We Lit The Fire And It's Burning Bright
Chapter 30
Temper's POV
I didn't think Gerard would stoop this low, to harming himself. I placed my hand on Frank's shoulder. "Calm down," I whisper.
I look up to Gerard drowsily. "Why were you sharpening your pencil?"
"...Cause I like to draw."
"At this time of day?"
"...The night inspires me."
"Uh huh," I say, unconvinced. "How come you said you can't afford a pencil sharpener?"
"Why did you think I even covered at the comic store for that day? I was in desperate need for the cash."
Frank coughed. "You told me the other day that you weren't okay," he brought up again.
"As in I'm not...." He neatly pulled at his own shirt to pass time. "...healthy."
"AIDs?" Frank questioned.
Gerard blushed. "Um...no. I...uh...smoking. Increases risk...for...cancer. My grandma Helena...she....uh....died...of cancer."
I decided not to mention what happened in the Way home the other day. Frank walked into another room and pulled out a small object, handing it to Gerard.
A pencil sharpener.
"I got a bunch of these," Frank said. "And I'd like a good friend like you to have one, too."
