To the End
Give Me All Your Hopeless Thoughts
Frank and Gerard sat down and leaned against the half-wall protecting them from the river below. Frank stole quick glances from Gerard all night long, smirking every time he did. He’s just… He’s just perfect… Frank thought, too tired to mentally argue with himself for finding Gerard attractive. The two were silent, but the silence between them was far from awkward. It was a silence in which neither felt they had to say anything, nor did they have anything to say. Gerard had been a wreck, but something about Frank just being there with him seemed to calm him.
“Frank…?” Gerard said quietly
“Yeah, Gee? Er… Is it okay if I call you that..?” He asked, turning his head to fully look at Gerard.
“Oh, I mean if you want to then go ahead. I don’t mind who calls me that. I like it…”
“Well, good to know then. So what did you want?”
“I was wondering if maybe tomorrow you wanna cut school again and come hang out with me somewhere.” Gerard smiled lightly at him, biting on his bottom lip gently.
“Sounds waaay better than sitting through school. I would love to cut with you. Where are we gonna go?”
“Well there’s this one bar-ish type thing that I like going to a lot. Do you drink?”
Frank shook his head, suddenly feeling like Gerard was judging him silently. “No, sorry. Never even had a taste of alcohol.”
“Oh, well that’s fine. We can change that tomorrow.” He smiled and winked at Frank, making Frank dig his nails into his thigh to keep from letting out an awkward, high pitched, squeal of excitement. Luckily for him, Gerard looked down at his phone just as the blood rushed to Frank’s cheeks. “…Hey, sorry but, I think I have to go. Mikey’s been texting me like crazy and I think I should probably get home before he dies of worry.” He said as he got up, getting ready to leave.
“W-wait, Gee…” Frank said, grabbing his hand quickly. “Two things… Um… Well, first, I would like to quickly help you…” he said, reaching into the pocket of his hoodie and pulling out a roll of gauze and motioning to Gerard’s wrist.
“Why do you have…“ Gerard asked as he pulled up his sleeves, showing his wrists which were still oozing blood.
“Every cutter needs it.” Frank said emotionlessly as he covered Gerard’s arms with bandage.
“So you c-“
“Yeah, it’s sort of an addiction.” Frank cut him off. He would have never even mentioned his cutting if it was anyone else, but he just felt like he could open up to Gerard. He felt like he had known him forever.
“S-so…” Gerard said awkwardly after Frank had finished. “What was the second thing..?”
“Oh, um…” Frank stared at nothing, trying to remember what he was going to say. “…Oh yeah! I uh… I just wanted to say that well… If you ever need anyone to talk to about, well, anything, you can always talk to me… I think I know what you’re going through…. More or less, at least.”
Gerard smiled at him “Thanks, Frank. That… means a lot, actually.” Gerard waved and started to walk away.
“You know, Lyn-Z was really lucky to have be dating someone like you. It’s her loss, not yours.” Frank said to Gerard, immediately taking it back once he said it. Gerard didn’t turn around or indicate that he had heard what Frank said, though as he walked home, on a path he never thought he’d walk on after he had come here, he smiled even wider.
Frank walked home and flopped down in his bed. Shit… Why the fuck can’t he be a girl or something… I bet he’s not even bi. I’m fucking falling for a guy who’s fucking straight. Frank sighed, though no matter how much he reminded himself Gerard would never feel the same way, he couldn’t ignore the feeling of excitement that was building up in his stomach.
