Don't Forget to Check the Obvious (Cute is What We Aim For)
(Grace's POV)
"...Turner?" So he is still here. "Uh. Hi, Gee Bear. Long time no see?" He examined me and I did the same to him. He wasn't the chubby short kid with glasses that I knew and loved anymore. He still had those awesome hazel eyes though. His hair used to be neatly combed and light brown. Now it was longish, jet black, and messy. He had dark circles under his eyes and no glasses. And he definitely wasn't chubby anymore. To be honest, he was kinda hot. Or really hot. I'm just gonna go with really hot. And then he smiled, "Can I come in?" "Of course! See, girlish? I told you he was still here!" Van beamed. Gerard walked in and looked around, "Nice apartment. Got any coffee?" He asked as he set the pizza on the table. I opened the box. Thank God, it was Hawaiian. Van and Gee went in the kitchen to make coffee and I grabbed a slice as I watched them. "How's Milky Way?" I asked. Gee turned and took a long drink from my Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club mug, "I think he's having some trouble at school, but he won't tell me, " He frowned, "I wish I knew what was going on." He took another long drink. Van and I stayed silent and Gee choked on his coffee a little, "Oh, God. Sorry. I didn't realize. I just kinda came in and spewed negativity like, immediately. I'm sorry." "No problem," Van shrugged, "Maybe he would talk to me, though." "Yeah, Mikes always seemed to trust you a lot," I nodded. Gee looked up, "Really? You'd talk to him?" Van nodded, "I love Mikey. He's like my little brother too. And I miss him really bad." A sly smile played it's way across Gerard's lips.
"You guys wanna come over?" Van squealed and looked at me, "Can we? Pleeeeaaase? Canwecanwecanwecanwe--" "If you would kindly! shut! up!" I screamed. Van and Gee high-fived. I swear, they're like kindergarteners. Gerard grabbed his car keys and headed towards the door. "Wait... Now?" I said, watching him stride over and open the door. "Yup." He said nonchalantly. Van held his finger in the air and ran to the bathroom. I grabbed Gee's hand and dragged him into the bathroom as well as I helped Van rinse his hair out. When we finished, he whipped it around getting water all over me and causing me to groan angrily. As payback, I grabbed a towel and threw it over his head, jerking it around violently like I was drying a dog. Both him and Gee giggled uncontrollably and I felt like we were kids again. "Can we go now?" Gerard giggled.
"No!" Van yelled as I released him. He quickly grabbed the hairdryer and blew his thick, messy, and now black hair in any which direction it chose to go to keep it from drying wavy. Once it was mostly dry, he turned the dryer off and nodded, "Now we can go." The three of us walked into the parking lot and right before we got into the Pizza Hut car, Van turned to me and put his hands on my shoulders, "Okay, give me your honest opinion... Too scene?" I shook my head, "No, it looks normal," I lied. A smirk played it's way across his face and he climbed into the back seat, "Good." Gerard blasted First Date by Blink 182 and peeled off. "Uh... Should we be taking this car?" I shouted above the music. "It's no prob! Boss doesn't care!" He yelled back. A second later, he rolled down all the windows, making my wavy blonde hair fly everywhere. "Hey!" I yelled. He cackled loudly in response and locked the windows so I couldn't roll them up. He really hasn't changed a bit.
We rolled into the Ways' driveway. They lived in the same house, but it was different somehow. I guess that's what happens when you don't see a place for 7 years. Gerard turned off the car and the music cut off with it. It was already 9:00 pm and the ground was kind of wet, cold wind whipping all of our hair into our faces as we got out of the car. Gerard fiddled with the keys and eventually the door swung open, revealing a tall boy with straight brown hair and glasses sitting on the couch playing Assassin's Creed III. "Freaking sequence 12!" He screamed as he chucked the controller at the ground. "Mi-ikes~" Gerard called in a sing-song voice, making Mikey jump and Van laugh, "Look who I brought!" Mikey's eyes instantly widened and he ran over, picking me up in a bear hug then turned to Van and did the same thing. "WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE WHY HOW WHO AM I WHAT I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH WHAT--" The words spilled from his mouth a million miles an hour. He bit his lip and examined my face, tears streaming down his cheeks, "Oh my God, I thought I was never gonna see you guys again. Oh my God..." He hugged me again and sniffled. Mikey is precious. I hugged him right back, remembering the eight year old who would run straight to me when he would always scrape his knee and just cry like a little baby as we sat on the porch while Van cleaned it. I remembered the kid who would grab Gee's hand and force him to walk with him to the bathroom. I remembered the kid who would force Van to carry him and then end up falling asleep. And then I remembered how Gerard said he was having trouble at school and I was overwhelmed with feelings of both protectiveness and anger. After a second, Van put his hand on Mikey's shoulder and wiped a tear off his face. "We need to talk, Mikes."
(Van's POV)
Gerard and Grace left the room, leaving just me and a very emotional Mikey Way. "Mikes, Gee told me something is going on at school. What's up?" He took a sudden interest in his shoes. I tried to get him to look at me, "Mikey. You need to tell someone if something is going on." He still didn't look at me, but he mumbled, "It's just some idiots playing tricks and saying stupid stuff..." I sat down and sighed, "Tell me more. Tell me everything, okay?" He stayed silent but nodded and sat down after a moment. "I can't believe Gerard told you to do this..." He hissed under his breath, thinking I couldn't hear him. He looked up but not at me, "There's just this random jock kid who likes pick on me. That's it. It's not a big deal or anything." I can tell he's not telling me everything. "Pick on you how?" I asked. His eyes went everywhere but me, "He'll just like, shoot rubber bands at me and call me stuff and dump food on me and stuff. I don't get really hurt by any of it or anything." I put my hand on his shoulder and forced him to look me in the eyes. "What does he call you?" I felt rage bubbling up to the surface and bit my tongue to simmer back down. Who the hell would try and hurt Mikey?! Does he have no soul? "It's not a big deal!" He yelled, jerking his shoulder away. "What's his name?" I asked one last question. He finally looked me in the eye. "James Summers!" He yelled before running upstairs and disappearing to his room.
