Boys in The Band
Sass-O-Matic
We piled and old dresser, bed set, two bedside tables, and a desk into the trailer first before cramming anything else. The furniture pieces were odds and ends of sets that looked like her parents wanted to get rid of to make room for a new T.V. or were salvaged form garage sales. What better way to get rid of shit like this than your daughter who moved out?
Everything seemed to be packed. I walked back into the house and knelled beside the couch where Chase was sleeping. I didn't know if she was just resting her eyes or was actually sound asleep. I brushed her bleached hair off her face and shook he shoulder gently, "Chase, it's time to go. Sure you got everything?" He grey-blue eyes fluttered open. Yeah, she was sound asleep and I just interrupted the much-needed Z's. She let out a small, tired groan and slowly stood up. Her feet shuffled across the worn wood floor as she took her last looks in the rooms.
We had packed away everything like coffee mugs, quilts, cook books, pillows, CD's, a box of important documents and receipts, an old stereo system that took up a whole seat, and plates that were engraved and painted by both children, and elderly people that were passionate int heir practice. Everything in her possession looked like it had so much history.
I helped Chase down the three steps to her doorway and lead her out tot he car. "Is the Mustang yours?" I asked.
She nodded
After sitting her down in Gerard's white 1980 muscle car, I went back in the house and grabbed her keys. I unlocked the door to her mustang with the shitty blue-grey paint job and turned on the engine. This thing purred like a kitten. Bob must have fixed it up real good. I smiled at Gerard and he too, turned his key. I was surprised his car could still pull a trailer behind it without rolling backwards and killing us all.
We drove the whole block it took to get back home. The garage door was open, and so was the giant door that lead to the back yard. Our yard was pretty funny, because the garage opened up all the way to the back so we could have plenty of people over to flood both the front and back yard while we jammed. Not that we had that many friends, but we could.
I parked Chase's Mustang in a corner of the backyard, under shelter and out of the way until she decided she wanted to drive it again. Gerard back the trailer onto the driveway, with years of practice, into the perfect spot. Ray and Frank were standing against the walls of the garage, clutching onto their guitars, amps, drums, and various other chords only Ray knew how to set up.
Little Miss Alice was there too, arms crossed and angry look on her face, "Where the hell were you!?"
"I told you to go home, Alice." I said flatly
Gerard opened the door for Chase who stepped out and leaned against the vehicle.
"And who the hell is she!?" She cheeked, in a louder tone.
Chase smirked and strode up to meet Alice. She leaned over, about a foot taller than my headache. She grabbed the collar of Alice's varsity t-shirt and came an inch from her face, "I'm his girlfriend." She growled and strutted inside.
Ray and Frank both gave in and snickered like mad, following Chase inside with guitars in hand. Gerard patter her shoulder, "Sorry, sweetheart" and fled in with the others. I simply smirked and closed the door behind me.
"I FUCKING HATE YOU, MICHEAL WAY!" She screamed form outside. Like I care.
Everyone laughed the hardest I've heard them laugh in days.
I guess things are looking up.
