Land of Teenage Dirtbags
Burning notebooks
"Do you wanna go out with me?"
My brain kind of shut down at that question. I like Mikey, but as a friend. How do I answer this without hurting his feelings eventually? He looks so hopeful. I know I do a lot of careless things, but I care about Mikey in a brother-sister kind of way.
"Uh-" I'm cut off by Alex coming out of nowhere and putting his arm around my waist.
"Sorry Mikey, but she's not exactly available right now."
This seems to throw Mikey off guard a little.
"Wha-what? Since when?"
"Since 'it doesn't matter she's mine, not yours'," he says it so convincingly I almost forget that we're not really together.
"Oh, but we can still be friends?" Mikey looks at me with puppy dog eyes.
"Of course we're still friends!" I say hugging him. I don't know why I hug him, I just feel like if I had just been pretty much rejected I would want a hug, too.
"See you guys tomorrow," he says looking down and quickly walking away.
"I totally just saved your ass, didn't I?" Alex smirks.
"Yeah," I laugh, "thanks."
"Thanks? All I get is 'thanks'?" He laughs. "I just saved you from having to date Mikey!"
"What am I suppose to do? Owe you my life?" I tease.
"No, but you could at least just..." He trails off and cups my face in his hands before leaning down and kissing me. I kiss back and he pulls away after a minute.
"Goodnight," he whispers in my ear before heading off to his cabin. I jog the rest of the way up to my cabin and quickly catch my breath before walking in.
Gerard looks up at me from his spot on his bed and Frank walks out of the bathroom with his arms crossed and a stern look on his face.
"Young lady, where have you been?" He says in a stern parent voice.
"We have been worried sick!" Gerard exclaims before I have a chance to respond.
"Was it with a boy? Hm?" Frank starts tapping his foot on the ground.
"Yes," I reply in an exasperated voice.
"Don't take that tone with me," he's really good at this, I must admit.
"I'll take whatever fucking tone I want," I cross my arms.
"Staying out late with boys, taking tones, language. What are we going to do with you?" He exclaims throwing his arms in the air.
"We'll send her to some camp full of other delinquit teenagers with raging-hormones for six months," Gerard laughs.
Frank and I both laugh, because it's true. Sending your teenager to a small camp with a bunch of other horny and careless teens; what could go wrong?
"No seriously, what were you doing?" Frank laughs.
"No seriously, none of your damn business," I laugh back as I get a pair of clothes to sleep in out of the small dresser that came with the cabin.
"Really Leda! I wanna know!" He jumps over to me like a little kid.
"Frank! It's none of your business!"
"If you don't tell me I'll...I'll take a video of you showering," he threatens.
Gerard and I share 'what the fuck' glances before looking back at Frank.
"What the hell, Frank? What's the worst thing that would happen? You show everybody, or jack off to it?"
He doesn't say anything and I walk past him into the bathroom, making sure to lock the door just to be safe. I take a quick shower and manage to find a clean towel hiding in the cabinet. I get dressed, brush my teeth, and walk out and over to my bed. I see Frank looking in what looks like a notebook. My notebook? I check where I always put my notebook and find it missing.
Frank catches me staring at him and a devilish smirk grows on his face.
"Oh, is this yours?" He taunts, holding up the notebook full of random stuff sketches and thoughts.
I keep myself calm, even though I'm freaking out on the inside. That book contains things nobody was suppose to ever see. I always throw finished notebooks away JUST so no one sees them.
"I don't care," I shrug, hoping he'll lose interest.
"Oh good, so you won't mind if I show Gerard?"
Fuck. I need plan B.
"Give me that!" I lunge toward him and try to snatch the book away from him, but he keeps it out of my reach.
"You show anybody and I'll kill you!" I threaten, still trying to reach it. This seems to get Gerard interested because he silently walks over and snatches it out of Frank's hand. We both freeze as Gerard flips through the pages, pausing to read whatever's written down. He laughs and points to something.
"You wonder what my mouth tastes like?" He looks up at me while laughing.
I feel my face grow red and I grab the book away from him and beat Frank with it.
"Stop! Stop it!" He squeals.
I rush over to my bag and pull out a lighter before going outside.
"What are you doing?" Frank asks following after me along with Gerard.
They stand on the small porch as I hold the book in the small flame, watching it catch on fire.
"Hey, I'm sorry! You don't have to burn it!" Frank says.
"You don't have to burn it," I mock in a weird voice.
"Come on, Leda, you're being a dick about this," Gerard huffs.
"Why don't you go suck one, Gerard." I reply, dropping the flaming book into the damp grass.
Gerard angrily storms into the cabin and slams the door behind him.
"Come on," Frank says lifting me up from behind before stomping the fire out.
"You're overreacting just get some sleep," he says calmly. I do what he says and climb into bed, only sleep doesn't come very easy.
I wake up a few hours later and it's still dark. Probably around 2am. I hear someone shuffling around and sit up, waiting for my eyes to adjust before seeing a taller silhouette.
"Gerard?" I whisper.
The shuffling stops before he whispers back, "yeah,".
"I'm sorry for earlier, I just got mad," I say looking down at my lap.
"It's fine," he replies after a minute. "Forget about it."
With that I lie back down and sleep sounder than before.
