I'm Not Okay!
In Food, I've Drowned
Mikey Way:
Third hour passed by kind of quickly, even thought it was like, only half over and all. But still, while in the middle of class, the lunch bell rand. Everyone sighed in relief as it did.
But they all just sat there and stayed in their seats
I looked around me at them all. What were they doing? They all had looked annoyed or ready to jump out of their seats. Ooh, I get it. We have to be dismissed! How stupid is that?
At my old school, we could just get up and leave. But this is just plain ridiculous!
It seemed like forever until she finally did dismiss us. They all ran out of the room heading for the cafeteria, which I had no idea where I was going, so I just followed everyone else.
It seemed to be right in the middle of it all. We even had to go outside to get there. While everyone was in their uniforms, together we looked like the same person. Girls looked like each other, and boys looked like other boys. It was just too weird.
I’m surprised I could pick out my own brother. “Hey,” He said, coming up to me, squeezing his way through to me.
“Hey,” I mumbled back, glad that I knew someone in this crowd of moody teenagers. Not saying that Gerard wasn’t moody.
“Do you have any idea to where we’re going?” He asked, trying to look over someone at least a few inches taller than him.
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Shut up,” He grumbled, having to look up at me.
It was so funny to me that my older brother was shorter than me.
“Not my fault you took after mom,” I reminded him, actually looking over the people he was trying to look over just a second ago. I was showing off just a bit.
“Yeah, whatever,” He rolled his eyes. “But you’re lucky that you took after dad. It’s not fair that you got the tall genes.” He glared.
I laughed at him again before we had finally arrived to the lunchroom. As we stepped in, we paused, searching for the only 3 people we knew.
Gerard must have spotted them in a corner by the lunch line, sitting at a small rounded table in front of one of the open arches that could be blocked and gated from the inside. There was just enough room for us both.
He ran towards them, leaving me behind. I tucked my hands into my jacket pockets and walked after him.
Suddenly, someone bumped straight into me and dropped all of their lunch onto my new shoes and part of my pants.
“Fuck!” I accidentally yelled.
The person quickly stepped back to avoid the mess and said, “Oh shit, I am so sorry dude! I didn’t mean to like, totally walk into you there.”
I looked up at her and lost my breath as well as she did too once we made eye contact. She was one of the prettiest girls I have seen throughout this entire school.
She had gorgeous hair, with highlights of purple within the rest of it that was brown, which matched her deep brown eyes, but my heart seemed to stop at the sight of her smile.
“Uh, don’t be. It’s…”I cleared my throat, hardly able to sound out my voice, or able to take my eyes off her. “It’s my bad.”
My bad? Really? Just what I need, to sound like a dumbass right now. I had to look away then, staring uncomfortably at my feet that were now covered in mashed potatoes and some sort of liquid that tried to call itself gravy.
“Are you sure? ‘Cause it seems as though I ran into you.” She said, trying to hold back a laugh at my soaking wet shoes.
“It’s cool, don’t worry about it.” I shrugged, trying to remain casual, but all I could hear was the blood pumping in my ears.
I couldn’t take it anymore, those beautiful eyes staring into mine, so I had to walk away, quickly without actually running like the coward I am before she could say anything else.
As I walked, I couldn’t help but look back at her. She was watching me. I smiled slightly, trying to be friendly and then made my way for the guys.
They were all smiling at me too, but in a way that made me feel uneasy. I got to the table and sat on the spot left for me, as Gerard had scooted over. They all smiled between their teeth and wouldn’t look away from me. And I knew why.
“What?” I asked, pretending not to know anything, like I still didn’t have mashed potatoes seeping into my socks right now. I was going to be squeaking in my shoes all day.
“Oh, don’t act like you don’t know.” Frank said, leaning in closer over his folded arms on the table. “Who was that girl?”
I raised an eyebrow. “I don’t have a clue to what you’re talking about.”
There was no point in trying to hide it. They all saw it happen right in front of their eyes.
Then they just burst out into laughter, patted me on the back or knuckled me, and from my brother, a nice head lock from under his smelly arm pit. Highlight of my day…
Gerard Way:
“Nice one, bro! You just totally scored!” I said, congratulating my brother for a new record.
He broke up with his crazy, psycho girlfriend one day, and then the next, he gets another girl!
“I didn’t score, okay? I just talked to her for like, five seconds. That’s all.” He defended himself.
Well, never mind then. Maybe he’s not as cool as I thought, but, he did just find a potentially new girlfriend though! That counts for something…right?
“But you do like her though,” Ray stated more than asked a question.
Mikey shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe, maybe not.”
“Well, which is it? Why don’t you ask her out if you maybedo?” Frank asked, quoting the air with Mikey’s words.
“Well I don’t know, okay?” Mikey grew frustrated. “Maybe I’m just not over-”
“Don’t say it!” We all shouted at once, some of us holding out our hands to stop him from saying the name we all hated.
I didn’t even like to think about her, the bitch who was my brother’s ex. We all hated her, even when they were still going out.
But there was one major reason why I hated her the most. I just knew that I could never tell anyone so no one else could know.
And it was going to stay that way forever.
“Yeah, yeah I know you all hater her, but I’m just saying. I’m not ready to date anyone yet.” He looked back up at us and smiled. “But I am totally ready to check them out though.”
Everyone laughed and cheered again as Mikey finally understood that, you just can't take it easy on relationships. You gotta take the high road, and keep you head up as well.
I tried not to laugh at the perverted image that popped in my head as I thought that.
“Come on, let’s go.” Frank said, getting up as the bell rang for us to go back to class.
“Great. I get to fight with my favorite teacher some more!” Bob said with fake enthusiasm.
“That’s nice of you Bob to think of your teacher in such a positive way.” Ray joked.
We all walked to our classes, dreading it the whole way. None of us wanted to be here, none of us wanted to go to class, and none of us wanted to face our annoying ass teachers.
