We Got Innocence For Days!
I Know A Thing About Contrition
Mikey's POV
I sit quietly in the waiting room, unable to remove my soggy fingertips from Gerard's photo. I look deeply into his facial expression, his hazel eyes widened and his smile as mischievous as always(even with his small phases of regret). He had his hair slicked back for this photo, but had no intention of demonstrating a rather fancy pose. Instead, he had his fingers locked and his arms behind his neck, relaxing. Gerard never took things seriously, for him, everything was a joke. Even life itself.
A nurse walks up to me and smiles. "Are you Gerard's brother?"
"Yes," my voice croaked.
"I'm so sorry," she replied. "His cancer....it came back."
My eyes filled with tears, my lips trembling. I sniffed and waved my hand to dismiss her.
"C-can I speak to him?"
"Right this way," she led me to Gerard's room. There he was, grinning as usual.
"Mikes, come here!" he laughed in the hospital bed. "I haven't seen you in forever!"
"Hi, Gerard," I smiled, the dry tears burning my cheeks.
"Look, I have a good feeling about this. Seven's a charm!"
I chuckled grimly. This was his seventh time diagnosed with cancer, and he'd survived the last six. I hope he was right.
"So, how's the treatment?"
"So so. I just really wanna get off this gurney and on the stage," he remarked, giggling.
My brother had that dream. To sing for a live audience.
"Do you need anything?" I questioned.
"A boyfriend," he laughed. "And I'll get myself one after all the treatments."
I didn't see how he could look at the bight side of all this. "Are you sure you don't need anything?"
"Merp. I really need to start writing and drawing...and I need to look sophisticated. Get me a bible, it makes people look like lawyers."
"On it," I laughed before exiting the room and sobbing. I took his request and headed home to pick up a small bible.
