The Mistake

Discoveries

Monday, December 17th
We pan in hours later to find the entire Way household -- except for the unknown brother -- gathered in the living room, staring down the small Iero family. The short brown-haired boy looked curiously at the other family, trying to detect the family resemblance. There wasn't much of one; the parents were both dark-haired with green and brown eyes respectively, while the son had light, almost blonde hair and hazel eyes, much like his secrete brother.
Mikey Way stood with a stoic expression, gazing at the Ieros, completely unimpressed. Juliet seemed apprehensive as she stared questioningly at the Ways. Christi and Barry were smiling happily, eyebrows raised almost expectantly.
Christi was the first to break the silence. "Juliet, come to the parlor and we'll do today's session, okay? Mikey, why don't you take Frank with you to your room?" She grasped her husband's hand and pulled him into the other room. Juliet shot Frank a look that said "Don't mindfuck this kid too badly" before following his parents.
"Follow me then," Mikey monotoned before spinning on his heel and going up the stairs. Frank was hesitant to follow; going with Mikey meant he wouldn't be able to see Gerard, and he really didn't want to break that promise. Who knew how Gerard would react to his first friend breaking such a precious promise.
Frank trotted up silently, watching Mikey's back as he glided across the hallway, towards what Frank assumed was his bedroom.
"Mi casa su casa," Mikey states dryly, waving his arm in an exaggerated gesture. The tattooed boy shuffled in tentatively, eyeing the room so different from Gerard's warily. It was covered in band posters and pictures of friends and family littering the space over his desk. There was one element missing from them all, making Frank frown. This wasn't right, Gerard should be there. He shouldn't be locked in a basement, alone.
"You don't know, do you?"
Mikey turned to the stranger in his bedroom, raising an eyebrow and frowning. "What the hell are you talking about?" he asked.
Frank turned towards him, sighing. He didn't like having to break the news, he really didn't. But hey, someone would have to do it once Gerard was eighteen. Knowing his parents, they'd probably kick him out of the house and disown him on that particular April 9th. "I need to show you something, Mikey. Something you probably won't like."
Understandably, the lanky boy looked skeptical. "If you touch me, I'll scream."
"What?!" Frank yelped, backing away slightly. "Oh, god no, not you!"
"Thanks, that makes me feel good."
"There's just no pleasing you, is there?"
"I'd say not."
Frank sighed and rubbed his hand over his face. "Just-- follow me," he groaned, leaving the room and treading lightly down the stares. They passed Ms.Harriet on the way to the basement stairs, gaining a small grin from her. Frank smiled back; she was definitely one of his top five favorite people right now.
Mikey stayed silent until they reached the basement staircase. "I didn't know we had a basement," he muttered, glaring in the direction of the parlor briefly.
"You don't know a lot of things, Mikes," Frank assured his new friend, smiling sadly. He descended the stairs quickly and shoved his body weight against the door again, gaining enough leave to push himself and Mikey through. The lights were off, like they had been the first time Frank had entered the room. He could hear quiet singing from the corner, along with rustling papers and clothing. He could feel Mikey tense up next to him.
"You're just a sad song
With nothing to say
About a lifelong
Wait for a hospital stay
And if you think that I'm wrong
This never meant nothing to ya."
Frank flicked the lights on and grinned at a startled-looking Gerard who sat in a corner, a pencil in one hand and a large sketchpad in the other. His face lit up when he saw who it was, but then dimmed when he saw someone with his friend.
"Who is that, Frank?" he asked, hazel eyes widening in curiosity.
"Frank
," Mikey hissed, taking a small step towards the door. "Why is there some guy in my basement?!"
"Wait," Gerard breathed, "I know that voice." He stood, staring at Mikey intently. "Mikey?"
The tallest boy looked downright frightened now. "Who the fuck are you?!"
"Mikey," Frank said calmly, "meet your older brother, Gerard Way."
Gerard waved happily, smiling like the lovable dork Frank knew he was.

Cliffhanger, right? This is what you guys consider a cliffhanger? That'd be a soft cliffhanger, if anything. Like, a window-ledgehanger.
