on the back board.
"No need to apologize, well now thats your spot."
"My… spot?"
"Yeah you are one of us now." I smile.
"Oh." A smile forms on her face and so does a little blush as she looks away from me to Bob.
"Hey Bob I need a ciggy, hit me up," I told Bob as I hold out my hand. He pass me one and a lighter. Jada giggles and I look over at her to see what was so funny.
"Ciggy?" She giggles. I chuckle.
"Yeah, well cigarette is too boring to say so we just a cig or ciggy. I don't know we're weird people," I explain as I see Ray and Mikey walk up to the pit, "Well look what the wind blew in!" I chuckle and light up the cigarette and blow smoke out of my mouth.
"Hey Gee," Mikey says as he sits down across from me in the hole. Ray pops a squat next to Jada, blush forms on both of their cheeks. Cute. They need to go out. It's really cute. And they just met. Wow I'm getting feels. Ew I sound like a 16 year old girl.
"Hey, I'm Mikey and you are?" Mikey acknowledges Jada by looking up at her and smiling, which is rare.
"Oh.. uh, Jada, Jada Jarvis," she blushes.
"I'm Ray, Ray Toro," he teases as he holds out his hand and she shakes it," so what year are you? Freshy?"
"Ew. No. Junior. I moved from New York," Jada replies.
"New York, eh? I love it there, wish I could live there,” I state as I blow out smoke from the side of my mouth. I look over at Jada to see her waving the smoke away from her face as if it was a bee, “oh shit, I’m sorry! Does the smoke bother you?”
“A little but I can deal.”
“Okay, cool.”
Bob pulls out a paper bag and pulls out his sandwich, I lean over to see what it was. It’s peanut butter and jelly. Favorite type of sandwich hands down. Ray is talking to Jada about music and Mikey is just eating leaning back letting the sun sink in. See we are both so fucking pale, so getting tan is very hard without getting burnt. I finish my cigarette then begin eating my lunch. So now its the five of us against the world. I pull out a sharpie and search for our names on a piece of wood under the dugout. Freshman year the three of us made a pack. Then Mikey came along so we wrote his name, now it’s Jada’s turn.
“Gee what are you doing?” Someone asked, I’m guessing Ray.
“Writing Jada’s name on the piece of wood.”
“Oh no way!” Mikey exclaims, I look up to see him looking at her, “That means you are definitely one of us now!”
“Welcome to the Pity Club,” Bob says sarcastically.
“Oh come on we aren’t like that,” Ray speaks up.
“Yeah, negative Nancy,” Mikey says as he sticks out his tongue.
“More like the Breakfast Club,” I speak up as I begin to write her name.
“Awe, thank you guys,” Jada gushes.
“It’s no biggie, really,” Ray replies.
I finish writing, cap the marker, and scoot out of the ditch. I stand up and stretch, everything is so tight. Mikey got up so I can get out, I walk up behind Jada and help her up then Ray. Mikey and Bob were beginning to head back. Ray and I look at each other then begin to walk with Jada in between us. I head to my locker, bid my farewell and head off to eighth period. My last period, I should say.
Notes
