You're Never Just A 'Nobody'
Chapter 21.
I found where id be staying for the next 5 days. The bedroom has a desk in one corner with a wheely chair, and small wooden bed in another corner and a built in wardrobe. Simple layout and coloring.
I hung my clothes in the wardrobe and placed my pjs, underwear and bras in the drawer next to the bed. It was about 2:00 in the afternoon, too early to act tired and fall asleep. I make myself at him around the room, fumbling and cleaning some parts of it.
I'm stopped when someone knocks at the door. Entering without me saying anything is Gerard,
"Mikey and my dad are here, if you'd like to meet them" Gerard offers. I have nothing else to do so I agree. We make our way down the stairs and turn into the dining and lounge room. A man in his late 40s is resting on a recliner, i see Mikey doing the same. Gerard clears his throat to get his fathers attention, he turns around, noticing me.
"Dad, this is Avalon, or Ava for short, she's going to be spending Christmas with us." Gerard says, doing the same thing with his mom,
"Ah, yes. Donna was telling me about it," He stands up - I can see where Gerard gets his hight from - and walks over to me, grabbing my hand and shaking it, "You can call me Donald. Or Don for short." We exchange greetings and nod,
"Okay, well, I'm going to show Ava around the place. we won't be longer than an hour," Gerard says, breaking the awkward silence between all of us.
Before being given a chance to speak, Gerard drags me out by the hand and heads towards his car,
"I hope you don't mind, it just gets extremely boring in there before dinner"
"No, it's fine. I'd like to get to know the place anyway."
He mumbles a quick 'okay' and we drive out. The snow has a thick layer, not thick enough for not being able to drive though.
We drive past children playing in the snow and parents shoveling it; we also see some Christmas lights around here and there. Gerard takes me around the town, pointing out some of his favorites and where he spent most of his time.
It's a nice little town. I wouldn't live here, but visit with Gerard sometimes. It's been at least 50 minutes and Gerard is driving back to his house. He pulls into the driveway, hopping out of his seat and racing to open my door for me, I thank him. We make our way back inside. I walk into the kitchen, making myself useful and helo Donna with dinner. Roast Pork with vegtables is what's on the stove. It smells fabulous, I set the table for her.
"Ava, honey, can you go grab Gerard? Dinners ready." She exclaims, I nod my head and walk up the stairs; Gerard did show me his room, so i remember the way.
I lightly knock on his door, he swings it open and smiles down at me,
"Your- um, mum told me to tell you that dinners ready" I said. He chuckles a little at my fumbling. Past his body I see why he's up here, he's working on a drawing.
"Gee, what're you drawing over there?" I ask curiously, trying to get a look at it,
"N-nothing, it's nothing, Ava. C'ome lets have dinner." He says, hurrying his sentence. I try and catch a quick glimps at it, I know for a fact that it's not 'nothing'.
He meets all of us downstairs so we can start dinner. Good.
------ After dinner and shower and stuff ------
I'm still very curious about the drawing Gerard is working on, usually he lets me judge his work, finished or not.
Soon enough, I curl up into my blankets and just sleep, wondering what shopping tomorrow will be like.
