So Long and Goodnight

Blood is Thicker than Water

Gerard's POV

The next few days start out as normal. Everyone's silent. Even the outcasts. I'm slightly surprised, you wouldn't even be able to guess that someone had been brutally murdered the day before. But it's like they can see her as a ghost or something, and they continue like she's still there, like they're scared someone will bring them to be beaten, anyway.
"You know you guys can talk, right?" I say.
They look up as I speak, but then look down in unison, like they didn't even hear me. I walk over to Max. "What's up with everyone?"
He looks up at me from his work for a second. “It’s routine.” And he goes back to his work like everyone else.
I sigh and go back to my desk. Looking around at the students I realize that Katie isn’t there. Just as I notice her absence, she bursts through the door, looking pale and stumbling.
I walk over to her and she’s breathing heavily. I look at her for a second, and she collapses a little. I catch her and help her back up. “Whoa, Katie, what’s up with you?” I say, concern in my eyes.
“My parent’s haven’t been paying the bills lately, and the water company shut off our water a couple days ago. You said we shouldn’t take any from the school for our own good, so I’m not. You said it might be dangerous.”
I don’t have any water right now, and it might not be safe to drink the water here. The teachers could have put something in it.
“Couldn’t you ask one of the other outcasts to bring a water bottle in for you tomorrow?”
She nods. “I guess I could hang in there for one more day.” She nods and goes to her seat. I explain the project we’re doing to her and she continues on.
Things are starting to deteriorate.
**********
It’s the lunch hour, and all the outcasts are sitting together, only talking. They don’t take anything given to them, just like I told them to.
“Special, aren’t they?” I jump, hearing the icy voice from behind me. Mr H. turn around to face him.
“Yeah…” I say, not wanting to engage into conversation with this bastard. But for some reason we both end up walking over to the table. He goes over and pats each kid on the back.
“Hello, children.” He says, smiling broadly. Like the Cheshire Cat.
“Hello, Mr Holmon.” They mumble together.
“Well, Mr Way, I better go back to my office. Goodbye.”
I smile and wave as he walks off.
“Katie?” says Zepplin, looking at oddly. She’s looking at the untouched water pitcher on the table, a lust in her eyes.
I knew if anything drastic went on, nobody would move out of there routine to look at us or pay attention to what was happening.
“Katie…don’t.” says Max. They probably already know what happened, but in the next second, she lunges at the water pitcher. Zepplin is grabbing her wrists and pulling them behind her. And as dehydrated as is she fights like an animal, scratching, biting, punching, and kicking. But no one lets go. Everyone’s trying to pull her away from the water. Zepplin looks up at me. “Gee, take her wrists for a second.”
I do as he instructed and took her wrists, restraining her. “KATIE, STOP.” But she doesn’t, and she keeps struggling.
He dips the tip of his finger into the puddle of water on the table.
“It’s thick and cloudy. He added something to it.”
I would’ve thought this would’ve been the stopping point of her struggling, but she keeps going for it. And just as I predicted, nobody else bats an eye.
“I need this!” she screeches. “I could die!”
“You’re not gonna die, Katie!” says Ridley, holding her back, too. We drag her off of the table and into the halls. She tried digging her nails into the carpet, but it doesn’t do any good for her. We take her into room 25 and drag her into the closet, shutting and locking the door.
I take a quick look to make sure she’s safe from dying of co2 poisoning like the last one did in there, before turning to the rest of the kids.
“Guys, does anyone live around here?”
‘I do. Two minutes from here.’ Signs Lily.
“Go and bring a full water bottle back here, Lily. Just sneak out the back door of this room.”
She nods and goes outside, heading home for one.
“It’s gonna be okay, Katie.” I say through the door, she lifts here arm as an acknowledgement and sets it back down. I shut off the light for her, and now, we wait.

Finally Lily comes back with a water bottle and I open up the closet door. Katie’s sleeping. Max taps her on the shoulder and she jolts up, and sees the water, snatching it away in her hands and drying the large water bottle in a mere matter of seconds. She hands the bottle back to Lily, panting.
“Thank you.”
“You alright?” asks Zepplin.
She nods. “Yeah, I’m okay.”
One problem solved…
***********
It’s midnight, now. I’m at home by myself, watching TV.
I hear a knock at the door, and I wonder who would be at my door at midnight. I stand up and go to my door, opening it. It’s Ridley.
“Ridley? What are you doing here?”
I notice she’s holding an empty bottle of Jack.
“I have to do something tonight.”
“Are you drunk?”
“Come here you son of a bitch.” And she tackles me to the ground, pressing her lips to mine.

Notes

I'm just gonna warn everyone that the next chapter is gonna be pure fxcking smut.

Amazing story <3… but eh, so sad that Ridley had to die. Anyway, I vote for Hunger Games or vampires, and maybe you could include any other bands? Just wondering.
