We Express Ourseleves Through Sin

Première Partie

I'm not religious. Anybody on the street could tell you that. I don't know what a Hail Mary is, or how to use it to repel the devil or what have you. I wore a rosary once. But it was mocking some girl in my high school. That was the first time of a thousand I'd be called a 'cold hearted bitch' and told I needed religion.
I tried satanism. Too much self love.
I tried Wicca. Too much earth.
I tried every alternative except mainstream practice and frankly; I couldn't bring myself to give a shit. So here I stand at the broad, carved, chapel doors staring at the big man himself etched into the glass as the Sunday bells rung. Let's try Catholic.
The room was broad and meant to echo. Every footstep from my heels reverberated though the place was half full. I took a spot in a seat a few yards from an elderly woman in the far back and waited, bored and unimpressed for the shindig to start. People whispered amongst themselves and tidied their kids faces an clothes… as if they wouldn't fuck them up two seconds later. As time ticked on, I became more discouraged, uncomfortable, and bored. The doors behind finally shut and a voice spoke louder than the rest.
"Please rise for the opening prayer." A scratchy jersey accent ordered. I stayed seated as the whole room shifted.
The woman next to me glared down through her thick glasses angrily.
"Stand up child, don't you know The Lord is watching?"
I slowly followed her callous command.
"Yes, out of the billions of people he supposedly created, he's watching me."
"Your mother ought to wash your mouth out with soap."
I rolled my eyes as words I wasn't interested in drained into the room.
"Lord God of Holiness,
You have called us to be the servants of your servants-
Our brothers and sisters in the parish.
We meet here as their representatives,
And so we ask for the grace of your guidance.
Help us to truly represent them
And not simply ourselves.…"
I stopped listening then, looking for the source of the voice from curiosity as everyone else bowed their heads.

(A: this is a taste of the new fic I'm working on, I hope you like it, comment what you think so far if you like?)
