The Ghost of You.

Chapter Three.

The pounding in my head matched the pounding on the door, but I could barely tell the difference. What the fuck is happening? Gerard was dead, how was this possible? I felt someone kneeling next to me, and I closed my eyes tight as my head was pulled onto someone's lap, their soft, comforting hands caressing the side of my face.

"Gerard," I whispered again, opening my eyes and watching his perfect face gaze down on me.

"Frank, listen to me," he spoke quiet, but there was an alarming urgency in his voice that caused my heart to beat slightly faster. "I can't take too long, they're coming after me-"

"Wait, who's they? Why are they after you?"

"Listen, Frank," he spoke louder, but his gaze was still soft. "You need to go back there and tell the story; it's the only way I can pass on. I need to get away from here. If it takes too long, I won't ever be able to cross over- my body will be inhabited by spirits and demons you've never even imagined. And they'll come after you."

"What?" I choked out in disbelief. "No. No, this isn't real. None of this is real. You're not real."
The tears were spilling from my eyes and Gerard wiped them away almost instantly, his face coming closer. I could feel his icy breath on my face when he exhaled, his lips just a mere inch from my own. I instantly lost my train of thought, and every single urge and want in my body took over. I was craving him. I needed to kiss him. Fuck, I needed him. I sat up slowly, closing the gap between us and softly letting my lips graze over his own. His body stiffened and I opened my eyes only to meet his; pained and alerted, he pulled back.

Hurt flashed across my features and his head snapped around to look behind him. A black mist was visible, and my eyes widened when I saw mutilated, grabbing hands reaching forward towards Gerard. As the mist came nearer, Gerard looked at me one more time, his fingers tracing my lips before he started drifting away from me.

I forced my arms to work as I reached out to grab him. "Gerard!" I yelled, physically hurting. My hand went straight through his, and I felt the icy breeze where he once was disappearing.

When everything had cleared, I found myself sat, lifeless and limp on the bathroom floor, staring at a toilet. My hands were shaking uncontrollably and my eyes were red and swollen. It took me a few more minutes before I heard the banging on the door again, only I knew it had been going on for a while. The pounding ceased, and I heard strained muttering from behind the door. I didn't jump when the door swung open, and Detective Brown and Sett ran barging in, examining me.

"Frank, are you alright?" Sett asked me, kneeling down beside me and trying to get into my view.

"Frank, who were you talking to?" Brown sounded somewhat nervous, but his overall professional attitude was radiating.

"G-Gerard," I stuttered, staring blankly at the wall. "He's...gone."

"Gerard Way? Frank, he died over three months ago. Now who were you talking to?" Brown seemed to be slightly concerned now, but played it off easily. When I didn't reply, I knew he was getting slightly aggitated. I saw Sett out of the corner of my eye glaring at him, but Brown paid no attention.

"Who were you talking to, Frank?" He sounded more irritated now, but I didn't even glance at him.

"Frank," he snapped, "Who was in here?"

"Brown, calm down-" Sett began.

"Frank!" He yelled, now pacing around the small room impatiently. I snapped my head up and he stopped. "Tell me who you were with."

"Gerard," I stated, and he froze. Sett glanced at me, and then at Brown, his baby blue eyes full of worry.

"Gerard is dead, Frank."

I winced, my hands starting to shake again. "Don't say that," I warned him.

"He's dead, and you need help," Brown stated, and I heard Sett stand from beside me and start to walk over to his very worked up collegue.

"Don't say that," I warned him again. I felt as though I could have been oozing venom. My glares could kill if I had my way.

"You need mental help," he laughed cruelly. "You're crazy."

"Detective Brown! That's enough!" Detective Sett snapped, causing both me and Brown to jump at his sudden outburst. I was seeing a side of these two that I'd never seen before.

I took in a stuttery breath and closed my eyes. "I know he's...dead," I admitted. "But, he was here." I tried to make myself sound as convincing as I could, but even to my own ears, I knew I sounded crazy. Maybe I did need help.

"Of course," Brown mocked. "You know, you don't lie about these things."

"I'm not lying!" I shouted, my temper wearing thin.

"Sure you're not."

I snarled, jumping up to my feet. I was going to fucking kill this guy. I launched myself at him, my fist connecting with his nose. In the silence, I could literally hear the bone breaking. Brown stumbled away from me, holding his nose. His eyes were wide. Sett's were wide too, and he tried to go after Brown as he scrambled out the room, but was shoved away. I could have sworn I saw Detective Sett quickly flash me an amused smile, before he started calling out for doctors.

-

"He needs help!" I heard Brown's familliar voice. He was talking to my doctor outside the closed door. Their conversation was hushed, but I could hear every word they were saying.

"Detective, I'm going to have to tell you to either calm down or leave. Mr. Iero has suffered quite a loss. I assure you, this kind of behaviour is normal."

"Punching me in the face is normal behaviour?!" Brown raised his voice, and was hushed by a few people in the waiting area. I chuckled.

"You were provoking him. He warned you, and you paid no attention. Now if you'll allow me to check on my patient," the doctor stated, and I heard the latch click on the door and Brown's annoyed sigh. I rolled over quietly, pretending to be sleeping.

For a few minutes, the doctor fiddled with the machine across from me, and scurried around the room before giving up and stopping by the end of my bed. I sat up slowly to see a man, maybe in his mid-thirties, holding a clip board and a pen in one hand, and a small cup of water in the other. His face was aged, but I assumed with stress more than anything. The lines on his face didn't look to be wrinkles. His light blonde hair was slicked back neatly. He was pale; paler than me. His thin lips were spread out into a smile, and I returned it.

"It's good to see you, Mr. Iero." He spoke softly, but there was a hint of humour on his features.

"I'd like to say the same, but I don't think I remember you," I admitted, blushing awkwardly.

"Ah, you haven't met me yet. I'm your doctor, Mr. Swan, but you can just call me Rupert."

"Well, Rupert," I smiled. "You can call me Frank."

"Very well, Frank. You have quite a punch, you know. You broke Detective Brown's nose," he chuckled, and I shrugged lower into the covers.

"Sorry," I muttered, but he remained amused.

"Don't worry about it. Detective Sett has assured me nobody will be pressing charges."

I visibly relaxed slightly, but then realization hit. "Hey, am I going to the station today?" There was an alarming tone in my voice and Rupert clearly picked it up.

"I'm afraid not," he sighed. "We're under specific orders to keep you here for a while."

"But I need to go. I have more to tell. Please, can't you make an exeption?" I pleaded, my voice close to cracking. I swallowed and tried not to look too weak.

"I'm sorry, it's out of my hands." He shook his head.

"Well who's hands is it in?" I pushed, my voice becoming shaky with worry. He studied my condition for a while, but didn't say anything. My eyes became unfocussed as the words Gerard had spoke before rang clear through my head.

"I can't take too long, they're coming after me..."

"Please," I tried again, getting quieter and quieter.

"I'm sorry, I-"

"I need to go!" I yelled, startling him.

"I need to get away from here..."

I threw the sheets from over me, stumbling out of bed and grabbing my jeans out of the draws beside me.

"Frank, please get back into bed," Rupert asked me, his voice lathered with distress.

"Don't tell me what to do," I snapped, my eyes glaring daggers.

"If you don't do what I say I may have to get security-" he told me calmly, reaching out to put a hand on my shoulder.

"And don't fucking touch me," I yelled, grabbing his arm. He cowered as I let go, nodding and stumbling out the room.

"Frank," a familliar voice whispered, causing my heart to stop. I turned on my heel towards my bed. "I'm running out of time."

"They won't fucking let me leave!" I sighed, exhausted and confused.

"You don't need their permission," he replied, before standing and walking swiftly towards me.

"I need your help, Gerard. I need you back," I told him, hugging myself.

"It's okay, Frank." He took my face in his hands, caressing my cheeks. He leaned forward, his lips just grazing mine before his eyes flickered towards the door behind me. I turned my head, my breathing stopping as I saw security guarding the exit. I was stuck. I turned back to face Gerard. He was gone.

Confused and shaken, I turned to look at security once more, seeing Rupert stood behind them, mouthing "I'm sorry," to me. I wiped my eyes and climbed back into bed, sobbing silently into the covers in front of my little audience.

You blew my mind. You blew Frank's mind too, in several different ways, that, surprisingly, are not dirty.
