Gerard POV

It hits me like a pile of bricks. "Ridley," I say immediately. She shot her head up to look at me. "Yeah?" she asks, looking over at Miss Wynman to make sure she isn't saying anything she's not allowed to. "Stay here for a minute after class." She nods. "Alright, Mr. Way." she looks nervous, much more nervous than she was when she entered the room.
And throughout the class, the other kids that were sent out slowly come back, one by one. All with some sort of injury they didn't have before. Some looked sad, some look in pain, and some just looked down right defeated. I could put a few pieces of the puzzle together, but I couldn't make any assumptions just yet.
When the next hour finally passes, I almost forget I asked to see Ridley. And she tries to blend in with the crowd walking out of the room. I'm not mad. I kinda understand what's it's like seeing a teacher after school. "Ridley." I say just as she's about to go through the door. She stops, dead in her tracks, and starts walking over to the desk. I'm pretty much as nervous, asking her to come over here as she is, actually coming over here. I haven't planned out anything to say, so I'm just gonna improvise.
She just stares down at her shoes. Not wanting to say a word, and I don't make her say anything, as she walks round the side. I look at her, and she looks back. Without saying a word, I pull up the long sleeves on her shirt up, revealing the bruises. There's more bruises than I think, and even some cuts. She takes a deep breath. Poor kid. I can't even imagine what's going through her head right now. "Nothing, I…I got hit by a bike this morning." she lies badly. She's not very good under pressure.
I raise an eyebrow at her but, she doesn't see me, she's too busy looking out a window, I inconspicuously follow her gaze and see Miss W standing on the other side of the door….just watching us. It's pretty clear to me now that she's just there to make sure that Ridley's keeping her mouth shut. Now, I don't know if every other teacher before me has figured out what that means by yet, or if they've gone through the same process as me, or whatever, but it's pretty clear we all know what's going on here, I just don't think Miss W knows that I know. Someone working here is abusing all these children.
