Burn Bright

I put my maybe feeling for Gerard out of my head as I saw my house getting closer and closer. When I got home and entered, I nodded at Sean so he knew that everything was ready for worse that may be coming. He returned the nod and whispered something to the cooks, then they whispered something to someone else and someone else, it felt like a chain. Before I knew it felt like everyone was staring at me, giving me pitiful looks here and there I wanted to run into my room and just hide, but Sean put his hand on my back and led me to the sitting room where my mother and father were. My father was wearing his suit so he must be heading back to work soon.

“There you are.” My mother said closing her book when she saw me, “The maid said you wanted to talk to the two of us about our conversation last night, we have been waiting for 10 minutes.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Well get on with it.” She pushed me.

“About you guys wanting me to marry that guy-”

“You accept?” My mother joyfully cut in.

“No, I want to be in love, I want my marriage and future kids to be mine, my choice, not because you two wanted me to.” I explained to them. “I hope you guys can see that.”

“It’s sad you hear you say that, but I-” My father started but was interrupted by my mother.

“That is unacceptable! You will marry him!” She yelled at me.

“You can’t force me to do anything!” I yelled back.

“True.” She said calmly, “But we can take away everything from you until you agree, this isn’t about you, this is about the company your father built.”

“His company through my marriage? Do it, I dare you.” I challenged her, “I don’t want any of this, I don’t care if I’m dirt poor, as long as I’m happy with someone real.”

“How dare you speak to us like that? We gave you everything since you were born! We raised you-”

“You didn’t raise me! Carly did! She was more of a mother to me than you ever were!” I cut her off.

“Get out of this house now!” She yelled at me.

“Gladly.” I said as I made my way out, as I walked away I heard her tell someone to call her lawyer so she could remove me from her will.

I think I also heard my father yell at her. That kinda made me smile, at least one of my old parents cared about me. As I walked towards the door most of the people my parents hired for staff walked with me or was waiting for me at my car.

“I wish I could walk away with you.”
“You better off without them.”
“I’m so proud of you.”
“Stay strong.”

They all said nice things to me that made me feel better. Sean was the last one by my car waiting for me, when he saw me he gave me a hug and told me to call him whenever I needed anything and that he would only be a phone call away. I thanked him and then climbed into my car and drove off to Gerard’s house, which would be mine for a bit now. When I got there I walked up to the door to find it locked. I rang the bell and waited for someone to answer and Gerard did.

“Hey.” I said stepping into his house.

“How did everything go?” He asked as he pulled me into his room.

“I got kicked out.”

“I’m so sorry.” He said as we sat on his bed.

“They wanted me to marry a stranger, I’m not sorry, but you know what will make me feel better?” I asked.

“What?”

“Vodka.” I said.

He smiled then reached under his bed and pulled out two unopened bottles. He gave me one, it was strawberry flavored, I opened it and took a swig of it as he locked his door. He came back over and tried to grab the bottle from me but I shook my head no.

“My parents won’t be home till Monday, in two days, and Mikey is in his room. You plan on drinking that by yourself?” He asked.

“Yup.” I smiled.

Before I knew it over half of mine was drunken and less than half of Gerard’s was. I was completely wasted while Gerard was kinda there.

“Gee!” I whined and crawled on his lap.

“What?” he asked as he took another swig.

“I wanna have sex with you?” I said as I smashed out lips together.
