Tuck your hair behind your ears

New place, new life. I finally left my 'home'. It wasn't home, my parents gave me hell for not being perfect like my little brother. Not being good like Mikey. Failing school lead me to smoking to escape and drinking to forget how my parents hated me.

When my aunt Helena died, I was devastated. I was closer to her than anyone else and whenever I could I would stay with her. She didn't compare me to my genius brother and shared my nicotine addiction. She left me enough money to buy a shitty flat in the dodgy area of New Jersey but I don't care. Now I was free from everyone I knew. (Which wasn't many as I had few friends and those I did have were mostly high whenever I was around and so won't miss me much).

My flat was more of a bed sit really. A time room with a bed, kitchen area and table with 2 broken chairs and a grotty bathroom that I can only assume has never been cleaned. I had no tv, only my aunt Helena's old record player and collection of vinyls.

I took a look around my new home and decided I was best to go out to get an idea of the area. Grabbing my keys and a leather jacket I left. Locking the door after myself. It was only starting to get dark so I decided to take a walk around the park and follow the river for a while.

The park was nothing special, some trees, a children's play area smothered in graffiti and a small river which flowed over rocks, producing a tricking sound, reminding me of Helena's water fountain. I sat on a bench by the bridge over the river and lit up a cigarette, thinking about my new life, my aunt Helena and how the hell I was supposed to give up smoking. From behind me a boyish voice interrupted my thoughts.

'Can I borrow a light?' It asked, a hand extended towards me, rolled cigarette clutched between 2 fingers.
I handed over my lighter! taking a second to observe his appearance.
