So Long and Goodnight
Sticks and Stones
Gerard POV
The room is too quiet. It's my first day teaching, and the kids in front of my aren't even talking. The silence is like knives, as I'm wondering if I should break it and say something, I'm pretty sure I'm more nervous than the kids.
It wasn't silent all day though, earlier this morning, Miss Wynman took out a few kids when they coughed or made a sound. Miss Wynman. Ugh. Right now she's patrolling around the room like a police officer, her eyes are staring at everyone like little spies, and she walks over to my desk, fiddling with the pendant on her necklace.
"It's nice how quiet they are, isn't it?" she says to me, giving her signature smile. Really? Did she really just ask that? Is she not slightly disturbed with it? I am.
"Yeah." I lie, following it with a nervous chuckle and smile. I swear I saw her roll her eyes as she turned around, like she knew I was lying. She is a downright bitch. She's the teacher I would've wanted to slap when I was in school. But now I'm not in school, I'm on the other side. The teacher side.
God, I wish the talking kids were back. I remember their names though. Lily was one. She's mute, and when the teacher sent her out, she swore at her through sign language, non stop. Luckily the teacher didn't know very good sign language, so she didn't understand a word.
Then there was Katie. Poor Katie. She smiled and giggled to herself and before she knew it, she was teary eyed and a door was slammed right in her face.
Next came Max. He tossed a note to someone. At my old school, with what he was saying on the way out, he would have talked his way right out of trouble. But there's no getting out of trouble here.
After that it was Ridley. She was daydreaming and made a microscopic sigh, but she had to get straight on shoved out of that room, because she wouldn't walk out on her own.
And the last one there was Zepplin. Other than having the coolest name I've ever heard of, he was caught listening to music on a tiny single earbud he invented, which I find equally amazing. He walked out without any pushing, but he kept a cheeky smile on his face the entire time.
Just as I finish thinking, I hear the door open, and Ridley walks in, back from the principal's office. Her brown eyes are widened slightly, and I notice something that wasn't there before; the bruises peeking out from under her sleeves.
